what meals did they serve you?from the amount of bottles that you given out, their profits from these aged wines would be huge!

They provide a credit for me to use against whatever purchase I want. I tell them how much I want for the wine. They have never tried to negotiate a lesser amount. For me its always been about disposing of the wine, rather than making a profit.

i know making profits wasn't your intention from the beginning, i was just wondering what sort of meals you are getting in return. This might be something i think about later on instead of putting my wines in auctions.

If I can get my cellar down to under 1000 bottles this is something I may give more thought to.

UPDATE: Was in the US for 7 weeks

...

Now it's back to the US for 45 more days.

Hello FBT :o :o

What restaurants are these? (PM if you want to be discreet).

Given the prices you are selling to them at, it is likely their markup isn't too stupid, so they may represent some of the best value dining around!

Restaurants have all asked that I do not name them.

But a reasonable request in the circumstances penegal. Privacy concerns I can understand - lest others become disgruntled and a precedence set. Well done with the swaps and your internal fortitude for not buying Dr Ralph. How did you not drink some Napa Valley reds when you were there :o

Just back from three months in US/Canada. Have accumulated during that time orders from restaurants for around 700 bottles. Will get to sorting out the cellar in the next week or so and supplying the orders.

But so far this has been a great year in terms of reducing the cellar. Being overseas for around 4 months in total has meant buying is a lot more difficult! It has been challenging watching some of the great deals whilst I have been away though!

Had some great wine in the US/Canada but in the end only bought one bottle of ice wine back with me from a visit to Inniskillin.

How did you not drink some Napa Valley reds when you were there

Drank some on the second leg of my trip :) And also some great Canadian wines including varities I'd never had before including a Baco Noir (Baco Noir Speck Family Reserve VQA by Henry Of Pelham 2016)

thanks Dr. , will try to found some here, i have no idea there's a sparkling version of it!

Good luck with the self imposed Ban Wozza. I know I wasn't able to achieve this.

Well, I got there!

My 3.5 months are up. And I don't feel the urge to splash the cash and head back to my old buying habits. Praise God.

For those still looking to rein in their buying, here's what worked for me:
  • unsubscribe to the Dan's and Vinomofo threads
  • unsubscribe to all wine selling emails that you get
  • drink what I had in my collection
  • (and in my case, get removed from my lovely wine sharing group's *dangerously tempting*! emails).
It wasn't that hard in the end. Especially, as I had no idea what I was missing out on.

So, the key:
  • Just stop reading those buy-me-now emails and look-what-a-great-deal-that's-just-come-in threads.
  • And, most importantly, enjoy what you've already got.
Best of luck to all those still trying to cut down their wine buying.

Warm wishes,

Wozza

Visited one of the restaurants I had supplied tonight from previous sales. Saw a number of the bottles I had supplied them on a large table with many guests. Turns out that the owner of the restaurant was celebrating the engagement of their daughter and had brought out my wines to impress the prospective grooms family :)

A very large number of guests were extremely impressed with the wine on offer!

Owner said I should not sell to anyone else and they would buy anything I had on offer at any stage.

Seems my problems may be solved!

I did have a flurry of purchases at the end of 2017. Drank some quality wines during the Christmas/New Years period. I can also report that thus far in 2018 I am yet to purchase even a single bottle of wine. I'll be delighted if this new trend continues :)

You made it 11 days... Will you make it to number 12?

I stopped buying wine on 1st December. Partly due to an unforseen home expense, and partly to make sure I could! I'm hoping to make it for 6 months. My only planned purchase is from the Tyrrells Private Bin releases.

I unsubscribed from all the lists and am not checking this forum so often. It hasn't been as hard as I thought honestly.

I’m not sure if this counts but I have been stopped buying high rating/review wines for over 6 months besides the ones from mailing/club list. Tyrrell’s , sami odi,Marius ,wendouree and noon. Plus some Italian from overseas trip. My total spending in 2017 was less than $5K. Which is a lot less than 2016
