How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

He also got the Suite upgrade - which I had lost (I had seen on my HH account the day before that I'd been upgraded to a Yarra Suite but the next day is showed King Exec). I expect that they were either able to sell it, or a Diamond gazumped me.

That has happened to me too at HSW and I'm sure one or two other places over the years. Frankly, I'd rather not know that I had been de-upgraded.

Status: HH Gold
Dates: July 15-17 (3nights)
Property DoubleTree Irvine Spectrum, Irvine CA
Booked 1 King Deluxe, Hilton MVP programme US$95.20+ Tax pn
Recieved: Room on top floor, free wifi access, free buffet breakfast * 3

This is interesting - including the bits about how they say "welcome to Hilton xx_" or "welcome back to the Hilton xx_". When I joined HHonors and was status matched to Gold then given a 21 night/90 day Diamond Challenge, I thought it was odd that the first hotel I stayed at (Doubletree Dallas Market Centre) said "Welcome back to the Doubletree Mr Beardoc" - same thing happened at Hilton Anatole Dallas, Doubletree DFW, Hilton Miami, Hilton SF Union Square.... everyone kept on saying "welcome back to the Hilton xx_". I always thought it was odd. It happens everywhere.

I noticed that the first time I stayed at the DoubleTree Sheffield Park. "Welcome back Mr X". Oh, ok ... hadn't been there before though! Then.. the 2 weeks following I was there, I didn't get a welcome back! No sense ;)

The only problem we had was this weird sound in the room.At first we thought it was the lifts, but ut stopped as soon as we opened thedoor. The front desk staaf told us it was the wind whistling under the doorand the best way to stop it was to put atowel on the floor. First time I”ve ever come across something like that in aHotel.

Mmm, yes, I complained about this back in February and was told at the time they were looking into it. Disappointing to see its still a problem. I found it quite loud, not something easily ignored with other background noise. Others here have noticed it as well and have various ways of trying to stop the noise, I think opening the window and turning off air-conditioning has been suggested but I won't get another chance to test the theory until late August.

How do you obtain the free night certificates?

Hilton have quarterly promotions of one free night certificate per 4-5 stays. It leads to a lot of gaming the system with one night stays. I'm hoping they will do this for Q4.

Do you have to sign up for that?

I have the following stays this year:

Code:
	Q1	Q2	Q3
HSW	1	3	1
HOTP	3	4	-
JED 1
Oth. 2	3

That was "Last" year's Q4 promotion - i.e. from Oct to Dec 2011:

http://www.hhonors.com/fastways

With Hilton HHonors™, you choose how you earn with Fast Ways to Free Stays. It’s your choice – earn Double Points for each stay or get a free night certificate after only four stays or ten nights when you stay now through December 31 [2011] at any participating hotel and resort worldwide. With two ways to earn, you choose how you can get to experiences worth sharing faster than ever.
"This" Year's Q4 promotion has not been advertised - and may be different - I'd expect to find out around the beginning of October.
