How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Just got told that Hilton Sydney is going back to full breakfast at Glass for gold and diamond members from tomorrow!!
Looking good for my trip next month.

excellent - i'm there tomorrow night for a couple of nights

If you have been given the correct information, then that's great. As long as it didn't come from the front desk. ;)
I am in mid stay with them and was told earlier today by the front desk about this. Must've been a short timeframe between decision and putting it in action.

Great news for Diamonds :).
Why don't they offer continental for Golds which I think would be a great outcome?
Sounds fair but I don't think they are staffed to police this. Anyway I will try to bring it up with the right people when I get a chance to.;)

we could do a mini AFF get together if you are willing to host a guest and I'll host the other?
If I didn't have an 8am start tomorrow, I could have joined you for breakfast :)

8am start? Talk about the lap of luxury. I have to be up at OMG O'clock for a 7am departure out of BNE! I have an 11am appointment at Port Douglas, (which I'm hoping is somewhat warmer than here right now) and I also hope to be back relaxing at Mondos at the Hilton before they finish serving lunch!!

I'm staying at BNE right now. Asked about breakfast and was told i/we can have it in the lounge or in the restaurant as a Diamond benefit. Will report more about the hotel after my stay but so far very impressed with my first BNE stay.

Should have mentioned you were in town, I am only 10 minutes away.

Not a great start. Air conditioner is faulty and sounds like a siren going off all night. The rooms don't have proper blinds/curtains either, meaning its light in the room at 5am.

Forgive the asking of a stupid question, but are you closing the block-out shoji screens? They do a pretty good job in my experience of keeping the light out.

Believe me, I spent about half an hour trying to work out he best configuration to block out light using the 6 shoji screens. And this morning the room next door had their alarm clock going for about twenty minutes at 6am. Not having a good run of luck!

On the plus side, went to the executive lounge last night and was invited to another vip room on the other side of the building to watch the Tokyo sunset. Was excellent!

I wonder if they had a noticeable drop off in bookings? I wouldn't imagine so, but you never know.

Its hard to know how many of the daily bookings would be status holders and of those status holders who are cognizant of the program in detail (as opposed to 'oh look I'm gold/diamond...wonder what that means).

Something real must have caused the backflip though - either a revenue drop that management could immediately attribute to their previous decision, or perhaps a spanking from HH USA for causing a rise in complaints or some such.

For me, for the SYD property in particular, it was the last straw - tiny rooms, coffee charge, essentially no breakfast (I'm okay with continental, but EL breakies are laughable!) - I've already booked a bunch of overseas IHG which should see me gold with them by end of august and was going to look seriously at the quality of IHG properties in SYD

HSYD has been pretty full in the past few weeks, I can't get a room for below $500 next week and can't justify paying that either so will have to look elsewhere. Breakfast this morning, they tried to charge me $42 for a colleague who joined me. Will know if there's an actual charge when I check out. The ushers were a bit flustered with the revised rule.

Will make me reconsider HSYD as somewhere to stay. I haven't been in a Hilton that only gives lounge breakfast to Diamonds, especially in a major city, so I had taken it off the 'potentials' list. With Accor plat and SPG gold there are always other options.

I'm in exactly the same position as you.
Great decision by HSYD.
Bit unfortunate for Gold but based on the massive queues I experienced on more than one occasion whilst trying (and failing) to have breakfast at Glass on the weekends prior to them stopping this benefit, I'd say it's being based on capacity.

First it was the breakfast at Glass and now this re-appeared at EL after disappearing for a L O N G time:D

So they're back. :)

Much better than the "marinara" that they slid in.

There may still be hope for the return of the oysters, but the prawns will do me.
