26 including Jakarta (JKT).
Would be 28 if QF was flying to PEK and PVG 2 years ago..

I know of a couple of people that didn't know the difference between JKT and CGK - to their dismay when they missed their flights!

As long as I can recall (last 8-10 years) QF has gone to CGK

Luckily we dont have that issue in NZ - strictly the one (mainline) airport per metropolitan area.

Is this not true, here on the west island as well?

Not sure this is so, and maybe slowly over time will further change at some cities in Oz.

One could perceive that first-time travellers, not clear about where to go end up at Tullamarine rather than Avalon. Given the LARGE signs in the QF dom side, it must happen frequently enough. Not been to AVV to see if they have similar signs there!

This potentially could be exacerbated with Jetstar and Jetstar Asia operations (assuming JA won't be able to use AVV), for example.

Indeed MEL and AVV was one case I was thinking of when I posted not mentioning Oz. PER domestic and international, while at the same airport, may as well be different airports for the distance by road between them (and difficulty in transfering) - similarly but not as pronounced for SYD and BNE.

Perhaps QF used to fly to JKT?
They also flew to FCO, ATH, CDG, AMS? but not anymore and I am certain I transitted in KUL on the SYD-ATH flight. Anyone else remember if QF ever flew to KUL?

QF 31/32 used to be SYD-KUL-SIN and return. Used to catch it a lot from the old Subang airport - 767 aircraft. As I recall, arrived KUL mid-afternoon, returned to KUL from SIN about 6pm and left for SYD about an hour later. I am pretty sure it never went on to ATH.

My mother went to ATH in 1982 with QF and she is certain that it transitted in KUL.

I went to ATH in 1990 with QF and I think it was also a transit in KUL but may be mistaken. I have been cleaning out my filing system at home and I have been trying to find an itinerary for my 1990 trip. No luck so far.

My experience on the route only goes back to 1992 and it may well have been different before then, but I am fairly sure (read someone will prove me wrong) since then!

Malaysia has tried several times over the years to get QF to use them as a hub (rather than SIN) - to no avail.

Ah the memories...I have caught this flight before in ?1996 I think to attend a wedding (AUD$840 return to KUL IIRC in Y:) ). It then went onto SIN, turned around back to KUL and then back to SYD.

It's a shame that QF don't fly to KUL anymore :( This usually means a transit in Sin for me now although MH still provides direct flights bet SYD and KUL. I would have thought that there would be a lot of traffic on this route but I suppose QF makes its passengers fly to SIN and then transfer for the short MH flight to KUL:(

My first flight overseas and my first ever flight with Qantas was Mel Kul in the early seventies on a boeing 707....suddenly I feel I'm gettin old

I think that this route also went on to AMS after ATH. The full route was SYD-KUL-ATH-AMS.

Anyone have any memeries of this route? Any idea on where I can find history of QF routes?

Theres a book produced by QANTAS for their 75th birthday which listed all their routes.

I don't think it is in print any more but the last time I was in the Presidents Suite at the Sheraton Brisbane (the weekend before it became the Sofitel) it was in the room.
