How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I had some brewed coffee with milk and some raisin toast. Not much else worth having and i normally only eat a light breakfast anyway. It is the attitude that gets me and why I minimise my stays there.

Just sounds so much more attractive than HSW. No lounge. Coffee tax, great views, attentive staff. Really

In all fairness MDT used to be better. It started going downhill after introducing the new room categories.
Having said that it's sometimes half price from HSW and even the basic windowless rooms are not too bad.

Still not selling it to me. The groups comments are largely negative re MDT. HSWis definitely not up to the high standards it set when it first opened but the lounge does add a few bonus points to the booking experience

Booked 5 nights there next year (using points). Read online about the option to pay $100/night for Napua Tower upgrade. Wasn't sure if it worth the money but considering diamonds don't get complementary breakfast at WA properties and your positive review of the lounge it looks like reasonable value.
Just be careful. There is a difference between Napua Tower room and a Napua Tower Club room. Napua tower is a 9 story building and the Napua Tower Club rooms and EL occupy the top 2 floors. Access to the top floors is by key access only. Napua Tower rooms don't get access to the EL lounge. FYI resort charge is $30pn and valet is also $30. a bottle of local beer in the bar is $6.50 and a glass of chardy is $12.00 so prices aren't that ridiculous.

Thanks, I'll make sure to get the correct room type with lounge access, hopefully upgrades will be available at reasonable price. The $30 valet (plus $2 tip each time using the car) is annoying because there is no way to avoid if renting a car, from what I read there are no overnight self parking options near by.

"The shops at Wailea" is a shopping centre next door to the Grand Wailea. Due to the size of the Grand it would be about a 10 minute walk away. Its so easy to use the valet and it only takes 2 - 3 minutes for them to retrieve the car. Remember if you were staying at the H-BNE the parking fee is $58 so we can't really grumble too much

I'm happy to leave the car and walk 10 minutes to save $30 but read it's not safe to park there overnight. The advantage of staying in one of the Kaanapali resorts (compared to Wailea) is that you can return the car and pick up again the next day ;)
Btw, you can also do that when staying in HBNE. Most major car rental companies are located near by.

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....rs/the-insidious-hilton-coffee-tax-72411.html

As of last week Hilton Darwin has installed an "all-in-one" type coffee machine in the restaurant (to complement the one in the lounge).

Now espresso coffees cost for all guests including Diamond members, and appear to only be available in the restaurant.

The "associate" comped my coffee today as I didn't know, but indicated he would start charging from tomorrow.

I think I will write to the GM tonight.

Coffee Tax now at Hilton DRW :( :( :( :( :(

Property: Hilton ADL
Status: Diamond
Date: Recently, 3 nights
Booked: King Hilton Deluxe

Comments: Good value especially as I will be refunded the cost of my stay by a third party.
Only downside was the coffee tax.

I wonder if they cleared it with straitman if they could let someone else use his room?

Doing a quick status run to HKG vie SIN this week.

Hilton Singapore
In 1 October 1 night
S$292++ Senior Rate
Gold

The Digital Key was a waste of time. Managed to operate the lift and the room but took longer to set-up and operate than a key card. No upgrade offered (that I noticed). Maybe a higher floor. Given option of a free breakfast or 1000 points bonus. Took the points as many cheap options available on Orchard Road. A very ordinary Hilton that is so busy that it does not have to try. The most US like Hilton in terms of ambience and service that I have used in Asia. Only benefits were water and some chocolates (that I assumed were free and not part of the minibar).

Conrad HKG
2 nights
Expensive due to China holiday week - different rate for the two days - cheaper for Sunday than Monday.
Gold

The welcome could not have been different even though it was busy at checkin. They found me a King room even though none showing on App Check In. Gave me Executive Room access as only a back (mountain view) room available. Two water and fruit in room already as well as standard Conrad 'gifts'. They now offer a choice of 4 types of amenities that they will swap out on request. The Lounge was very busy as usual and the evening canapes end early at 1900.

More later in the week.

I might say that the Double Tree in CNS has looked after me again. This is now the third stay in a row that they have given me an upgrade to a 6th floor (HH Floor) room looking straight out onto the water. Card from the manager and vouchers for nibbles at the bar and two drinks (1 x alcoholic and 1 x non-alcoholic). This time they did forget to offer me my gift (usually the two comp waters and a chocolate) and DT cookie (and to be honest, I was tied anyway and didn't even notice until about 4am when I wanted a drink of water), but I'm sure if I asked they would have been forthcoming. Breakfast is OK. Nothing to crow about, but it does the job. I might say though, that they do need an additional coffee machine. Whilst charging for barista coffee has become the norm in Oz, at least in CNS both Hilton and DT have the included coffee machine however at DT for the last two times there was a longish queue and the machine needed servicing on both times (running out of coffee, milk etc). Apart from that, they've been doing well and the taxi to the airport is $5 cheaper than Hilton ;).

At HSW and just been told that $3 coffee tax now applicable to Diamond members due to policy change effective 1st October.

No coffee tax for me this morning. Maybe some staff members weren't updated with the new policy yet.

Btw Flyer777, if you also stay tonight come say hello and I'll shout you a beer in the executive lounge :p

Hate to say this but it's bound to happen sooner or later as HSW is (was?) last on the frontier for no coffee tax. At least it's $3 and not $5 like the other HH. Wonder if it's still $3 for their large bowl of coffee. Boomy, glad you manage to avoid the tax. Must find a familiar face at breakfast next trip and test if I can escape the tax too.

I should really get off my backside and write to Hilton, but I fear the tax may be here to stay.

Hilton Adelaide
Diamond
Rate: $169
Room: base room
Received: Executive room on 17th (second highest) floor

Quite an old fashioned hotel but I guess most of Adelaide appears to be that way (no offence to the residents of ADL). Breakfast in the restaurant was quite good with coffee tax imposed if wanted it but executive lounge seemed small and again quite old fashioned. Would only stay here again on a cheap rate.

Hilton Sydney
Diamond
Date: Monday 3rd October 1 night
Booked: Guestroom Plus
Rate: $213
Received: Relaxation Room

This was a nice stay with the room ready in the morning, a half bottle of red that usually comes in the deluxe plus room and 2 bottles of mineral water plus the 2 mount franklin bottles.

I did enquire how many diamonds stay on average a night and was surprised to find it was around 40. I did not ask how many golds but gathered it was a lot. I unfortunately forgot to ask if this had increased since the status matches.
