I would have thought they would have run out of excuses by now but they seem to come up with a new excuse every week.

Hehe well I finally got out of Sydney, Sydney to Hobart was delayed due to centralised computer system going down in Brisbane after we boarded manual consist unable to be maintained apparently because phones were down also. Eventually got away 1 hour late. Got offered complimentary water 45 minutes after being seated though this only occured after someone was removed from the plane (making assumptions that they were sick)

Is it allowed to post request for guest in a lounge here.... Just wondering is everyone checking meetings/month/lounge request site?

I am in what I can only describe as what's left of the Melbourne lounge for the next 45-60 mins.

I eagerly await completion of the renovations. I feel a little worried though about the installation of pretty signs on the hoardings, it makes it feel like they will be there a while yet.

I can't see why not! Not sure about everyone but I check both the monthly lounge thread and this thread even if I am not travelling Virgin.

It appears the cost cutting at VA is in full swing, with coffee now served in paper cups (???) in the MEL lounge:

I saw that yesterday and I actually really like it. They're not the flimsy thin cups served in some places and it means you can pick up and go when you're ready, as well as being a handy cup for anything you wish to take out really.

Also from a practical point of view I find it makes a lot of sense for the cleaners.

Yeah that makes sense I guess, however given there were no lids available (that I could see) and that you're not allowed to take hot drinks through security that reduces the utility somewhat. I much prefer my caffe latte in a solid glass though.

As far as cost cutting, I am sure it would be cheaper to wash a cup, than make a paper one.

Wouldn't the cost stack up also including breakages and to to collect / put in dw and replace for re-use?

In seriousness, I'd say (especially early mornings) demand for takeaway would be the main reason.
