How long until you get to LTP? (Or are you already there ^_~)

I certainly do not envy you, especially 4 years of Y.
Interesting about the tech companies, are they mainly Australian? And not that mature (guess that's what you mean by "newer")?
You could say Facebook is a "newer tech company".
The tech companies I've worked for over the last 8 yrs were HQ'd either on the West or East Coast. Some of the older legacy companies have policies that if you're a certain level or above (say VP) and travel is 8hrs+ then you're entitled to business class. Most of the newish tech companies I have worked for in the past 8 yrs scrapped the 8hrs+ / VP level in J and have everyone traveling in Y.

On recent earning rates it will take another 7-9 years for me to reach LTP. But this could change due to circumstances and because I currently do most of my flying on non-One World airlines and there is scope for the flying on QF + One World to materially increase or decrease in future compared with recent levels.

Easy... when I become a famous movie producer and move to Hawaii, I will need to fly weekly return to LAX to make my important movies and do other important Hollywood business. If I choose to leave the PJ in the shed, and fly commercial (sigh), I would fly AA return in F which is 300SC. Booking far enough out (and I would because I am so busy and important my schedule is known years in advance) the going rate for HNL-LAX rtn in AA F is $1777. @ 300SC a pop that means I need to fly that trip 250 times.

Assuming I get some weeks off... let's say I do it 48x a year, that's only 5 years and a bit..... and only $444,250!

Hollywood here I come!

Thought Qantas might have been a bit creative, include only flights on Qantas metal, and made it something attainable
I am sure they probably would have liked to do this - but are stuck because they no longer have the data to do it.

When introducing P1, because it was only within the last year, they had the source records of where the SC earn came from, so easy.

For Lifetime status, they would no longer have the data on the individual SC earns - only the LT totals. So no way to distinguish whether those 10 year old SC were gained from a QF flight, or from some partner. This makes it impossible to have any meaningful "only on QF / JQ metal" criteria, as they can't implement it - hence all SC count, and the high target as a result.

This also highlights the fact that people keep talking about loyalty to QF because of the large number of SC - but it really only reflects loyalty to QFF with respect to crediting points - you may have contributed zero actual flight revenue if flying on a partner (only whatever QF charge the partner for the points awarded).

As the LT status have no ~, you can actually gain LTS, LTG or LTP without ever setting foot on QF or JQ metal (but why you would do this, when there would be better options out there for such a flyer, I would not know).

This topic is interesting because literally, every possible reason for introducing LTP at 75K is a disaster....

The downside for Qantas is the MUCH LARGER number of members who have 14,000+ status credits and headroom remaining to increase their share of wallet with QF. Who now, don't give a ****.

Overall - my prediction is that lifetime platinum will cost the company instead of bringing in any material gain.

The best and most logical reason I can fathom is that it's a political stunt.
My thoughts exactly! My situation exactly. A rusted on 29,000+ SC WP + LTG, but totally no incentive to stay loyal now. I’m spreading my wings and that will cost Qantas quite a bit of lost revenue as I take my paid J trips elsewhere. I’ll still be using my huge FF points balance on award seats though - if I can get them.

My take on the rationale for the 75,000 entry level to LTP. The lack of an incentive to stay with QFF once one hits LTG has been endlessly commented on here. LTP just means a new threshold for no incentive to stay, so hey let’s make it really high so people will hang in with us as long as possible. It might even work for some; I look forward to threads on strategies for LTP . And of course LTP status runs:cool:.

BTW averaging my SCs since joining QFF post AN’s demise I expect to get there when I am in my 110s. Unless I clock up a lot more than now through LTP status runs.

Cheers skip

DSCs & Sale Fares combined with indirect flights to DPS & NOU are a couple.

I’ve never done a Status Run
without turning it into a holiday, so obviously it’s going to cost more for transfers, food & accomodation. I’ve never pushed myself to do it all for the lowest price. Just know that it can be done.

I only book J and only when there is a sale.

There is a Status Run table on AFF somewhere, and I recall @ianthongy doing a Status Run to include many flights throughout the USA.

There are also short flights hopping around Asia reaping cheap status credits.

Thanks for the info on NOU and DPS indirect. Any more tricks you've got to get WP for under A$3000/year ? I'm sure there would be so many people interested to know more :)

The only thing I've done that could be considered a "status run" was a series of flights during a RTW holiday to use up flights allowed on the tickets and save some money on hotels/food for 3 days.

3 day no stopover run of HEL-LHR-DXB-LHR-HKG-NRT-SIN-PER-MEL with a ticket change between a DONE3 and DAS13 at NRT and an overnight stay in the SIN Skyview lounge. AY from HEL, BA for the DXB turn, QF to HKG, CX to NRT, JL to SIN, then QF to MEL. Stored checked bag at LHR, had to enter Japan to collect bags and recheck during the ticket change. Took some explaining to Japan immigration what I was doing. They couldn't work out why I wouldn't just fly HKG-SIN.
First got Platinum during that run after having first reached Gold earlier the same trip while in the US.

I retired at 63K SCs. If I'd maintained my pre-retirement flying levels, I'd have got there in about 3 more years. But it will be never for me now, and I'll have to content myself with LTG.

Of course, I'm kicking myself about not making the change to BA. I was doing 4 BA sectors each year, and was travelling more or less exclusively in F internationally!!!!

I’ve just passed the mark for LTS.

I'm 54,000 SCs short. That's another 45 years at 1200 SCs a year which will take me right to my 100th birthday. Nice way to celebrate would be flying somewhere for game of golf.

@trippin_the_rift if I’m reading post #31 correctly, are you saying I should immediately start crediting BAEC?
Why? For Lifetime Emerald? It's not that simple to earn 35,000 Tier points and you don't know if BA won't change the goalposts next month.

Attaining Platinum is still easier with QFF unless you want to fly around in circles going nowhere in particular.

I’m not suggesting I’m going to switch, it was mostly hypothetical.

in all seriousness, has anyone made any major dents towards their LTSC in the past year? do you guys reckon there's a chance QFF will review the LTP quals in view of the forecast travel patterns within the next 5 years ...

My boss made it but he travels highest class available and sometimes even private so you can imagine the head start you get from that ;)
