How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Property: Sofitel Brisbane Central
Status: Accor Plus Gold
Room Booked: Luxury Room on spring members offer with $1 breakfast.
Room upgrade: No, but got high floor. Didn’t ask about any further upgrade but note that there was an email offer for paid upgrade.
Free internet: Yes.
Welcome drinks: Yes, two redeemable for house wines, beers at lobby bar.
Early check in / late out: 12pm check in and 12pm check out.
Exec Lounge: No.
VIP treatment: drink vouchers, bottled water in room, newspaper, spa discount. Small caddy of tea as welcome amenity although key wallet refers to pastries as amenity. As we ate at the restaurant I’d had my fill pastries so was happy with the tea.

Hotel very busy this weekend. Check in was a bit slow but a staff member proactively approached me in line and asked if I was gold/platinum and invited me to check in at another desk. Turn down service was good with herbal teas laid out, more water and chocolates. Buffet restaurant good as always and staff remembered us as we regularly dine at hotel.

Property: Novotel Brisbane

Status: Platinum

Room booked: Lowest priced entry level - I think it was about $150/n x 5 nights

Room Upgrade: Apparently, although I don’t think there is much to differentiate this property other than high floors (which we got)

Free internet: Yes and it’s fast

Welcome drink: x 2

No early late check out required

Exec Lounge: lol it’s a Novotel

VIP treatment: This is the only reason I’m writing this review (a Novotel isn’t usually anything to get excited by).

Called the day prior by the hotel manager Richard. As we were checking in NYE he sorted parking and details for us. Usually never get this sort of call at Novotel level.

On arrival welcomed by name. Richard came down to welcome me and had just been in our room to make sure all was in order

in room was a bar of chocolate and mineral water. 5 mins later a bottle of French champagne and a plate of handmade choc deserts were delivered with a personalised note.

All staff seemed already to know our names and we were welcomed by name at breakfast and the one dinner we had in house. We felt they must have mistaken us for rockstars, but I suspect they just made an effort.

As I said, I wouldn’t really review a Novotel but this was very impressive and I’m happy to say that even at Sofitel level I’ve never been made to feel so welcome.

Property: Mantra Surfers Paradise Apartments
Status: Accor Silver
Room booked: Two bedroom apartment
Room upgraded/type: No upgrade - we were on level 23 of the Ballah tower.
Rate: Eye watering due to deciding the day before to spend two night between Xmas and NY at Surfers Paradise  [$950/night] Booked a rate that was meant to be paid 14 days in advance, but I booked online the day before arriving. I received a call a couple of hours after booking telling me that payment was required in full. No worries.
Free internet: Allegedly, but we didn't use it. I'd told Miss 13 there was no internet, and luckily we had a code for it, and she couldn't use the usual name/room number to get in.
Welcome drink: Bottle of French sparkling water (Payot?) in the room.
Early check in/late out: N/A
VIP treatment: A handwritten note with the water.
Access to executive lounge (if existing): N/A
Additional care: N/A
General comments: Would be better to plan more in advance to stay here .. and maybe get a better rate! Our room was fine, and more spacious than getting two hotel rooms at the Hilton, which had been my other plan until the rooms there went from $490/night to $590/night before my Mum confirmed she would come with us. I couldn't tell what the difference was between an "executive" two bed apartment and a regular one - after staying, I suspect the executive level apartments are more recently upgraded! Our apartment was a bit shabby in places, but served our purposes for a short getaway and being one block away from my aunt and uncle's unit on Hanlan St.

Welcome drinks: One free beer or wine
Exec Lounge: Yes as part of booked room

Room upgrade: Yes, Deluxe Suite (Top floor, corner room).
Free internet: Yes, high speed.

VIP treatment: Great upgrade, confirmed in advance so provided with room privileges which included two-way airport transfers and use of a car/driver for 4 hours (for about $40). Full breakfast in restaurant. Multiple waters. Platter of cheese, 3 jars of snacks and a bottle of wine in room. Welcome drink and accompanied by 3 staff to check-in in my room.

Short but outstanding stay. Great communications with hotel in advance (initiated by me). Excellent upgrade to a quiet suite. Transfers and drivers were excellent, and knowing in advance of the free transfer was a big bonus. Staff superb throughout. Good breakfast - plenty of fresh options and not crowded. Lounge was also excellent. Obviously convenient to the airport but also not at all hard to get to city. Pricey by Indian standards but thoroughly recommended nonetheless.

Additional info and pics to follow.

Nice platter in the room. Arrival after 9pm so this may have been in lieu of lounge benefits.

Room was excellent. Two TVs, two bathrooms, modern and comfortable.

Surprisingly great lounge. Large and comfortable, airport views, good food and service, and exceptionally quiet (4 guests in total the one evening I attended).

