How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Property: Hilton LAX Airport
Booked: Standard King Room
Received: Exec Suite room overlooking runway (which made hubby happy).

Asked for/Received 6pm check out (flying out at 9.50pm).

Checkin was busy and we used the Diamond counter and a staff member moved from her desk to serve us, leaving the other checkin counter people who were there before us waiting. 2 bottles of water were waiting for us in our room.

The lounge is teeny tiny and crowded. Seated about 20 people but there had to have been at least 40-50 in the room. So crowded that we preferred to pay for breakfast the next morning downstairs BUT, the evening canapes were lobster stuffed potato and bbq pork - sooo good.

Very impressed with HSYD this trip. Not only did they grant my preferred room, I received an email the next morning offering to further upgrade to the king suite for the next night! Found out they were completely sold out. Anyway, I missed the email and was already quite settled in the original room but thanked them regardless for their super generous gesture. That coupled with my first encounter with the creme brûlée made this stay quite unforgettable. Also, Hsyd is trialling the sms service asking for rating of your stay so far, and whether they could do anything further, etc.

Onwards to HSW, I see that Yarra Suite already preassigned. Yay!

Hilton colombo
Standard king one night
Diamond

upgrade to exec floor but seeing as i arrived at midnight and left at 0630 a bit irrelevant

Hilton colombo
Corner suite 3 nights
Diamond

I stay here about 10-12 nights a year in suites and have done so for about 7 years

warning DYKWIA moment approaching

"Welcome back sir "
Much tapping on computer
"You've checked in online to room 1325 "
Yes i have i like that view much better than teh other suites i book when you give me port views
much tapping on computer
"theres still someone in your room"
Thats ok its 1 o'clock , when will they be checking out
much tapping on computer
"we can give you a temporary room"
Will it be with the same view
much tapping
Ill be over in the bar with shrek ( who got a legitimate suite upgrade for the first time in teh 5 years we've been coming to sri lanka staying here ). Can you bring my key over
"Yes sir" we will take your luggage up
still no room key so i billed lunch to Shreks room
Back to the desk
Here is your temporary room sir ( a suite but a lower floor)

up to the room , its a standard suite , get some work done for an hour or so then back down
"we will get your room sorted for you while you're out"

Come back 1900
"The person is still in your room sir " we will be able to tell you more later

Back to the room , no luggage and missing one of 2 tv's( first world problem i know)

off to the exec lounge that has been moved due to the 100 strong chinese delegation taking over the top 3 floors

On way out to dinner
The man at the desk is getting increasingly agitated every time i approach
"we will be able to tell you more at 8am tomorrow sir"
BTW could you take those 2 bags over there up to my room which i assume is my temporary room
Absolute look of panic as he realises that my bags are still there

BTW can you put another tV in and theres no diamond amenities in there( first time here that it hasn't happened) and the bar doesn't have any beer in it

Tv has arrived
beer hasn't

On way back in today

Did my room get changed to the one i checked in to?

much tapping of computer

"Mmmm no sir "

go back to room
the beer bottle i got from room service is still sitting here ( empty )

Pity
i usually get really good service here
The feedback that i will give the lady who hovers around checkout for when people check out asking for feedback should be interesting!
Im sure they will blame it on the chinese but i am probably over annoyed that choosing a specific online check in room for the view did not get me the room id checked into along with some major service fails

I feel better now :)
off to the exec lounge for a beer

I'm more wondering who they extend late checkout to past 1900

Me, for a start!

I've posted previously about a fabulous check out experience there, where we booked an additional night just to ensure we had use of the room until the OMG o'clock flight. We checked out 7/8/9 pm(ish, sorry can't actually recall exact checkout time, but it was after 7pm) and the man at the desk had a very perplexed look on his face. He asked if the room was not to our liking and I replied "oh no, it was fine, we just have a flight to catch". He asked us to wait a minute and he disappeared out the back for a brief moment and then returned to say he would remove the last night charge as that was our "diamond, late check out benefit"! I was surprised and happy. I neither asked for, nor expected that TBH.

Great service as always and Exec Lounge staff are amazing.

HSYD-most expensive I've seen to date for Sun. Who would pay almost $800 for the guest room plus?! I couldn't, so chose Sofitel instead for $219.

