Second stay in this MGallery hotel. It’s a place you either love or hate depending on taste. Rate is generally very competitive when comparing against Sofitel Sukhumvit and So Sofitel. Breakfast is good, though not spectacular. Had a great meal at Babettes Steakhouse, price reasonable with Accor Plus discount.

Property: Swissotel Sydney

Room Booked: Premier Room (lowest category)
Room upgrade: Yes, multiple categories to Swiss Executive Room (corner suite)

Early check in / check out: Both given
VIP treatment: Two free bottles of water, fruit platter, large bottle of sparking and still mineral water + chocolates
Additional care/notes: Executive Lounge access, free breakfast. First time staying with this chain since the Accor Acquisition. Was impressed that all benefits were applied and the style of the rooms were fairly five-star. This was a great children friendly hotel and well located in the CBD. Housekeeping was quick to make baby cot, extra towels etc available for a our little ones. Would definitely consider this hotel again when a good sale is available.

Rate: Accor Plus Free and Flexible ($302)

Very impressed. Had good degustation meal in Tamarind with Accor Plus benefit. 1 free breakfast-menu service and buffer offered.
Poor luck in casino and the minimum bets are a bit high for a casual better. Music and dancing at the bar was very.. democratic. Wide range of ages
All in all a very good stay

Additional care/notes: No executive lounge but the hotel is absolutely beautiful and brand new. It has great views over the river and the city skyline and offered a pretty good buffet breakfast. NOVOTEL sweet dreams bed is always very comfy and not so soft as the Sofitel bed. I’ll definitely consider returning here for a modern, and contemporary accommodation

Rate : $371 for 2 nights breakfast included / no cancellation refund.
Free internet : Yes
Welcome drinks : Yes x 2 / not used as bar closed

Additional care / notes : Booked for the wrong bloody week didn't I. Rachel (receptionist) & Josh (Rooms manager) went out of their way to help sort my mistake. Cancelled original booking, used credit for the first night room they found then refunded the 2nd night as they were fully booked with no cancellations coming in & offered to assist in rebooking elsewhere. Wasn't entitled to a refund for original booking so pretty darn happy with there effort.
Etihad are now using it as their crew hotel. It is a bit of a rabbit warren & a few crew were quite lost. luckily only 6 floors.

Property: Novotel on Collins

Rate: @236
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drinks: Yes, one. Swapped for a takeaway coffee in the morning
Early check in / late out: Not required, not offered
Exec Lounge: NA
VIP treatment: On entering they room I was struck with a strange smell, turns out to be the blue cheese on a cheese platter in the room. Generous in room treat however having it sit on the desk uncovered for an unknown amount of hours (i checked in at 9pm) saw the cheese past its best. how hard would it be to put in the fridge? Breakfast for plats seems to be well sorted here, even had barista made coffee at no charge. With a new Novotel opening in the city soon i feel this hotel needs a major refurb to keep up.

VIP treatment: Hotel currently under renovation, reception area. Nothing particularity wrong about this hotel but at the same time I'm not in a hurry to rush back either. When booking the 2 night rates were considerably cheaper than a single night booking, haven't seen a big difference like this before. ($550 pn single night stay Vs $260 pn for 2 night stay). Small choc in room only recognition it was'nt treated as a normal booking.
Good news front, this stay just qualified me for plat again next year!

Status: Platinum
Room Booked: Luxury King Corner Room, Darling Harbour View
Room upgrade: No
Rate: $444
Free internet: Free wireless internet
Welcome drinks: Yes - 2 vouchers for a house beverage at certain outlets... though didn't use.
Early check in / check out: Late check-out to 1PM given, after some shuffling (limited rooms of this type)
Exec Lounge: Yes

Additional care/notes: A night out and stay-cation for SWMBO's milestone birthday was the reason for this stay, close to home, and though Platinum status might have helped with the only bonus extra - a bottle of wine in the room - I think it was more the fact that I had noted it was for a special occasion that we got anything but the bare minimum that they could provide.

They have a great hard product, but service in the lounge and Champagne Bar was noticeably slow, or altogether absent, without prompting. Pre-dinner drinks and canapes were just 'ok', but not really in keeping with the brand standard, I wouldn't have thought (hot canapes were 'handmade' sausage rolls, and potato gnocchi). Breakfast was better, after we finally flagged down a lounge butler to order it! I'm glad we went out for dinner (Bennelong - which was great!)

I'd probably give it another try as a treat for the right price, just as the hard product is very nice, but it will be a tough sell once the W and Ritz-Carlton are on the scene!

Cheers,
Matt.

Free internet: Yes
Welcome drinks: Yes, only one. Got 2nd voucher on request

VIP treatment: Welcome note with small cake acknowledging 20th stay at hotel. Plenty of waters. Turndown service. Newspaper.

Nice enough stay at one of my regular hotels. A few more of the old faces now gone. But still an overall very friendly and quality team. No idea I was at 20 stays. Probably explains why I am getting quite tired of the place - especially the bar and the lounge (which are generally quiet and comfortably familiar, but a bit stale).

Will return, but the new Sofitel will be getting a run soon too.

Try to do that in Australia.

Also if you need a place for Christmas or New Years Eve Dinner, look no further.
