How will international travel work with no COVID 19 vaccine

Note- they are all small thin people in the seats In the pictures. No fatties or muscle bound with shoulders that wouldn't fit in the plastic compartment around the middle seat .

My response was from a infection point of view. 1C has people going by all the time and for those in 2A and 2C, they would be in direct firing line from !B sneezing.

The whole concept is a bit silly.

Have just seen that Qld has reported two new cases today - both were acquired overseas. Quarantine isnt working is it - this also happened in SA earlier this week.

Something not quite right with our quarantine process.

How does someone travel on QF614 MEL-BNE on 22 April with Covid-19 acquired on a cruise ship? Shouldn't they have been in quarantine in MEL?

I am not a believer in magic cures.

Wasn't pennicilin an accidental discovery? A miracle? More like divine intervention.

One theory is that immunity will only last between 2 months to a year.

Another theory is that the virus has already mutated in some areas.

Then if there's a vaccine at some point in time is that vaccine going to be readily available and is it going to be affordable. I can see many poor countries without the ability to vaccinate. Africa, parts of Asia and South America without vaccine is not good for our survival.

And then we have the anti-vaxxers.

We do need a miracle otherwise the new normal is going to be unbearable.

They were quarantined. And had returned home. I don't think people are tested in eastern states prior to release and they had no symptoms. Sometimes it takes a week before Covid, if it's going to go bad, before symptoms kick in. In SA everyone is tested twice.

Confirming what we all (well most) already know. Some recent limits imposed on international travel for a long time yet.

Several Schengen countries have now restricted their borders for an extended period. Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Germany have extended restrictions till mid November; France to the end of October. Many restrictions refer to security, terrorism, or secondary movements.

Of course the link refers to intra-schengen movements across ‘internal borders’. There is a labyrinthine web of individual countries’ rules for would be visitors from non-Schengen.

British Columbia (where I now live, in Vancouver) published its "restart plan" yesterday. It is looking at a 4 stage phased "restart". Of note in Phase 4, which has no projected implementation date (unlike earlier phases which are either underway or, if things stay steady here, will be introduced progressively through to September), is this statement:

"Conditional on at least one of the following; wide vaccination, “community” immunity, broad successful treatments:

...

- International tourism"

I infer from that the Canadian international borders will remain closed for an ongoing and indefinite period.

I saw this on FT. I am glad I got used to economy (last J flight was in 2017) because the J class is basically just a bigger seat now.

I will be trying to get as many bucket list trips in after restrictions are lifted as possible before the crowds start coming back and make it worse. Can you imagine a typical wide-body check-in/bag drop line stretched out by social distancing? 40 second santizing sprays is ok, won't be worse than security screening.

Canada is taking an individual province by province approach - there's been very significant Covid-19 differences between each province. BC is one of the lucky ones. Ontario and Quebec, not so lucky.

I’m interested in how we will get travel insurance to cover at least for potential COVID-19 medical costs. That will be a huge factor in my future overseas travel decisions. I already have ski trip booked to Japan and home via Shanghai in late Jan/Feb 2021 but will likely cancel if I can’t get suitable insurance at an acceptable price.
My early October trip to Paris via Singapore and Helsinki will also either be cancelled by the airline or by me for the ‘landlocked’ continent argument you raise in your post. Feeling a bit down about it all.

Hi Ann, welcome to AFF. Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your grandchild.

Quite a few travel insurers have suspended sales of policies until there is further direction from the government on the resumption of international travel. At the moment, you can't travel internationally without an exemption from the Govt.

I do know of someone who had cover from Covermore for essential travel they undertook in April (with appropriate exemption from the Govt). It provided medical cover for coronavirus if required (it wasn't), but didn't provide any coverage for any other coronavirus-related claims. Having said that, it may only have been available due to the specific nature of his essential travel.

If it were me, I wouldn't be making any travel plans to the US for the foreseeable future. It's likely to be quite a while before the Govt remove the US from its "Do Not Travel" list.
