We've been forgotten! Perhaps they think the border is still closed.

Its because we have not banned Russians from our airspace, all the bans were reciprocal.

We don't have any flights from Russia so it would be a bit pointless other than symbolism

Private jets might be another story....

I note that Boeing has just banned the provision of spare parts to Russia (although there's no doubt plenty of ways around this from other maintenance organisations) and the US has banned Russian controlled/operated flights from their airspace effective tomorrow.

Do we know what reservation and departure control systems SU/S7 use? Imagine walking in to work and your airline has no reservation and departure control system, indefinitely. Unless they use local systems, shutting them out of Sabre/Amadeus etc would be pretty crippling.

They cancelled one day. They are flying again from Friday (at least to LHR) on the slightly longer route (+3 hours).

Another major consequence of this conflict is the rocketing oil price. If Russia's oil exports get halted watch the price soar.

Airlines will start parking older aircraft again. Higher airfares wont do anything to help kickstart travel post pandemic either.

Interesting to see what the flight paths are like when the bans are reversed - this is the aircraft that took the expelled diplomats from JFK back to Moscow (they had special permission from the US to fly - but as you can see did not overfly any land on the way back). (the white parts are outside radar range so are estimates - they did not overfly Iceland).

Obviously the bans to airspace only apply to sovereign airspace so they were free to fly through oceanic airspace even though it was controlled by Canada / Ireland etc. .
