How To Search For oneworld Award Availability

Thanks. This really is a great help.I had given up on BA because of the address issue but I feel like I am going to be a new BA executive Club member from Manhattan now just to do searches.
I am sure my neice wont steal my card!

Last night I turned French and signed up. But in any case it doesn't look like they send you a card until you have earned 250 Avios, so unless you start crediting to BA your neice will be none the wiser.

In this case, it probably doesn't help too much. Your last statement is correct, and this is advice is probably more suited for those in AA or US, where bookings on many oneworld partners must be done on the phone rather than online.

For using QF points, it probably doesn't help much to use other tools apart from QF to check for availability. If you can't see the availability on QF and you really want a particular seat, if you are a Platinum it may be worth calling the Premium line to see if they can find any seats not shown online, or otherwise request to open a seat for you.

Ah, thanks, that makes sense. I do have a big pile of AA/USAIR points as well so I can see how the searching other websites could help with the phone bookings.

I have signed for BA Executive club’s step brother/step sister Iberia Plus. Zero address issues. Have yet to see if I can search as for award availability. Some on FT say IB avois can be a better value (not that I have any).

Avios can be outstanding value. SYD/MEL-PER is 20,000 avios plus about GBP 20 (~$35) in Business one way. Even better value in the US.

The easiest way to sign up for BA is just use your Australian address, but change the country to Austria. This works as long as you don't want status (where you need the card).

done, thanks

Excellent post, thank you very much for all the work put into it.
Has anyone ever used JMB to redeem awards? If so, how do they stack up against other FF programmes in terms of earn, burn, fuel fines and availability? Is there any way to direct my Australian Amex MR points (eg via SPG)?
I have family in Japan, so looks like I now share their address...
Have also joined Aadvantage, just have to add BA to the collection now.
Looks like the marriage to QFF is over.

Great post. I'm just learning the art of frequent flying and this is exactly what I needed. I've just signed myself up to all of the frequent flyer clubs mentioned and tried some dummy booking for J class tix to Europe from Sydney in Sep. It seems I couldn't get any seats in J class in Sep with any airline at all. Am I missing something or are seats in Sep all booked up? I'm interested as I'm considering taking up the US dividend miles bonus sale at the moment.

Near nil availability in premium classes in September wouldn't entirely surprise me. I'm not at a computer right now so can't check on your claims...

Ive just had a quick look at SYD-LHR in September. There is only one day in September when there are J savers awards available for outbound flights - 08 Sep. Nothing inbound
however, as strange as it is, there's quite a lot in F for both outbound and inbound
And this is just one search on AA, I haven't look at MH via BA Executive Club, I'm sure there will be something via KL
whereabouts in Europe are you going

anat01, thanks for taking to time to compile and post the summary - it is a great source of information, and will be very useful to myself and many other members. :)

Thanks for looking. I just tried AA again and it did work. However, I can't seem to find anything via BA Avios search tool. I'm following the instruction on this post to click for no stopover when I'm trying to book Syd to LHR, should I choose a stopover in my booking process? Also, is there a way to pick airline I want BA search tool to focus on?? I was thinking of MH too. In terms of european destination, happy for any of the major cities, I can get around easily thereafter.

no you shouldn't choose the stopover option
there is no way to pick an airline, BA EC will display what is available based on the origin and destination you choose
look, I've just run a search on MEL-CDG return in September and there is availability out of MEL on 07 Sept and to come back on 28 September. The return flight goes via LHR so I guess you can do an open jaw if you are not afraid of being hit by the Heathrow departure tax
it has taken me 30 seconds
with you having so many options Im sure you can construct your itinerary in 20 min if you follow the instructions

Thanks for this. I would like to say that AFF is one of the best travelling websites I've come across and all of the members here are super helpful. I hope the karma is returned to you guys:)
With regards to search results on BA tool, does it only show the date of request or can it be tweeked so that it shows all available flights in the week/month?
What is the number for Oz residents for US airways award reservations? I vaguely came across this of late but can't seem to find it now...

If I find availability on the Enrich website for award seats in J, am I correct to assume this will be available for other one world airlines wanting to book this? i.e. can I ring up US airways to book such a flight.

Also, what is the average taxes/surcharge for say Mel-CDG return via US airways award boooking? For Enrich, it is about $1k.
