How did you install the app?

I only need to make 4 bookings with the app and this promotion is a shoe in with no real extra to cost to me as I am already doing the travel.

I am just being cautious about the need to be texted a link. What is it going to cost and if it costs anything then it's not free is it?

oh I totally understand your reluctance with the text thing, having just become a victim of this insidious airG cough that I am fighting (random text arrives telling me I've been signed up to this "VIP" service a $0.95/day which I did NOT ask for nor want, called the number right back to get off it, after waiting forever on hold with an Indian call centre got assured I wouldn't be charged, but hey presto, at least $0.95 so far on my bill... but I digress)..

Anyway all you need to do on Android, is go to Google Play on your phone/tablet(whatever), access search, put up IHG and search, it comes up as the official app to download. The only charge wold be in terms of mobile (or wifi) data used to download it. Nothing else.

I did not quite think of that angle. Automatically sign you up to services where you have opt to out but never requested in the first place. That is a joke. This should be banned now.

I was more worried about ridiculous one time charges I have heard about. I am on Virgin mobile and I have no idea what is going to happen if I use a premium text service. 1 800 numbers are a classic example of this rort.

No the IHG app is nothing like this at all. It's just like the SPG or QANTAS apps - nothing extra going on :)

If you open the IHG webpage above, you should see a Googleplay icon. Click it, it will take you directly to the app and will allow you to install. Below should work also:
You are of course assuming I have used Google Play or even know about it.

I do not have any apps. I was hoping never to have to need to use an app. This is not user friendly. I am going around and around in circles trying to use Google Play. I just want yo make 4 bookings using the stupid IHG app for ~80,000 points and not use it again.

oh. I apologise John. You mentioned a Samsung phone and I presumed it was a smartphone (they are all full of apps one way or the other, eg: goole play/"play store" etc is an app). I'm not sure what to suggest.

I think you'll find it is a smartphone!

It is a Samsung smartphone. I have never downloaded an app.

Every time I go into Google Play there's a disc in the middle that just keeps spinning. I can't use Google Play now. No idea why. This is not user friendly as there are no error messages.

OK John I understand ore now. Perhaps your phone needs some updates or some processes are not running for some reason (sorry if this is a bit technical). Have you hooked the phone up to a PC via USB cable and run the "Kies" software to connect to the phone and download updates and stuff? Alternatively this youtube MAY contain a partial solution for you (or not): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDhVxtBtsdc

it may even be as simple as restarting your phone fully.

I'm sorry you're having such trouble with it. what exact model phone do you have?

good luck!

Thanks Richard.

I was on the BNE airtrain when I was trying to get Google Play to work. When I got to apartment I restarted my Samsung Galaxy S3 and when I went to Google play it was working and the link to install IHG was now also working so I downloaded the IHG app. :)

Now I need to work out how to sign out of Google Talk as it is driving nuts using Gmail on PC and mail notifications on phone.

And when I get a chance I will make the 4 bookings I need for this promotion and maybe I will love the app so much I will use it all the time. ;)

Ok this promo is retarded.....

I got
  • 8000 - Travel with IHG app
    • Book 2 stay(s) with the IHG[SUP]®[/SUP] App and earn 8,000 bonus points.
  • 8400 - Stay more, earn more
    • Get closer to the rewards you want when you stay 5 nights and earn 8,400 bonus points.
  • 2000 - Bussiness success
    • Book 1 stay(s) with Business Success special rate and earn 2,000 bonus points.
  • 800 - Eat drink and earn
    • Spend USD $56 on food or beverages at IHG hotels and earn 800 bonus points.
  • 10000 - Join IHG dinning rewards
    • Entertain effortlessly when you join the new IHG[SUP]®[/SUP] Dining Rewards programme and earn 10,000 bonus points, plus enjoy your new Gold Elite member benefits with IHG[SUP]®[/SUP] Rewards Club.
  • 20800 - Achievement bonus

Ok so all round a very achievable target. Only issue, I already am a IHG Dinning Rewards member and the achievment isn't ticked off...

Also if I join the ambassador program do I get IHG Plat or will I stay at Gold? Second question, do block rates from special organised events count as a qualifying stay? I'm tossing if I should change my accomodation to chase the points, I've given up on IHG but points for a night at a IC is nice.

Reading the T&Cs for the paltry 800 points i'd get for spending US$56 at hotel bars:

"Must be an IHG[SUP]®[/SUP] Rewards Club member and must register your member in advance to participate in this Offer ("Registration"). Number of bonus points listed above will be awarded after the member reaches the required spend (or its equivalent in local currency) on Food or Beverage at all IHG[SUP]®[/SUP] hotels in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Asia, Middle East, South Pacific Islands, Australia or Europe between 1 January 2015 and 30 April 2015 (both dates inclusive) at InterContinental[SUP]®[/SUP], Crowne Plaza[SUP]®[/SUP], Hotel Indigo[SUP]®[/SUP], Holiday Inn[SUP]®[/SUP], Holiday Inn Express[SUP]®[/SUP], Staybridge Suites[SUP]®[/SUP], Candlewood Suites[SUP]®[/SUP] EVEN[SUP]™[/SUP] or HUALUXE[SUP]™[/SUP] hotels worldwide. Food or Beverage spend applies to in-hotel actual spend on Food & Beverage (excluding room service, mini-bar, applicable service fee, tax, discount amount and any other items determined at IHG’s[SUP]®[/SUP] discretion) at a..."

(My Emphasis). Does anyone else have this contradiction? I will have little opportunity to buy $56USD of food in non-US IHG hotels...

Did you skip the part where it said "or it's equivalent in local currency"?

My concern is how it lists "all IHG hotels mainland China, HKG..." etc and then goes on to list specific properties and state worldwide.

Agree there. I was thinking order Room Service or something and it should qualify, but I guess if you got a (big?) dinner in a hotel restaurant it would qualify, but yeah the headline suggests it's everywhere, the T&C basically says most places outside of North America... that's a bit of a cheat I reckon.

thanks for the heads up!
