How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

I wonder how long they will continue with sending such 'upgrade requests' to platinum - I had the same, rang them, and got the same response.
Understand sending such out but not to plats who already get the upgrades.

I guess it depends on room upgrade availability as it’s not guaranteed even as a Platinum but by paying for the upgrade you are guaranteed one.
That must be the only reason

Overall opinion: Pretty decent stay as a transit. Staff struggled a bit and whilst not polished were very attentive. Hotel has only just recently re-opened after being a Covid hotel and severely understaffed although they were training staff the day we visited. Check in efficient and our parents arrived a few hours before us and we’re able to access their room. Our room was upgraded to a suite as Diamonds but parents room was given a 1 grade upgrade to Premier room. They had dinner at restaurant whilst waiting for us and said food was great but service a touch slow as restaurant was packed. Rooms comfortable but could do with a bit of a freshen up, breakfast was the usual spread and decent enough. Bar service was attentive and good range of drinks with comfortable seating. As Diamonds we were initially offered 2pm check out but as we had a 11pm flight asked for that to be extended or willing to pay day rate or even full night if required. Was quoted $80 to book room until 6pm and allow us a shower and perhaps a nap before heading to airport. On checkout the manager waived the $80 fee so happy with that. DFO and plaza directly across the road to waste a few hours and pick up any last minute clothing and accessories.
Hotel Shuttle bus currently not running but was fairly cheap to get a mini bus to terminal. Would stay here again on transit

Been a few years since I’d stayed here, previously just called Cairns Harbour Lights.
Great location, positioned above some good restaurants.
Cairns is super busy, so everything is more expensive, people everywhere.
Pretty basic room, with a great view. I’m pretty sure I could’ve cast a line in from the balcony.47EE3E20-4985-4A13-9505-8523475CAAD4.jpeg07FADABF-2975-42A5-9652-D24D648EF16F.jpeg19326829-7347-4929-A9C7-4C63EB6E9CAE.jpeg

Overall a nice property for an airport hotel and located mere meters from international terminal. Arriving at 2am we were quickly checked in and up to our rooms. Due to rain out portacot had become wet, but the staff quickly arranged a hotel one for us to use. All the staff we interacted with were lovely. Soundproofing was good and we didn’t really hear anything from the airport.

Free internet: Yes, but slower than dialup…

Welcome drink: Yes, two vouchers, had the request a third
Welcome gift: Yes, tea set and macaroons

Mixed feelings on this property. On the positive side the staff were great and friendly (which I think is one of the most important aspect for a hotel), rooms were comfortable, beds were excellent and the restaurant was on the top floor with good views. On the downside the soundproofing was horrible and Auckland is very noisy at night, the service not quite as polished as I expect for a Movenpick and the property didn’t quite have the luxury feeling of their Melbourne and Hobart properties. The wort thing was the internet… it was honestly shocker than dialup and at times completely unusable. We requested an upgrade to a suite to assist with having extra space for our infant, which after some checks with the manager, was thankfully provided - but, a little disappointed it wasn’t automatically provided. Usually don’t have any issues with Platinum breakfast for two rooms on a single booking (technically was booking as a family two room booking), but after explaining to the staff it was sorted. Coffee was a downside being staff operated Nespresso machine and in the end we didn’t drink out as it just wasn’t nice; food was reasonable. Chocolate hour was pleasant and the view from the top floor is quite nice and a relaxing way to spend the afternoon. Dinner was reasonable with an interesting Asian fusion menu, again staff were very pleasant and accommodating for our infant. Would I stay again? Maybe, depending on price, but more likely would try the SO property two blocks away. Interesting, the stay showed up as a Mercure on my credit card so I guess they’ve tried to convert to a Movenpick!

An excellent family stay at the Mercure Naha, which is located directly next to Tsubogawa monorail station - five stops and $3 from Naha airport. It's proximity to the airport, on-site rental car agency presence, and decent location in Naha (10 min walk to Kokusai-dori) makes it a good option for a brief stopover in Okinawa. There's also FamilyMart and 7-11 within 30 sec walk, and a Don Quijote about 3 min away.