Wine was awful but the food excellent, including 4 hot items freshly made in the kitchen (mushrooms, fish and chicken - and a quiche). Spirits simple but fine.

Status: Accor Plus Silver

Room booked: Executive King Bed (1 night)

Room upgraded/type: Yes, Junior Suite

Rate: Black Friday 40%+10% off (Black Friday, with breakfast)

Free internet: Yes

Welcome drink: Yes, was given 2 welcome drink vouchers. However, we had to prompt for these. Understandable as we tried to check in early, but rooms weren't available until around lunchtime. We then picked up the room cards but didn't remember the drink vouchers until later

Early check in/late out: Not proactively offered, but requested both. Check in was possible at 11am, 2pm late checkout was available and taken up on.

VIP treatment: There was a card from the manager, but nothing else other than mentioned above.

Other comments: The room was good, but it (and the exec lounge) were showing their age. My OH had a function here and the catering was apparently really good (I didn't attend so cannot confirm). The shower water wasn't hot enough for my OH - fine for me as I take cooler showers.

My 2020 stays as Diamond so far. Not hugely impressed but not really disappointed either; try not to get too excited or entitled with status anymore as I think better to pay for what you want and just appreciate any little extra.

Room booked: Cheapest type
Room upgraded/type: Yes, upgraded to 1 bedroom suite with separate lounge area.
Rate: Cheapest option
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes, bottle of white wine
Early check in/late out: Not needed

Access to executive lounge (if existing): Apparently not normal to have this access but I was able to use the Pullman lounge next door funnily enough...
Additional care: Not really
General comments: Probably got an upgrade as I whinged about rates inconsistency and misleading offers to their staff during the Australian Open week

Room upgraded/type: Not possible
Rate: Advance purchase saver rate during sale (40% off)
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes, and huge platter with lots of junk food packs, chocolates, packs of chips, a bottle of some local sparking (pretty good!). All the hotels need to go easy on the junk food 'gifts' though, it's literally just cheap junk food... Gesture is nice but we left most of it there.
Early check in/late out: 1PM checkout requested and granted
VIP treatment: Walked about 15m less than other guests to car since there was a 'Diamond' parking area, got a card from the GM/property manager
Access to executive lounge (if existing): None at this property
Additional care: Not really
General comments: Overall very good property and visit, not at calibre of equivalent resorts in Asia in terms of value (Fairmont Sanur, Pullman coughet or non Accor Shangri-La Penang are all better bang for your buck of course)

Property: Sofitel Darling Harbour
Status: Gold
Room Booked: 2x Superior Room 3 Nights
Room upgrade: No, but got a higher floor
Free internet: Yes, high speed.
Welcome drinks: Yes, four.
Early check in / late out: Arrived late at night but requested late checkout and got 1hr on 1 room (12pm).
Exec Lounge: Didn't get access
VIP treatment: I rang originally, and put notes on the booking, and followed up by email that I needed adjoining rooms. Was told all was ok as I planned to have the kids in one room and wife and I in the other. On arrival was told they don't have adjoining rooms at all, they consider adjoining as two rooms on the same floor and the rooms we had were 4 rooms apart. Meant I had to sleep with the kids but was moved from floor 12 to 23 the next night with rooms next to each other. Thanks to Evan for sorting it out. Also had a bottle of wine in the room with a card which was nice.

Otherwise was a really nice stay, the hotel is very nice, great location and easy access to everything. The breakfast buffet was amazing.

Property: SO Auckland
Status: Platinum
Room Booked: Most basic (SO Cosy) 3 nights. March 2020
Room upgrade: Yes. Club Signature room - harbour view, balcony (but only on 5th floor).
Free internet: Yes, high speed.
Welcome drinks: Yes, two. Now redeemable for anything up to $20. Used at HI-SO the rooftop bar which is now much quieter in the afternoons than before.
Early check in / late out: Not required.
Exec Lounge: Yes.
VIP treatment: Lovely welcome back card plus all specified Club Signature benefits (see below); bottle of decent wine I've had in the lounge before and a magnificent savoury platter on account of arrival well after midnight (confirmed ahead of stay). Wow.

Amazing stay. It was a near last-minute booking and so even pricier than usual. But the service is terrific and benefits for top-tier guests substantial. Even more tailored and familiar than my several stays in 2019.

Great spa session, tailored to my preferences. Room upgrade appreciated (mainly for the space). Good room service.

Lounge fabulous, with outstanding service from Will and Som. I was alone in the lounge most of the time and had just fantastic service. Great NZ spirits served as well (including to my room well after the evening service concluded). Full breakfast in the excellent Harbour Society restaurant.

Staff throughout great. Personable, kind and genuine. I don't think I've encountered better.
