Is there a particular “check-out” time?
Out of the cabins by 8. Generally all off the ship by 10 ish.

Another cruisey thing. Luggage goes out the door the night before unless self carrying.

We’ve almost always been off by 9am. As this is a short cruise I’ll do self disembarkation where you carry your own luggage off so expwcting this to be about 7am or so. Otherwise as Pushka says you need to put your luggage outside your cabin the night before for it to be collected. In that case don’t forget a small bag to carry your overnight stuff in. I forgot once and had to buy a small tote on board to put pjs, toiletries, makeup etc in - the trick is to try and put the last night’s clothes in the luggage before it goes outside the cabin (by about 11.30pm). Regardless of your disembarking time, you usually have to be out if your cabin by 8am as noted by Pushka and then you wait in one of the lounges till your group is called.

And I’ll say it right here. Disembarkation process is the worst part of the cruise. There. That’s done.

Can you get your bag checked in at the start but carry it off on disembarkation.

Got the text from Princess yesterday, 2 weeks not long now.

Yes.

The processes are totally unrelated.

So are tips already covered on Aussie cruises?

Is there one for Kangaroo Island,
Port Lincoln, I have been there already twice, once 2 years ago and then 20 years before that.
There did seem to be a couple of mentions on TA and a tour company. They didn’t offer tours as such but said to contact them to organise something. I’ve seen a lot of KI and stayed weeks at a time and at most I’ll get off on the tender, walk around and come back.

Just remember though, both on embarkation and disembarkation, hardly anyone is in their cabin which means massive crowds in all the public areas of the ship. So someone trying to tote a full size suitcase will be a PITA for everyone else who has to get stuck behind them / trip over their bag / try and get past them in a narrow corridor etc etc.

If you book something with Princess for disembarkation day, eg transfer to the city, you will be told what time you are disembarking. Otherwise, as long as you are out of your cabin, Princess is IMO one of the better cruise lines for disembarking. They let you have your breakfast and get off when you're ready (up till about 9.30-10am). The only thing is that there is sometimes a time for different coloured luggage tags to be available. So if you have a green luggage tag on your disembarking bag and say green is available on the pier from 9am, there's no point you trying to disembark at 7am because you'll probably just have to wait 2 hours for your bag. They do a questionnaire during the cruise of what approximate timing you prefer to disembark, so you don't end up with a totally inconvenient time on your colour luggage tag.

I have been on other cruise lines where they herd you off like cows in big predesignated groups and make you sit in a specific lounge from some outrageous time like 6.30am regardless of whether you are booked on some post-cruise activity or not or what your plans are for the day. Star Cruises were the absolute worst for this a few years ago. And no proper breakfast there, just basically tea and toast  NCL similar

So my trick for disembarkation if not DIY is to nominate the earliest time but trundle off when ready at or after that time.

Celebrity tried to get everyone out of the cabins by 7am which is obnoxious. Outrage on CC got that stupid time removed but they still had it on the docs that are distributed. And which everyone ignored.

Usually boarding starts from 11am so I don’t know why it’s so late on our cruise.

Scheduled departure time is 9:00pm, as its a cruise over a long weekend, I guess the idea is that passengers would only have to take a few hours off work.

Cruise lines are never that empathic.

I have just been down to Fremantle to lay in essential supplies for both of my upcoming cruises. I was delighted to see three cruise ships in port today. Oceania's Regatta, CMV's Astor and Silversea's Silver Shadow were all lined up. A most unusual sight but so exciting to see.

More like they will be chugging very slowly to the first port. Late departures are common in the Mediterranean where there isn't a lot of sea to cover between ports. :)
Last year on Diamond we chugged along from Benoa Bali to Lombok. It’s about four hours by slow ferry and really just across a bit of water.
