OK guys front and back of passes I received with previous HSBC Card I had.

T & C's quite clear - I will get to use these 2 passes Dec 21 before flying out to Bali on Jetstar.

I will also be re-applying for this card before end Nov - had it earlier this year but cancelled it after pts banked and annual fee reversed and expended. Will let you know if am successful again.

Was the fee reversed on a pro-rata basis or did you specifically threaten to cancel unless they refund the fees?

I've got the points, sold the passes and now looking at a cancellation strategy :)

Threatened to cancel - 100% reversed - then spent it - then cancelled.

Presumably you have checked the small print of the offer on the QF website -

"HSBC Credit Card account holders who have previously cancelled their card may be ineligible for this promotional offer."

I had a read through this thread, and there was some talk about having both cards on pages 4 & 5. One guy said he's got both. However, I'm guessing there was a decent gap between both applications.

I also did the same, but the gap was about 2 years.

However, I've had real dificulty with the HSBC platinum card.
Applied 2 months ago, did all the ID checks.
First card went missing.
Second card arrived and was a non Qantas card.
Then, two weeks after activation of the 3rd, it still doesnt work :-(

To be honest I'm not sure if signing up to a card, getting the points, any other benefits and then cancelling is really in the spirit of things. Perhaps renewal refusals is the Karma coming back!
But yes I have churned cards myself but generally only after a year or two. This is the modern way of life. ANZ, Diners, NAB have all been and gone, Diners probably after the Ansett fiasco. Currently enjoying this HSBC card. It doesn't have the paywave on it. But there again I've made a decision recently to go away from credit cards to cash on small supermarket and retail purchases where most of these wave and pay points are. My credit cards are used for a combination of business and pleasure which means at the end of the month I have to break them down into what's been what. By reducing the number of transactions I'm hoping this will make that process easier. So at the moment I've gravitating from a Citi visa to HSBC and one other card. After being with Citibank since 1994 their recent changes, the end of the Citibusiness Gold card, etc, etc... enough is enough. It will be my pleasure to cancel this when the time is right or suits me. Or when a better offer comes along. As soon as the Citi gets to an even number of transferable points will transfer these out and then park the card.

Maybe you and I are possessed by different spirits?

Could well be! Digressing I wonder how much the credit card companies actually make from our purchases assuming we pay in time and don't incur any interest charges. ATO for example say about 0.47%. Wonder what Coles, Woolies are paying. Oh to be a credit card co with lots of customers who don't pay on time or don't pay the balance off each month. It must be very lucrative business.

But then, the CC companies/banks rely on lazy money: they make you a good offer, sign up lots of customers and then bit by bit whittle away the benefits and make a motza out of those who keep the card.

Why play by their rules? Take the benefits on offer and then dump the card at (or before) the first sign of "enhancement".

Remember, it is a game: play to win!

Your eyes are much better than mine. How about if you have a different type of HSBC card?
