With Platinum Ambassador - how do free nights get claimed?

If you refer to the free weekend night (or buy one weekend night, get the second free)

You need to go to: intercontinental.com/AMBWeekend, sign in, choose the hotel, then go to the booking page. The rate will be shown as Ambassador Certificate.

When you book, it will show the price for both nights. The hotel removes the second night charge when you hand the certificate over at check-in.

What certificate? Does it allegedly come in the box (I may have already thrown away)?

Gee, thanks oz_mark. That inspires confidence !!

From what I gather from other forums, fulfillment of the kit is not a strong point - they seem to go missing. They're in the process of sending my renewal kit a second time to me.

Well, low and behold ... I actually got mine today. talk about a 'box of trix' !! More cardboard than paper ...

Yes, you could easily throw away the box WITH the cert. intact.

My 5,000 points credited straight away. That's good. The Membership ( Gold ) card looks nice, and the jazzy little luggage tag is 'cute' as well.

Now just have to wait for RA kit to turn up. ( status upgraded yesterday as well - oddly, about 24 hrs. after sending them an email )

If it turns up at all.....

I hope you are kidding there oz_mark. I have joined to take advantage of the free room upgrade on my next holiday in July/August - staying at 3 IC's. I would be embarrassed if the pack and card doesn't arrive and I'm resorting to the print out card that was emailed upon joining!

I've had two packs not show up over the years, requiring a follow up with the Ambassador desk to get another sent out (the first they'll send normal mail, the second they'll courier to you).

This years renewal kit has gone AWOL. There is another on its way to me.

Reading some forums suggests they have a habit of not tuning up.

I has my Ambassador pack delivered yesterday. So glad I have the actual card to present when I check into the IC hotels in July.

A quick question, I had a Ambassador challenge last year which was 3 nights at 2 different IC to get a free Ambassador status, and there is a renewal due in June.
What do I have to do for a complementary renewal? Or just wait past the renewal date to see?
I do about 25-30+ nights a year.
I'd love to know how to get a Royal Ambassador status this year...

Cheers.

You need to pay for the renewal, to be an RA requires at least 20 nights in an IC and 70+ nights overall based on feedback from members, the actual criteria is never revealed.

You can renew Ambassador with points. 20,000 IIRC. There is an email or letter as you get close to expiry.

I was recently in HK Intercontinental and had the problem you described with the Family and Friends rate. I am also an Ambassador Club member and when I enquired on arrival about the room upgrade, I was advised that it didn't apply to the F&F booking rate. I expressed my dissatisfaction and requested to speak to the Manager because the Ambassador Club site does not mention any specific exclusions at all, and I didn't see any on the F&F booking site either.

Ultimately the Manager arranged for a complimentary upgrade, however I was told that this was a once-off and usually they do not apply the upgrade to the F&F rate.

This was about a month or two ago, and I have been meaning to discuss this with the Ambassador Club since I arrived back so that they could provide me some clarification. I would love to hear from anyone else with similar experiences (or if I missed something on the T&C's)

Just to get a feel what people chase when staying at IC. Points or miles? I'm questioning airmiles (in general) at the moment but my free nights from points are coming courtesy of the non-IC stays in IHG properties. Miles being related to $$$ spend seem to equal better value, especially when I've checked out of an IC with only 2k or 3k points.

Cheers.

Just a quick note, I got the free upgrades at all IC hotels in French Polynesia. I got a double upgrade in Moorea and a fantastic upgrade at the Thalasso resort in Bora Bora, one level up to a diamond overwater bungalow worth an extra $200 per night. The Ambassador membership paid itself off in one night alone at the Thalasso, let alone the 7 nights we stayed at that resort alone.

I hope it's OK to place this question here, on this thread ...

I paid for AMB Membership in early April 12, and got the Gold AMB card delivered.

I then 'acquired' a referral for RA membership, which came through in May 12.

My RA Member card states an expiry of May 13.

My online IHG account states 'Ambassador' expiry in 35 days - which basically means 30th. April 13 ?

So, the questions are:

Does my RA expire end May or April 13 ?

If I make an IC booking for May 13, will I still get RA privileges ?

Would I need to pay the renewal for AMB Membership for April 13 - April 14, in order to retain the RA privileges until end May 13 ?

or, am I only going to get comp. AMB for the next twelve months, and the RA will expire at end April 13 - even though the physical RA card has an expiry of May 13 ?

Thanks in advance for any long and complicated responses ...

Sent an email to Ambassador Service Centre - no response as yet.

Spoke to 'Manila' on the phone - they reckon, if card states 'May', it means card expires 1st. May !!

Can anybody else say, what the expiry of their card means - 1st. or last day of month ??
