How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Sydney Hilton:
Status: Gold
Booked basic Hilton Guest Room
Received King Executive with full Exec Lounge benefits

Status: HH Gold
Property: Doubletree by Hilton Sheffield Park
Rate: £63/night
Booked: Twin Hilton Guestroom
Upgraded: Twin Hilton Deluxe, Queen Hilton Deluxe
Received: Letter from the Front of House Manager, breakfast in Glass Brasserie, 2 bottle of waters, fruit platter & the standard welcome cookie.

This was an interesting one where-by upon check-in I was asked whether I knew I had twin beds booked. I advised yes, because that was the best rate! Anyway, was told I had an upgrade to a deluxe twin room. I mentioned that if there was a double, then hey, I guess I'd be happy with that! Anyway a few taps and bingo, here you go.

Anyway as she was sorting out that for me, I mentioned the observations I had over my stays over the past few weeks. 1) was told my room was upgraded to a Deluxe however there were no bathrobes / slippers, but I did get a fruit platter 2) 2nd weekly visit no upgrade however I did have a bathrobe/slippers, but no fruit platter.

We both agreed that was odd and she said she would check my upgraded room for a fruit platter and if it was there she'd bring it across. Anyway soon after I got a call saying no fruit platter in there however she would get the kitchen to arrange something for me. Now that's service! So I'm in the new room now and it's got 2 bathrobes/slippers and all the same amenities as the other 2 rooms I've had over the past few weeks however this one has a proper bath soap and separate face soap rather than just the 'face soap'. Interesting to see such variation....... interesting also that after being here 3 weeks in a row, I finally get a letter from the Front of House Manager!

And great to see you in that Exec Lounge, NM!

Here's my stay for the same night:

Status: HH Diamond
Property: Hilton Sydney
Date: 15-16 July 2012
Rate: $171.75 (less 20%), Great Getaway Rate.
Booked: Twin Hilton Guestroom, 1 person (plus Spouse Stays Free)
Upgraded: King Relaxation Room
Received: Non-personalised card from GM, breakfast for 2 in Glass Brasserie, 2 bottles of water, box of biscuits, executive lounge benefits (with the added bonus of seeing NM!), and late checkout to 2pm without any issues along with allowing me to stay until 4pm in the Executive Lounge. I even toddled off to BodyPump at the Living Well gym this morning and had a dip in the pool afterwards.

Second stay in the Sydney Hilton this week, and still loving every bit of it. I think Tomiko in the Executive Lounge was a bit mystified as to why I was coming and going, checking in twice in three days!

I usually deal with this on the booking engine - if the Twin is cheaper, but I don't really want it, you can book the Twin room, and in the confirmation page there's an option "the room I wanted was not available" and in that you can signify that you actually would prefer a King. It has worked for me when I've needed to use it.

Hilton South Wharf
HHonors Diamond
Booked Hilton king guest
Got king Yarra suite (all that extra 17m2 is mine alllllll mine!!!!!)
One bottle of water
No personalized note

I think the lack of note might be because I have two separate bookings that they merged into one booking when I checked in.

You find the extra space is consolidated at a sort of unusable area with an angle and a electric light that looks like it was made for a giant desk ... cavort and enjoy! :p

I like the property, although the food is a bit so so the setting makes up for it. Prefer seaside room than exec with plunge pool on the side of the mountain (ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1342616390.092960.jpgexcept in the case of a sunarmi

Kudos to Janae on the Magic line. She came up and fixed the TV unit, brought an extension cord and brought me back a beer! Lovely young lady who was very personal, lovely personality and went the extra yard

Had no idea until today that the Hilton App showed the confirmations - so I can see the upgrades given in advance :D

So I can already see my next 2 nights upgrades, but I'll keep you in suspense.

It does that on the websites as well. It seems variable - Melbourne hotels seem to process upgrades in advance, the Sydney Hilton doesn't process it on the reservation until about 2 or 3pm.

Didn't want to start a new thread. Do Hilton hotels in Australia allow the charging of restaurant bills to the room, when the restaurant is separately owned/managed? I'm thinking of Hanuman in Cairns and, I believe, Glass in Sydney. My real question is do these charges earn base and bonus points?

AFAICT I think Glass in Sydney allows charge to room; not sure about Hanuman.

At least for me, I managed to charge a lunch at Glass to my account in Sydney last October. Also managed to use a HMCC Member for a Stay pass to knock off 20% (this last bit probably wasn't kosher, but the charge to room bit seems OK).

If you can charge these to your room, I'd imagine these will earn base points and bonus points as normal. Again, this is my experience.

You can charge Hanuman to your Hilton Cairns room, and you will earn HHonors points on it (I did, anyway). But you will NOT get the 20% Hilton Macquarie discount if you have it, as it is a 3rd party owned property.

HSW 20th-22nd July
Booked King Yarra Suite Govt Rate
Received King Yarra Suite
Advised at check-in we had been upgraded to KYS
Apparently no upgrades available as fully booked ( despite 2 bed suites being available to book on-line)
Personalized welcome letter in room, one bottle of water.
If nothing else at least the HSW is consistent for me ie. I consistently receive the room category booked

Two recent stays:

First at HSW - 12-13 July. Booked Exec Room, received Exec Room but was also told it was an upgrade - pretty poor. But was allowed full breakfast and everything else was great (though the Exec lounge seemed a bit stingy on the alcohol).

Then Hilton Cairns 14 July, booked standard room but upgraded to Deluxe room, free full breakfast and a small gift of chocolate in the room. Was a quick visit only but all good.

HH Gold, by the way
