How should AFF receive new poster "rants"......

However the discussion continued on about the OP not posting that para as he had not reported that correctly, even after Virgin changed their position and refunded (exonerated?) him.

This is completely irrelevant to the issue at hand. You and others need to drop this straw man. Virgin could have taken out a double-page newspaper spread and TV adverts during Masterchef apologising to Dr Paris for stealing his entire life savings and it would still be completely irrelevant to the issue at hand.

The OP deliberately obscured information. He was politely asked for that information. Other members chose to attack the request for information rather than the initial lack of it.

That is all.

Just like the missing paragraph is a straw man!

There is a tendency on AFF to attack the credibility of new members that post rants. I’ve experienced that first hand but I have thick skin. It’s ok to disagree with a rant as long as it’s done in a polite way, especially when engaging with new members who are not yet familiar with the dynamic of this forum.

Boomy, perhaps part of this negative experience is perceived rather than real? What I mean is that, what is being felt as an "attack on credibility" is actually just people asking for more detail? As I posted upthread, people who read such posts want to understand what exactly a situation is, and almost invariably in such threads, the OP has not included much detail due to inexperience in the forum, or also very often has been deliberately selective in the story.

At the end of the day, even if "questions" are just seeking info, and not attacks, if they make the new poster feel attacked, that is a true negative anyway.

Juddles, you started this thread about newcomers, rants and how they should be 'received' by AFF. Good stuff. I gave an answer early on but you don't seem to like the answer. You seem a bit obsessed about the 'Virgin thread' and the 'lie' bit - you keep going back to it time and again. This thread will remain in the same rut unless you can move on from that other thread - your thread here is about a newcomer having a rant.

Perhaps you can give your answer to your own question. If you are admitted to a new social circle, and, having observed others doing it, end up having a bit of a whinge or rant, how would you like to be received by your new circle? I would hope you would be received with good grace and tolerance no matter what any faux pas you may commit along the way (but then correct), but maybe you'd appreciate being denounced, repeatedly, for it afterwards?

BTW there had been input by Admin, but you have to look for it.

Because the detail in the missing paragraph was wrong anyway.

Again you miss the point. Something I suspect you and others do deliberately because of your hatred for the airline in question.

Anyway I'm done, this is a pointless argument. The ulterior motives of you and others make it a waste of time.

I guess it depends on which point you think is THE POINT. My focus was and is, were the charges correct? and 2; if they did a chargeback what was a possible outcome. Funny about that, as those were the 2 queries the OP raised in their very first post.

WOW ...
now in questions, we have a headline " laptop stolen at BNE INT" from a 1 post wonder......

Read the details it was "forgotten" at security a few days back and now complain no reply for a day or 2 via email ..

Grabbing the popcorn for this one

Coming in late as usual, but I've had this experience as well: years ago, I posted an ill-considered rant about a QF flight I took, and the main thrust of it was how disappointed I was with the changes to their product since my last flight, but I was mostly disparaged along the lines of "well you were in Y, and you are NB, what did you expect?" and only one or two people made constructive criticism which I acknowledged was useful and I now recognise that I was angry when I wrote the post, it was too long and conflated too many different things. However, the whole experience would have been a lot more useful to me if all those people who disparaged my post had maybe refrained, and I was just given the helpful criticism.

Still, since it wasn't my first experience on AFF, I stuck around, but I admit I did not post for a while because of how bullied I felt at the time. But I'm a sporadic reader and poster here anyway, so it's likely no-one noticed that.

Who will be the first to state that the item wasn't 'stolen'?
This is the perfect example of the attitude we're talking about here.

We immediately assume the post is wrong because it's someone we have not seen before, and we cannot comprehend how it could be "stolen".

You and I weren't there so I curious how we so quickly came to the conclusion it wasn't stolen??

Ah, I think you'll find that there is a bit of facetiousness in Dr Ralph's post (at least that's how i read it) ... The one a couple above it I'm not so sure about. It may be the one which is more illustrative of some prevailing attitudes, but I stand to be corrected.

... but while I'm at it, let me ask - how, after one's first post on AFF, does one avoid being described as a 'one post wonder'? :(

Why the " " around the word forgotten ? Do you disbelieve it; if so, why, please?

(But if its a piss-take, well done, but can you clarify , please?)

Well done juddles. You and rooflyer on the same page for that one.

Limited detail , but stolen seems a reasonable possibility assuming the op has had some stuff happening that may be linked to the laptop.
Seems to me that some folks are getting very pernickety about a form of words.

Perhaps there needs to be a compulsory short course in acceptable language format for new members,
They could also be directed to the grammar thread in an effort to ensure correct grammatical structure is used.
Perhaps a short examination, testing the applicants capacity for precise language could be a part of the entry requirements for the list.

Otoh.. folks might say.. +&73!!! and go somewhere less picky…..

Here's a good chance to see what happens with a new member:

Laptop stolen at BNE Int.

Who will be the first to state that the item wasn't 'stolen'?

I called it before you even posted ....

Clickbait headline, then you read the details they forgot it at security ...... Stolen at security to me would indicate it disappeared in the time between loading your items into the tray walking thru and then have it missing when you collected everything on the other side.

Attacks not limited to new members. I can understand how some feel they are bullied.
