hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

I totally forgot about this cc. I was looking at the anz or nab rewards cc to get velocity points but this looks a good alternative if I want to use them on SQ or virgin, etc. Plus I already have a decent aeroplan balance.
Absolutely nothing to lose! First year fee free, and 50k points worth $1000 if you had to buy them. Plus free star gold!

Trying to time by star gold for Europe next summer so hopefully they will extend offer.
I am looking at something similar, but from reading this thread I believe if you go through AC/Aeroplan (and keep the card open and pay annual fee again next year) you get 50K/*G status to the end of the calendar year in which your status expires - so should be end of 2025?

Received my CC today. So far, my travel plans for the next year are:
Mel - Europe on SQ J.
Europe - Mel on Qatar and QF.
Intra-Europe - a couple flights economy on Swiss and Austrian.

May do a flight to Singapore/SE Asia and within Australia on Virgin in the next 12 months.

Would you put status with AC, KF or other?

Many thanks.

Putting your status with Aeroplan (AC) will give you the 50k points. That’s worth $1000 in terms of buying points, and much more in terms of a redemption.

Crediting your points from flying is another matter… you can choose the program you want at the time. If you are close to an award on SQ because you already have a stash of points in krisflyer, then credit there, and redeem.

Otherwise Aeroplan is a good place.

Thanks for clarifying, I was under the impression the 50k was allocated to AC regardless of my choice. My bad, thank you!

I'm still awaitng for the bonus 50K points to be posted after selecting Aeroplan, but was wondering if I wanted to ask, should I be asking HSBC or Star Alliance?

It's been over 6 weeks now that I've hit the spend threshold, so just wanted to see who to chase/follow up with

I've got the HSBC Star Gold credit card and have aligned with Air Canada aeroplan. I signed up for the card in March 2024. I met the minimum spend to reach 50K status in April which will last the rest of this year and until the end of 2025.

I can't find a direct answer to this online but my question is regarding requalifying for status with the $60,000 spend. Through a combination of wedding, honeymoon and other expenses I think I will have met this spend soon also (but can pay with other means to not reach the $60,000 also).

If I meet this spend to requalify for Star Alliance Gold/Aeroplan 50K status will there be any benefit if I am already going to have 50K status until the end of next year?

Is there benefit if I hold of and wait for the $60,000 spend to be met at the start of next year.
This would be just before my 12 months of HSBC card ownership and into the 2nd calendar year of aeroplan 50K
Would it then re-trigger and give me status 2025 plus the following year (2026)?

Thanks :)

It’s still there are far as I can see? Showing an offer expiry date of 3 June 2024.
But there doesn't seem to be any mention of it on the HSBC page once you click through from AC. Not sure if there was before?

Given they (HSBC) are the ones actually providing the financial product, I am a bit concerned, as was planning on applying in the next week or so.

I didn’t realise it was posted to my Aeroplane account - posted on 1st May
I kept checking my star alliance account - my bad!

I don't think it was ever on the HSBC site
Would be great if someone could confirm this.

This is what I am worried about too.

Got approved on Momday and got an email form Star Alliance Rewards with an ID, asking me to register. It wont progress (says my ID doesn't exist) and the webform contact us doesn't work (as you need to select a sub category but none exists).

Has anyone else had this / solved it?

Yoy should Check Aeroplan website for the offer then click on the link but I don't think I clicked there. I just applied on HSBC website then once approved I got email from Star Alliance for ID to log in, once Logged in I selected Aeroplan as my preferred airlines. After qualified spending done received another email notified about qualifying for Aeroplan Gold after selecting period - about 3 or 4 weeks. Then after 6 to 8 weeks after I got 50K.
That's my journey. Applied abd approved around 1/2. Got 50K 1/5. Such a long process and waiting

Play around with your name. First Last only or First Middle Last name v.v. Or email Star Alliance. I found they pretty quick in responding

How long did you take to get approved?