Only one of the three booked rooms was upgraded a single category, but the room rates were still excellent value. The room, car & parking package for the 2nd and 3rd nights was also a godsend as most rental companies in Okinawa are fully booked for months due to a shortage of cars. The package also allows the car to be picked up from 8am on the day of arrival to 7pm on the day of departure, essentially providing 3 days of car usage with a 2 night booking.

The included car parking uses a bank of fancy Japanese car lifts right next to the hotel entrance, about as close as you can get to valet without someone else driving your car.

Elite benefits were excellent including late check-out to 5pm by request and complimentary breakfast for all rooms, making the room rate even better value.

PXL_20221012_092853887.jpg

Breakfast was a decent spread of Japanese and Western options, with a daily special station which was Okinawa Soba and Taco Rice on the two days I ate breakfast. It also has a decent amount of healthy options which is my usual pet peeve with 3-4 star hotel buffets in Japan. For those who enjoy a morning tipple, there was even a 'Morning Awamori' station - a potent Japanese spirit.

No coin laundry onsite, but there was an independent one just a block away which offered a 50 minute wash & dry cycle for 700 yen.

Status points for 2 rooms including car package have credited correctly, status nights for 1 room as expected. Will definitely stay again as I usually end up in Okinawa at least once or twice a year to visit family.

Welcome gift: Yes, welcome plate with macaroons and a couple of chocolates.
Parking: Free to all but I got a reserved spot at the door, nice.
There is a restaurant open 5 nights with a very limited and basic menu, designed for blind freddy to cook as they haven’t had a chef in months. Burgers, fish and chips, etc. I was told the Novotel in town also doesn’t have a chef and their restaurant has been closed for a while. The coffee from the machine, which reminded me of the stuff at 10,000 conferences and seminars, sealed a ‘never again’ ranking from moi.

Ibis and Novotel in the same building - separated by floor allocation - separate breakfast areas.
separate check in areas, though Novotel concierge was happy to book an early taxi to the airport

Common restaurants - sea food overcooked

Credit to QFF was prompt and better than the credit to ALL

Happy wandering

Room upgraded/type: Yes, further upgrade to Deluxe Suite (81sqm)
Rate: Accor Plus $199pn

Welcome drink: Yes, two vouchers
Welcome gift: Bottle of Pommery and a platter of cheeses, cold cuts, truffle honey, etc

I booked this stay some months ago as I had two nights in Tokyo and it seemed like a decent use of SNUs within my upcoming travel plans. I wasn't expecting any further upgrade, as the ALL engine doesn't show any category higher than the Superior Suite, but apparently there is a single Deluxe Suite which is only bookable by contacting the hotel directly.

The suite was massive and well appointed. The bedding was comfortable however the pillows a little too tall for my liking. Large walk-in wardrobe offered ample hanging space. The suite had two toilets, one near the foyer/living area and one connected to the gigantic bathroom. The bath was huge and easily fits two people.

PXL_20221020_071016118.jpg PXL_20221020_071314471.jpg PXL_20221020_071004724.jpg PXL_20221020_071032272.jpg PXL_20221020_071112269.jpg

The room was quite well thought-out, with only two major design flaws: the master light switches didn't control every single light so finding all the switches to turn off the lights each night was a bit of a mission, and while the living room & bedroom blinds were electronically operated, the block-out blind in the bathroom was not and required a bit of manoeuvring around the bathtub to reach. The wall separating the bathroom and bedroom is tinted glass, so sunlight filled the bedroom via the bathroom window on both mornings...

But these are fairly minor (and 1st world) complaints in what was an excellent stay. Not withstanding the upgrade and the best welcome gift I've received to date - likely influenced by a note on the booking that it's our honeymoon - the service levels were impeccable from start to finish. Status benefits were clearly explained and recognition was solid. Staff went out of their way to help us at all times.

The EL was pretty good too with a nice open air terrace, house wines and a beer tap (Premium Malts Master's Dream) available all day, with more wines, spirits and a "tapas plate set" in the evening. The tapas plate was quite substantial. There was no substantial breakfast offering in the EL with just pre-packaged muffins and yoghurts available.

