Ideas for AFF Gathering #7

Longreach gets my vote.

Qantas Founders Museum, Stockman's Hall of fame and .... well, there's plenty of time for eating and drinking :)

Whilst Longreach would be different, its going to pose difficulties in two areas:

1. There is one flight a day up at around 8 each morning and back at 4 in the afternoon both Friday and on the weekends
2. Yield control will love 25 or so folks on the one plane, so the current $188 each way will look cheap once a few book.

For the record, in order, AFF Gatherings have been at:

#1 MEL
#2 ADL
#3 SYD
#4 BNE
#5 CBR
#6 OOL

I think two were in the one year (MEL/ADL?) but apart from that they have been annual events.

Whilst I posted that I wouldn't mind CNS as a venue (have never been there), the fact QLD has had 2 of the last 3 may mean we should look elsewhere.

Hobart is my preference.

Would rather not go to some hick town in the middle of QLD with a QF museum its only drawcard. If, however, it was a VA museum - I could be convinced :P But alas...... civilisation would be nice.
So a hick town in Tas over a hick town in Qld.

Interesting.

I'm batting at 0.5

Barossa would be good.

Longreach would also be good for a weekend but flights are limited

Good thing we now have high level contacts at QF ;)

Oh I don't know about that :p

I recall at the end of OzFest #7 to ADL I flew back via SYD with some Aussies from FT who expressed a desire to do a Do in either the Barossa or McLaren Vale. So that could be a possibility, and would be flying into ADL I imagine. I'm also for HBA as it's different, and LRE, but the latter could also be a separate Do if it makes more sense.

If we did re-do an old spot, I'd prefer MEL.

Dunno if I want to see PER, plus as raised already that's the next OzFest location and as many members do both, might not be practical.

BTW, I've been to 4 AFF Gathers! :)

I have been to 5, ;)

Oz_mark has been to all 6.

I think it should be held in Queensland so Sam can organise next years as well.

To be fair, AFF 2 in ADL was quite small. The group enjoyed McLaren Vale during that Gathering.

There's a good case to recommend ADL again by virtue that hopefully we'll have a higher crowd there to actually do justice to say we had an AFF Do there.

That said, it'll be interesting to see if we can get company reps to ADL, since it's a non-trivial cost and 2 hr flight from SYD. But it'd be cool to have, say, Red Roo joining us on a road trip through Barossa Valley. Besides, besides Yarra Valley and the Riverina, a lot of Qantas' cellar is from SA and Barossa, plus Maggie Beer is also in the same area.

Also, the big key for ADL is we need a local champion to help with organisation.....

Remember there are other airlines to get get reps from.

My choices would be

Sunshine Coast
Newcastle/Hunter Valley

I think both are quite good and the main capitals have been done to death.

Cairns

would also be a nice place to visit again.

I see a few people are quite keen but count me out if the focus of the next AFF Gathering is on wines/wineries.
