How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Well... I hit 50th at Hilton LQS this week and got a $100 dining voucher. Problem was it was only valid for two days, with both days the restaurant closed for dinner...
Did you point that out to them or was it 🤷‍♀️

DoubleTree Wellington
Booked: QUEEN GUEST ROOM
When online check-in opened there had been no upgrade. A KING SUPERIOR was available for a fee. I took it.
Received: KING SUPERIOR
Status: Diamond

This was the worst Diamond check-in experience I have ever had.

There was no Diamond recognition.

Absolutely nothing.

I was told, quite bluntly, “You are in room xx_” and handed a blue key-card wallet and the DT cookie.

I then stated that I was Diamond and asked what a Diamond might get.

The answer was “full breakfast” but no further details were provided. I still don’t know the hours. The info in the room was only about room service. Of course, I can call reception or Google it, but it would be nice to be pre-informed at check-in.

I asked : “I don’t even get a Diamond colour key-wallet?”

“We don’t do that here”.

I asked about a possible room upgrade:

“Sorry, no”.

There were no drinks vouchers offered like before when I have stayed here as a Diamond.

While I wouldn’t go as far to say the check-in experience was hostile, it was far from welcoming.

In the room was a welcome letter and 3 x profiteroles?

There were also a couple of small snacks and 2 x small bottles of water. I suspect every room gets that.

:(

Yes I did on checkout but all I got was that he would note it on the system so I would get it on the next stay. But I usually stay on Sun/Mon so not sure what happens then...

To his credit, the DoubleTree Wellington hotel manager made nice amends the next day.

I was offered a room upgrade and 2 x drinks vouchers.

The drinks vouchers have been dropped for Diamonds but they might return in the future…
Did you have to message the manager to get that?

I'm there next week, but rarely take chances on upgrades, so just booked a suite from the outset.
How did breakfast go? That is likely the only Diamond benefit I'll use.

Cheers,
Matt.

Make sure to let Diamond Desk know about this concern, as well as the manager's (positive?) remedy afterwards. So that they know what they can improve and acknowledge what the manager did to make amendments.

It could also be the way staff were provided training (or just had a bad day) that could've led to this interaction (not defending this, btw), but it is something the Manager and GM level need to address to make sure it's a common occurrence.

I always have problems with these things - especially at Sydney Hilton
Stayed at the Hilton Atlanta earlier this year, was a fairly new hotel and every single socket in the room I was in was extremely tight, and I managed to short circuit the room TWICE during my three day stay. The maintenance guy said it was happening up and down the entire hotel since opening. I happened to be carrying a charger that also had a double adapter on it , so I asked him to plug this in and used only that for the remainder of my stay.

so the prospect of plugging things in and out has me slightly nervous now!