I was able to book Sydney a few days ago for $227 for tonight (sunday). There are a few big group bookings including westpac taking up most rooms. Lounge is quiet though.

Yes, it shot up from $269 on Fri morning to $783 in a matter of hours. I thought it was a system error, rang them and was informed the rates were correct. Oh well, their loss. If I knew you were there tonight, I could've invited you over to the Sofitel Club which is a nice change from HSYD's lounge. Anyway it's concluding at 7:30pm, maybe next time.

Are you a Diamond or a Gold? I'm thinking about whether to go to Marriott or Hilton in BNE (both gold), rate is similar. Any ideas?

I'm a Diamond. When i was Gold I never received the same benefits at the Hilton. The Hilton Brisbane is very dated now and without those benefits maybe i would try elsewhere.

Conrad Hong Kong 4 nights

diamond

2 rooms - different rates( sale, points, free night etc)...really have no idea what I booked but received side by side exec floor rooms

amazing staff...especially Ken in the lounge..daughter arrived early - got breakfast and stayed in lounge, went to pool, until room ready around lunch time. Afternoon tea and drinks until we arrived ( after canapés)...but there was a cold bottle of bubbles waiting for us in the lounge... similar experience a couple of nights later..beer and wine kept flowing after other guests had left the lounge..ended up having room service meals in the lounge...excellent stay

MTR so handy- just downstairs through the shopping mall.

and the rubber ducks had jerseys on as the rugby 7s were starting.

HSYD was fully booked on Saturday so maybe the occupancy was still quite high for Sunday.
Yeah, you're probably right. Since the property's been bought over by the Chinese owners, I also noticed more bus loads of Chinese tourists stopping at HSYD which would increase the occupancy as well. Front desk told me they were operating on full or near full for a few months now. However, to charge $783 for a guestroom plus (not even exec room) is simply madness in my view.

I booked thursday night and watched the price go up instead of down as I hoped to snag a cheaper rate. I have noticed lately the price tends to drop in the evening unlike previously which was mid morning. After seeing the price I accepted I may not get an upgrade but sunday morning the usual relax. room was showing.

As I mentioned the lounge was quiet and as chocolate is the ingredient of the month one of the lounge staff had time to organise a chocolate inspired coctail. Unfortunatley I consumed almost half of it in one go before I thought to take a photo. Some of the staff really go above and beyond and will have to leave feedback next time now that I have realised it is on the app.

Property: Hilton Paris - Opera
Booked: Queen Deluxe Room
Received: Queen Executive Suite

Let's start with the positives: Beautiful building, fantastic location and generous two level upgrade.

Now the negatives: suite was very small. I can only imagine how tiny standard rooms must be. Bathroom had one sink, toilet and shower all cramped in tiny space (no bathtub). Amenities were very basic, no bathrobe, no slippers, no shoeshine kit. Didn't mind because I got free upgrade but if I was paying for it - €734 (the suite cost that night) I would not be happy.

Executive lounge was also very small and so busy that at some point staff had to open the door connecting to restaurant to allow people find more seats. Canapés were ok but long queues to get them made the whole lounge experience very underwhelming.

Breakfast at restaurant was very basic. No eggs cook to order, no barista coffee. The place was, surprise surprise, too small and decor looked cheap, more like temporary setting. They should move the breakfast to the more spacious and elegant restaurant in the lobby area.

In conclusion, upgrades aside, this property is not on par with acceptable Hilton standards, even in Europe.

Property: Hilton Paris - La Defence
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: King Deluxe Plus

No junior or full size suites available on the dates I've stayed so limited upgrade was fair enough. Location was better than I thought, although outside the city, it's at the end (or beginning) of Paris metro line 1 (that goes through all major tourist sites). The metro station located underneath the hotel and travel time to Champs Élysées is just 10 min (train leaves every 3 min).

This Hilton is quite basic, modern style, large rooms but not much character. No executive lounge, instead got two drink vouchers at the bar and two bottles of Evian water. Breakfast selection was not bad with eggs and crepes cooked to order. All staff members were very nice and spoke good English.

In conclusion, decent hotel, considering most 4* hotels in Paris are cough this one at least was good value < €200 per night.

Thanks boomy. I'm there in September for 6 nights in a King Superior at 180 euros per night so it seems a good deal.
