I don't think the coughter is necessary since everyone is just directed to email anyway. Judging by recent posts it sounds like they're working through a very large backlog.

Burnt (& confirmed use) first DSU (Diamond Suite Upgrade) for 2 nights in Perth for next November

Note these may take a day or so to show up even though your account shows as Diamond. Also, those granted with this need to be burned by Feb 29th 2016. Four more should appear next year.

Not entirely correct. They only need to be assigned by 29 February; they can be put towards stays after that date. However, if you make a change to such a reservation after 29 February then you will more than likely lose the suite upgrade.

I've never really looked at the Hyatt program so I think I have a little research to do.

Neither have I. It's a whole new exciting world to discover.

I'm at a loss as to how I should use my suite upgrades.

Good to know you get an extra 4 next year, but I'd like to not waste these!

Think I might use one for a Christmas treat at Grand Hyatt in MEL.

FWIW - I've just been booking rooms for Paris early January - this is PH rate, starting at the cheapest rooms.