PXL_20221021_001243495.jpg PXL_20221020_081655486.jpg PXL_20221020_081433304.jpg PXL_20221020_081424765.jpg PXL_20221020_081742637~2.jpg

The breakfast buffet at Kasa was passable, but not the best quality and probably the weakest point of the stay. The made-to-order egg omelette and eggs bene were both rather average. Barista coffee wasn't offered but was provided on request, and was okay.

The welcome drink voucher was redeemable at Junction (lobby bar) for house wines, beers, soft drink, basic mixed drinks (G&T etc), coffee and tea. We used ours on hot and iced lattes and both were very good by Japanese standards.

The Pullman is well positioned with undercover pedestrian bridge access directly into Tamachi & Mita stations allowing for a single train to both HND & NRT and easy access to the Yamanote line. The property opened 1.5 years prior to covid, and on the three occasions we caught a taxi to the hotel, each taxi driver hadn't heard of the hotel and we had to provide additional info for them to look it up. If you can't speak Japanese and might catch a cab here, it's worth asking reception for a business card showing the address & phone number of the hotel, or having the info handy before hopping in.

Apologies for the big update here. However, I’ve been travelling quite a bit over the past two weeks and so didn’t have much of an opportunity to post:

Property: Breakfree Great Sandy Straits (Hervey Bay)

Accor Status: Accor+Gold

Room booked: 1 Bedroom ($89 AUD/night)

Free internet: No internet (paid or otherwise)

Welcome drink: Yes - 2 bottles of water and green iced tea extract. Also some cookies

Early check in/late out: N/A

VIP treatment: No

Access to executive lounge (if existing): N/A

General comments: Arrived “late” into Harvey Bay at 6 PM after reception closed. Emailed them a couple nights before and they had my keys ready in a lock box. I wouldn’t call this special treatment other than to note that this is somewhat unusual for reception to close so soon. Room itself was alright albeit it felt quite a bit dated. There was a number of appliances that you would ordinarily not find in an Accor hotel like Hobbs, cutlery, laundry machine, etc. which was a nice addition (albeit maybe this is normal for Breakfree properties?)

I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of wifi as that meant that I had to tether of my iPhone/iPad to stay connected and cell reception there was questionable at best. The hotel is near the boat club and is in a kind of gated community where you need to use your key to gain access to the condo complex. The hotel had a couple of amenities like tennis courts and two swimming pools: a lap pool (pictured below) and a regular swimming pool ( not pictured, I used the later and it was alright).

Property: Mercure Townsville

Accor Status: Accor+Gold

Room booked: Standard Room, 1 Queen Bed ($145 AUD/night)

Room upgraded/type: Yes, superior or deluxe (forgot which one)

Rate: Accor Plus Stay Longer and Save

Free internet: Yes. Acceptable speeds from what I can recall too.

Welcome drink: Yes - 2 bottles of water and local craft beer in fridge. Also given three drink vouchers (more on that later)

Early check in/late out: N/A

VIP treatment: No

Access to executive lounge (if existing): N/A

General comments: Arrived early into Townsville on the JetStar nonstop flight that lands around 8 AM IIRC. After a bit of a hike from the airport managed to have Macca’s before heading to hotel. Dropped stuff off at hotel but didn’t check in as I didn’t really need the room then and there as the plan was to go out exploring Townsville proper. Checked in later at 7 PM and everything went smoothly including notification that I was upgraded to a better room. One thing I did notice was the lack of drink vouchers although when I brought that up with reception they apologized graciously gave me 3 vouchers.

In terms of the hotel itself it’s not too bad. Location wise it’s near a shopping centre which can be convenient. Getting into Townsville proper from the hotel is about a 15 minute drive (or 30 minutes if you are like me and hired a eScooter). So not the most central of hotels. In terms of amenities, this was probably one of the nicer Accor hotels I stayed in that regard. Good restaurant with outdoor dining, swimming pools, tennis courts, and a resort like atmosphere with hiking trails. If you don’t mind being outside of Townsville proper it can be a solid choice, especially if the room rate is alright.
