How to change your seat on an AA flight bought on Qantas.com (Advice)

Yes, and the call centre cannot do it either. I think its been "enhanced" away.
Have you tried rj.com with the QF PNR to see if that lets you select seats?

Probably a good idea to check there if your QFF details are in correctly.

Booking doesn’t load in RJ
Definitely correct as the booking shows on my QF account

I have a booked flight in July. It is AA ticketed operated by Qantas.

No problems in selecting seats at all. Literally checked it again. The seat map is visible.

The seat map is visible but what happens when you select a seat? It doesn’t hold in the system.

I'm QF gold and booked in business on all legs.
If I try the QF PNR code on the QF website, the seat map appears and it will let me select seats for QF leg 1&4, say it's not available for AA legs 2 & 3 (which is fine as they are selected) and when I click confirm/accept it will take me back to the start to select seats in an endless loop but never confirm.
I have tried the QF and AA PNR on RJ website an it won't find the booking.

After emailing and calling them, for anyone with the same issue...... the final and non negotiable word from Qantas is that you're going to have to wait until check in or at the airport. Even though these flights are 5 months away there's "nothing they can do" and that is due to it being a codeshare. The. End.

This is an old thread on FT but it talks about multiple QF “ghost” PNRs on AA bookings that have transpac codeshare and QF domestic flights. One PNR allows domestic leg seat selection and the other gives access to seats on the longhaul.

I have no idea if this is still the case but something to explore?

There’s another thread that suggests that this is an AA issue, as they control seat selection based on status etc….

UPDATE: Hallelujah!!! I called American Airlines to check PNR numbers. They were correct for AA & Qantas, and there were no such "Ghost" PNR numbers as mentioned in old posts. The AA call centre guy seemed puzzled that Qantas weren't able to do it. He tried an "Internal tool" (his words, and not the QF website after I asked) that let him select the seats and it was accepted. He did say they often get error messages when doing it but it worked and I'm very happy.
Still, bizarre service from QF

Glad you got it sorted. Can you now see (and in theory) select other seats? (Maybe best not to for now).

See my previous comment above. AA are marketing the flight and therefore have some skin in the game on who and how pax can select seats.

I can’t say I’ve had these sort of issues on BA, AY, JL codeshares etc.

Following you, i contacted AA on twitter and they were able to select a seat on the transpac sectors! Very strange.

Hi, can iIask when your flights are? I've got the same issue, booked with AA SYD to BOS via LAX. Syd to LA is Qantas operated. Not flying til August but there are 3 of us so want to be sitting together. Contacted AA in their chat but she said they cant see the seat map for the flight yet. So I was wondering how far out you are from flying? Thanks!

My flights are in September - I assume you can load the booking using the Qantas PNR on the Qantas website and see the seat map for this flight? But your seat selections never save? If you can see it it's strange that AA can't see it. It took me 2 attempts to find someone on their chat that could make the change. I said something like "I believe you have an internal tool that you can use to select seats on the QF operated flights on my behalf".

Off topic but related to these bookings, so hoping for a quick answer - can you add QF lounge passes on an AA ticket flying QF metal?

I've a friend flying what seems a torturous SYD-LAX-PHL-BCN in a couple of months, looking to gift a lounge pass to ease the pain

Flights are June/July. Try calling them?

hmm interesting yours are later. I can bring up my booking, but when I go to select seats for that leg, it just takes me to the seat preference page, it doesn't bring up the seat map. Do you have status with Qantas? I'm lowly Bronze so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I’m gold QF, I could load the seat maps for all the legs but they would never save the QF legs and it would just take me back to the start of selection in a never ending loop.
