Thanks. How is the pool area? I think we will spend some time around the pool.My vote is Swissotel, as mentioned great views from the lounge and sunsets.
Normally get a high floor room as a Platinum with great views also.
Haven't spent much time around the pool area to give a review.Thanks. How is the pool area? I think we will spend some time around the pool

Looks great - must try it out. Were you disappointed not to get an upgrade as a Diamond?
Were you expecting to stack the upgrade for being on HERA rate and Accor Platinum? They had provided you an upgrade initially?Property: Hotel Sosei MGallery, Sapporo
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Room booked: Superior King
Room upgraded/type: Superior King, Exec floor
Rate: Accor Preferred - Stay 3 pay 2
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes
Early check in/late out: Yes, 1pm late checkout proactively offered at check-in
Welcome drink: 2 vouchers in-app, didn't have a chance to redeem
Welcome gift: Some local
A very last minute booking - my wife's work asked if we could extend a personal holiday to Japan so she could take a side trip to Sapporo. At 56k JPY for three nights this felt like a bargain for an MGallery... but read on...
The Accor Preferred rate includes a space available room upgrade, 100 USD credit, and free breakfast.

There was no upgrade mentioned on checkin. On reaching our room, it seemed we'd been assigned an Exec Superior room, a nice room but identical to the category booked, just on the top floor and with exec benefits (no lounge - but breakfast, afternoon tea, coughtails and free minibar).

I called the front desk - notably staffed by a high % of foreigners - to ask whether this was really considered an upgrade.
They were immediately defensive and started rattling off exec benefits. For each one I asked if I would be entitled to that as an ALL Platinum - yes, yes, yes, yes - so they reluctantly moved me to an Exec Deluxe room (29sqm -> 39sqm) which was the top category available for sale on the nights I was there. Happy with the result but way more difficult than it needed to be.

The minibar was restocked each day with two cans of Sapporo Classic beer, and bottles of Coke, Fanta and tea.
Breakfast was a modest but high quality spread inc made to order omelettes. Barista coffee included for free. The service at the restaurant was top notch - the staff couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating, especially on the days when I was handling a 1yo by myself.

What I failed to anticipate about this stay was the 100 USD credit being so difficult to use. The on-site restaurant was closed for lunch and dinner, and there is no room service. Their website is quite clear about this so I should have done more research. I had incorrectly assumed these would be options at a 5 star property.
We ended up opting to use the credit on a few "assorted sweets" boxes (see photo of Preferred benefits above) which we'd take home as souvenirs. However they only had a single box in stock, and it expired on the day we asked about it. We didn't really have a need for heaps of MGallery merch, so ended up letting 6000 yen credit go unused.
When checking out we gave feedback about this to the front desk, and I asked for the GM's details so I could provide some feedback on this as well as positive feedback about the restaurant. The GM (unbeknownst to us) happened to be walking through the lobby and the front desk pointed him out - so we got talking directly.
His English was excellent, but my wife works in the industry, and is much better at providing criticism like this (more tactfully than I can do anyway!) so she spoke with him in Japanese. He acknowledged it wasn't good enough, and that he wasn't aware of it so he appreciated us bringing it to his attention. He offered to refund the unused credit as cash, which I thought was excellent service recovery. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'll post again in a few weeks if it doesn't turn up.
The last thing to mention is the location. The hotel is directly next to Sapporo Factory - a large department store - and it's walking distance to the Sapporo Beer Museum, however the property is otherwise a bit out of the way. Notably it is not connected to Sapporo's extensive underground walkways in the CBD, so if staying here during Nov-Mar, you'd almost certainly be reliant on taxis or buses to get to/from the property.

What I’ve learned over the years (I book hotels as a side hustle) is that a bookable room or suite doesn’t necessarily mean it’s eligible for a complimentary upgrade. Free upgrades often can come from a separate inventory.Wasn't expecting a stack, but all the benefits of the "exec" floor were already available to me as Platinum, and the room footprint was identical to what I'd booked.
The only actually difference was a higher floor. Technically it is an upgrade, but one that I feel can always be reasonably questioned, especially when there are higher categories available.
I've been one of those people standing at check-in literally showing on the hotels app that they have higher room categories available when I've been refused upgrades before. They don't care and insist no rooms are available. Mine was an Intercontinental (K.L)Yup, I've had that rubbish too (I think it was a HH property though). They insisted no rooms were available. I said what happens if I book this higher room in the app now and come to check-in.. They couldn't answer.
