IMO, any country that allows an abuse of human rights such as the jailing of a rape victim and only detaining the perpetrators for 12 months shouldn't be allowed to operate an international airport and should be subject to heavy trade sanctions by the UN and liberal countries like Australia.

I said "if" it was in a social setting with a workmate. And being in a nightclub does not excuse you from a criminal charge of sexual assault if it can be proven that you inappropriately touched someone and they chose to report it to police.

The guides on our tours in Dubai frequently mentioned that GDP was becoming less reliant on oil, but its still important, especially if someone needs to pick up the tab for the Burj Khalifa .

I was going off a tour I did of Dubai quite a few years ago which stated that Dubai oil reserves would run out in 2006. I was probably mistaken with respect to UAE vs Dubai and I should have said Dubai instead of UAE. They said at the time that there was no hope of finding additional reserves which is why Dubai was changing from an oil based economy to a trading based economy - they wanted to become the "Hong Kong of the Middle East".

As to the claim that Singapore is as bad as the UAE-rubbish.

Indeed, it would have been slightly embarassing for Emirates to not let the CEO of Qantas, an airline they've just signed up a partnership with, into Dubai on the basis of him being gay.
