hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

Has anyone done the maths on this card for various ATO payment portals? I've got an eye watering bill to pay, trying to see where I'll get most bang for my buck.

Wish there was an easy way to see what my spend was already to see how close I am to 60k ....

Seeing that the offer is ending next monday, would you be eligible if you apply by 3rd June, but is approved after? I am thinking of cancelling my ANZ card tomorrow, then applying for this card right away. Would it be a good idea? Thanks

The terms do say you need to be approved, but I guess you could read the term either way!

Only Primary cardholders that apply and are approved for a new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card between September 25th 2023 to June 3 2024,

As the terms definitely say "approved", I would get the skates on! The application process is fraught... For me, the website threw errors on every page of the application (thankfully recoverable) and then timed out at the final step. The review team don't reliably look at the documentation you upload... Etc. YMMV

Are you able to see your points for individual transactions or do you just have to wait until the end of month to see what were eligible transations. Want to buy some gift cards for minimum spend but not sure how HSBC will code these
Just bumping this post. Anyone bought Woolworths gift cards and got points.

In terms of meeting the $60k, there should be a bar on your statement showing where you are up to for silver and gold, check the last page. For us this total seemed to include more expenses than were eligible for the initial spend requirement, including the 6 month interest free purchases from Star Alliance partners.

Hey brains trust, TIA for your advice: I already have KFG (another 10 months remaining). I also applied for and got this card approved. Not sure whether I should go for KF (which means, I will get KFG for one more year, but will end up paying the $450 annual fee for the card). If I go for AirCanada, then I will get *AG until December 2025 AND 50000 aeroplan points. If I decline the *AG and choose KF (as I have KFG on it), *A is offering 40, 000 bonus *A points which will equate to 32, 000 KF miles which is not bad, as I have a few trips planned for the next 12 months and will get my KFG renewed. Am really not sure what to do! 95% of my travel is on SQ.

If you already have status you don't get it renewed you only get the points with KF.

Anyone else been told they are conditionally approved pending provision of payslips/etc and completing ID verification at local branch, only to then be told the application is unsuccessful once both of those tasks are completed?

Seems a bit disingenuous at best.

Unless the payslips said something other than on the application, that stinks.

"Conditionally approved" is simply standard bank terminology. It means that the basic criteria were fulfilled (i.e. your claimed income is ok, your claimed debts align with your credit record, your credit record contains no dealbreakers). It does not mean you've been approved. Whatever actual documents you supply thereafter are the determinants of acceptance/rejection. (The "conditional" does not relate to the provision of documents but to the acceptability of the data within.)

Sure, but the provided additional documents match the information given in the initial application, which has now been rejected and they can't give any explanation. (FWIW it was literally just payslips that they asked for.)

Yes, i have that from Cba and St George before, and yes all my support documents matches what I declare in income section.

Oh that's a pity:( If the application form asked you for after-tax income as well as gross, maybe there was some sort of discrepancy there? I'm still in the processing stage myself, and have had to upload my bank statements three times so far because they clearly aren't checking the previously uploaded docs properly.

FYI, It cost less Aeroplan points for Singapore flights than redeem by Singapore points.

Oh you're so right, thank you! That's very clear.

Shows how often I look at my statements .......
