hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

Got the 50k bonus points also. Now I have to figure out what to do with the points as I am new to Aeroplan

Achieved minimum spend a few days ago and received confirmation email today prompting me to select an SA member. I'm very likely to go for AC/Aeroplan due to the 50K points offer but curious to know if VA benefits for Aeroplan Gold members are the same as SA/UA.
I've seen in a few places that all 3 allow VA lounge access but only see mention of other benefits (priority boarding etc) as being available to SA/UA - anyone know if this is correct?

Hi all. Aeroplan cut it fine with the deadline but I can confirm I received my 50k within 8 weeks (52 days to be precise).
Starting to panick now, got Aeroplan 50k status on 25 November and here I am 10 weeks later with nothing :(

I did reach out to Aeroplan on Facebook messenger and got a generic response saying I should contact HSBC, but this promotion actually has nothing to do with HSBC as the bonus 50,000 points is awarded by Aeroplan not HSBC. Given Aeroplan already gave me 50k status, not sure what the issue is. I will wait it out another week but I might need to brave the Aeroplan call centre waiting times ...

I'm in the same boat. Got the status on 29 Nov (according to the star alliance rewards email) and still nothing. Let me know how you get on or if they eventually do come

Apologies if you’ve already answered this, but with status granted in November, what’s the expiry date?

anyone tried pooling?
"The ability to create a new Family Sharing account is currently unavailable, including by telephone with an Aeroplan representative. This is temporary and does not affect existing Family Sharing accounts, including the ability to add and remove members."

Got the status on 29 Nov
Got my email 11 Dec.

My points posted overnight, with a narrative "earned on December 10", so almost bang on 8 weeks after getting status, the points posted.
anyone tried pooling
Yes, but it failed as expected. I certainly hope that it is working by the time I am ready to merge the 50,000 points from Mrs BJReplay's little points earning exercise. I expect that we will have between 140,000 and 170,000 points by the time we have to decide how many card accounts to close 🤣

As I mentioned earlier int his thread, I met the minimum spend in January 2023 and went with Aeroplan 50K. The physical card sent to me shows a 12/23 expiry but online always showed a 12/24 expiry. Today, both the app and online are showing a 12/25 expiry. I didn't come close to meeting the ridiculous $60K spend last year and my annual fee isn't due for about 10 days.

I've now received my new Aeroplan card showing a 12/24 expiry. The app still shows 12/25 expiry.

I finally got my points posted overnight, which seems to align with your timing but is out of whack with the timing of some of the others here. Better late than never !
Thanks for the update - just checked mine too and they've come through as well. Glad that sorted itself out

Just wondering if anyone's managed to use their HSBC Star Alliance card with ZipPay? More specifically, does HSBC treat ZipPay repayments as cash advances or regular transactions? Am looking to utilise ZipPay to pay bills via BPay then pay the ZipPay balance with my HSBC card to earn points

Thanks for the updates. Just confirming, for the people who have received their Aeroplan bonus points. That they came through without transferring your HSBC star alliance points to Aeroplan?
