IHG Hotels that recognise status

Interesting, isn't the upgrade "guaranteed"?
It is! I even tried to request for upgrade early but they said you can only ask for upgrade on the day. However, the whole place is booked out. Hence, there is no availability to upgrade...There is that tiny text at the end (depends on availability).

In that case, i believe you are owed USD$50 or 10,000 IHG points per the "Benefits Guarantee":

Booked intercontinental sanctuary cove six months early for this easter weekend
Three night stay ambassador BOGO certificate. Booked club marina. Upgraded to suite. Two weeks before my guaranteed ambassador upgrade disappeared. On enquire told sorry full. I explained I’d booked six months ago not last minute. Offered points and a credit. It was a lovely place but don’t think I would book again due to not honouring the upgrade.

Hotel: Hotel Indigo Durham
Status: Platinum
Rate: AAA
Booked: King Standard Room
Received: Superior King Room (alas no Cathedral view - but good view from the car park 😀).
Status recognition: Points or drink voucher (received 2x vouchers with pretty much an open bar selection!).

First time in an Indigo property. This one is a repurposed late Victorian era Town Hall building. Allocated room was definitely one of the larger non-suite rooms with seperate entrance vestibule. The corner room is directly behind the “Hotel Indigo” sign in the pic below with windows either side.

The restaurant is a Marco Pierre-White steak joint.

Holiday Inn Lisbon - Continental (Platinum status)

Upgraded to a suite at check-in and offered a welcome drink/points.
I asked for a late checkout at 2pm and was offered 3pm.

Great room and service. Very happy with this hotel.

Edit: For some reason, also got the bonus points credited (in addition to the drink voucher).

I've just stayed at a couple of different Holiday Inn Express & Suites properties in Canada and was given points as the welcome amenity but not offered a drink or anything else. Also no room upgrades given.

I'm not sure the Adelaide property even has "real" upgrade options at all - I don't think the property has suites as other Holiday Inn Express properties are marketed as "and Suites" (Sunshine Coast and Queenstown) and this one isn't. Not complaining about the 8th floor corner room though, it's nice enough. I should know better but definitely skip the buffet breakfast, which is pretty dire.

I stayed at the HIE Southbank last year and received points and a drink voucher. Yet the new HIE Melbourne (near Southern Cross) only did points. They said they didn’t have the amenity vouchers. How hard could that be?

The HIE Newcastle (which I'm quite a fan of) has always acknowledged & awarded amenity points as spire; never had snacks or drinks. After the recent program changes will be interesting to see; given the express start breakfast is included with all rates (and is very decent vs my experience with other HIEs).

Interesting, thinking of choosing between the kimpton and one of the ICs for a longer redemption stay in October, was keen for a bigger breakfast - what would you recommend?
