How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

An old hotel I guess. Our one and only stay at Hilton Sydney saw us receive an upgrade to a "larger" corner room (with our choice of Pitt St view or George St view). The room was nice, but if that was a "larger" room, I'd hate to see the smaller ones........broom cupboard perhaps?

Yes, I've stayed in the smaller ones at SYD ... they are the smallest Hilton rooms I've ever been in (note: I've not been to Paris yet ...). The bathroom is so small you have to be careful not to bump into things even if you're the only one in there.

Service and location though ... hard to beat.

I just spent last week in the Auckland Hilton (the one on the wharf that looks a bit like a cruise ship).
As a Hilton Gold,
  • I was upgraded from the standard to the "Harbour View Room" on the 6th floor (2nd from top)
  • 2 x bottles water every day
  • 2 x drinks vouchers per night (10 for 5 nights - up front!)
  • offer of newspaper
  • chocolates every night with turndown service
  • 1000 point voucher if you ate in the hotel
  • free breakfast (for 2 I think)
  • free WiFi

Property: Hilton LHR T4
Rate: GBP222.00. Great Getaway Rate
Booked: Queen Executive Room
Received: Queen Executive Room + 750 ML Bottle of Water

The shampoo/conditioner (Not overly valid for me!
:p) and other amenities were the standard UK minuscule size.

I also received loud Americans in the Exec Lounge although I suspect they were not specifically laid on for me.

(The exec room was my cheapest and for that matter only real option at time of booking.)

Wow that is expensive for LHR......Olympics related?? When I looked at booking it was £160 a night, but chose to stay at T5 Sofitel which was super close for getting in and out of T5 terminal (£120).

Booked: Hilton Guest room
Upgraded: Hilton Executive room (on Level 41). View of Town Hall and Pitt Street.
Received: Free WiFi (which worked brilliantly)/Breakfast in glass brasserie/late check out until 1PM/a small bottle of water and an apple. Offered a newspaper but didn't receive it.
Comments: I was very happy to receive what I did. My status was gifted, so anything was appreciated. The room was great for a night, glass is a great restaurant but I wasn't really hungry. I would have had access to the Executive Lounge if they 'hadn't reached capacity for Gold members' on that night.

Wait.. So even if you have an Executive room your access is subject to capacity limits based on status? I wouldn't be happy with that at all.

I hope they provided an alternative.

Executive lounge benefits, Large fruit platter, two 500ml bottles of San Pellegrino water on ice in the room, a very nice note from the GM and all the usual freebies (Wi-Fi for 5 devices!), late checkout to 3pm offered when requested without problem.

Initially I was a bit disappointed that I hadn't been upgraded to a suite (I have been a little bit spoilt with suite upgrades at HSW and SYD recently). But this is a lovely hotel, and a very competent service. Executive lounge does feel a little bit odd and it really needs a Nespresso machine on par with Sydney and HSW, but I enjoyed my time here very much.

+1. Another reason not to stay there unless I score my $99 night.

That's rubbish and very worthy of a complaint both to the property and HHonors. The T&Cs clearly state that you'll be afforded lounge access if upgraded to an Executive Lounge room.

It's easy for them to fix within the rules though.

Don't give Gold an Executive Floor upgrade. The problem then ceases to be a problem!

BNEFlyer, given you didn't get lounge access, what did you get from your ugprade? My understanding of the Hilton Sydney is that an Executive Floor room is the same as a run-of-the-mill room, except it's on a higher floor. So, take out the lounge access, what exactly was the upgrade?
