How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I had a good chat with Tim (who is leaving at the end of this week). Hilton now have the 14th floor and are deliberating between more rooms, or an exec lounge. They are very aware of HSW closing (in effect) so I didn't have to state the case for an Exec lounge too strongly.

Personally I've always said this would be a big lure for me. I'm a hotel lounge fiend and tend not to stay at hotels which don't have them - though I have been to DT MEL a couple of times.

However, there has been whispers of a lounge on one of the top floors since the hotel opened and I fear that the good occupancy the hotel has obviously enjoyed since opening (I'm basing that upon their rack rate which sometimes surpasses the HSW) might dissuade them of the relevancy of further investment to lure customers. Now that they are the only Hilton in town it seems to me even less likely. Status holders will now, to a large degree, move to this hotel and I'm expecting a price increase across the board, due to yield management and I don't know that a lounge will further increase the likelihood of status holders, or others, staying at the hotel.

I hope it pulls off, I really do. If so, it would really help to take the sting out of losing the HSW

Also seen a DA has gone in for 201-217 Elizabeth St Sydney, replacing the existing tower with a hotel podium and tower.

On Hyde Park, would make a great location for a Sydney Conrad imho

Only a few hours into our first Conrad Macau stay...totally blown away

diamond

booked exec room with points and pay.
received king suite with city views

staff unbelievable..Kumi the duty manager walked us thru check in and showed us around the complex and then showed us our 'room' absolutely huge. Love the room.
been to the lounge and it was unbelievable. Staff have you sitting at your table with cutlery etc and are happy to serve you food and drinks .. very good selection of wines. And great food.

not expecting to be disappointed by breakfast in the morning...will update but this would be our best ever Hilton experience already.

I've been there in Jan. I was also upgraded to a King suite as a gold, and was also walked to the suite. The lounge was great during evening hours (albeit the somewhat strict serving hours), service could have been better (most likely due to my partner and I were in our early 20s and we're Asians, still there was one of the staff there who was extremely nice to us). Breakfast at lounge was relatively disappointing in terms of variety of food served, but quality of food was superb. The noodles bar and lobster congee was so great that made me totally regretting spending only a night at the Conrad after moving from the neighbouring-not-so-great Sheraton.

Property: Conrad SIN
Date: end March 2017
Status: Gold
Booked: Executive King
Received: Executive King with Lounge access

Received normal benefits and Lounge access. Was promised a free bottle of wine (given that there was no upgrade available) - this did not arrive but managed to negotiate this service fail for a free 1800 late Check Out - a real benefit given the Hotel was at 100% due to convention next door at Suntec City. This hotel has been reviewed many times, including by me in the past. It could do with a renovation and often the Lounge is overflowing but, on this visit, we were able to sit in the main room on all occasions. The Lounge staff were efficient and always pleasant.

Property: Hilton Milan
Date: April 2017
Status: Gold
Booked: Pre-Paid King Standard
Received: Standard King but with Lounge access

This property was a real surprise. It is easy luggage pulling distance from the impressive Mussolini inspired Centrale Station and 30 mins walk or an easy tram ride to the centre of town. We accepted a standard low floor for an early check in. I will always take an early room access for an upgrade. Lounge Access was a bonus as a Gold on a cheap rate. Water, chocolates and bath robes arrived within minutes of arriving in the room. The highlight was the Lounge that had keypass access and so was never busy. At the back of the hotel so not much atmosphere but there was a big range of excellent snacks in the evening with the hot options being replenished as soon as they ran low. A good selection of beer and wine too. The breakfast was equally impressive and again, not busy. I would recommend for a short stay - we were only there a day between Tuscany and Switzerland.

Property: Hilton Carlton, Edinburgh
Date: April 2017 (Now)
Status: Gold
Booked: King Standard - 2 nights for 80K points
Received: King Standard

Could not be more central - 5 mins from the station but make sure you check the route across North Bridge rather than coming out the logical exit that puts you at the bottom of a long hill below the hotel.

Had a short discussion about availability of a continental breakfast as a Gold while checking in. Did not expect an upgrade or lounge access but was expecting breakfast for less than 17 pounds each. The agent told me it was not a benefit as they were a Hilton 'franchise' so not needing to provide any benefits. When I asked to have that in writing, she did refer to the Manager who, once she knew I was not expecting Lounge access did confirm the benefit. Let's see if we get it on Check Out.

The standard room, on the top floor, had not much of a view but was very modern (for such an old building) and had standard gold benefits when we arrived. No fridge or minibar though.

Conrad Macau update. No coffee tax. Huge selection of food in the lounge with our own chef doing omelettes , eggs whatever way, fish balls etc etc. very attentive staff..and coffee is really good.

forgot to mention I have my Conrad bear and our rubber Duckie is actually a little black duck in honour of the Conrad being open 5y this month

must learn how to post photos

HSW
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: 2 bedroom suite
Relaxation suite on lower floor allocated on olci, moved to 2 bedroom suite when I mentioned lower floor could be a bit noisy. Milestone stay, treated extremely well to the extent I was feeling a bit guilty.

Spoke to Craig, the GM who will be staying on post Hilton which the staff are really happy about as he is very well liked. He is also happy to come in to meet us if we are still keen on doing a last hurrah for HSW but it will have to be the weekend of 20th rather than last weekend as they will be too busy with the transition to P.Pacific.

I love the Conrad Macau - the decor is really plush.
Does your duckie look like this or different?

I got this last year but forgot what occasion that was for.

sorry Aeolus. It won't let me open the attachment. Just your standard rubber Duckie but black and wording is '5th Anniversary CONRAD MACAO COTAI CENTRAL' and I presume the equivalent in Chinese.

also forgot to mention the InFocus fee free phone that comes with the room. Own VPN with exceptional fast WiFi (dare I say much faster than NBN) can link 10 devices - we were using 5 without any slowing of download speed.

Achin in the lounge is delightful

Property: Hilton Frankfurt Airport
Date: Apr 2017
Status: Diamond
Booked: 2 x Queen Hilton Guest Rooms (interconnecting) - room only
Received: King Deluxe Suite with separate living room + King Deluxe room - Lounge Access - free breakfast

This is a really nice hotel. I was with my wife and kids. We have previously stayed at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport a few times, where we have booked a family room. It's not a particularly nice hotel, and very expensive (EUR300+ per night for a family room). The Hilton, in contrast, is much nicer and just like the Sheraton it's also located right at the airport - i.e. you can walk from the terminals. I only paid EUR193 in total for these two rooms (they gave a 50% discount on the second room - this wasn't advertised but I emailed them to ask if they had any rooms that could accommodate all 4 of us, and they offered that deal to me). Very happy indeed with what I got for my money, and I would definitely choose this hotel again if staying at FRA.

The 50% discount for a second room for the kids has been around for awhile but would be good if there was a list of which hotels offer it. But it is one of those benefits that is not advertised and not all hotels offer it. It does need to be booked with the hotels reservations department and for those with kids would work out cheaper than a suite.

Slightly OT but anyone know what's on in Melbourne 25th May. Just tried to make a booking at HSW but I don't want to sell my house to do it?

We're back on the 29th and that's all normal.

PAX Australia is on around 27-29 so that could be one of the reasons why I think

Nice lot of points for an over-lapping stay this week.
