Infants In Premium Cabins

A belated thank you to Miss Paddy. Looking forward to having Jnr Paddy "helping" in the galley next time. :)

They're a bit old for that now...

Miss Paddy has made me a grandfather twice
Jnr Paddy 1 travelled on his first JASA a couple of months ago
Jnr Paddy 2 is finishing uni...

But all have QF memberships, and some of the wisdom from AFF has been imparted :)

At $1200 for a lap baby the charges weren't irrelevant to me...

Sorry, I meant it was irrelevant imho whether an infant paid to be there or not... they, and their parents were entitled to all the service that came with the seat, and were as entitled to be there as anyone

I see that it was right to avoid this thread. Still see some of the usual confusions. Toodlers run, not infants. toodlers also have to pay for a seat.

Oh and good to see that some people are balming the parents. Even if others still think the child is entirely to blame. Good parents = good child = no problem in any cabin.

Utter twaddle!

Indeed. I think someone is confusing the people who they usually see in the cabin and who the cabin is "for".

Nope, generally business class is full of retired people, people travelling on business.

Trouble is you didn't say that, you said buisness is for retired and business people. I'm pretty sure Qantas, and most other airlines, view business as being for anyone who stumps up the cash.

Malaysia Airlines don't allow infants in First... and rightly so! Why are people dragging their babies from one end of the earth to the other anyway? Can't they wait to go on holiday and family should come to THEM!

No trouble at all.

Business class is generally full of business people and retired people! Of course anyone is welcome to pay, but they generally don't

That is a different statement to your first version

Business class is generally for business people or retired people

As I wrote, business is (mostly) for whoever will pay. It is not exclusive for business travellers and retired people, even if you mostly see those people in business.

Yeah it is really effective for seven distinct groups of friends and family (in my case) to fly to Oz to meet the new baby as opposed to me and mrssimongr taking the baby to meet them... Especially my 88 year old grandmother as she was really in a condition to fly to the other side of the world. Pretty glad we did make the trip given she was run over six months later and if we hadn't made the trip then, she would have never seen her newest grandchild. But - that's not as important as someone getting an extra hour's sleep on a flight...

Thing is that if a child is known to be generally hard to control and is likely to be disruptive in flight then maybe the parents should think about that before they fly?

It is definitely the parents if you have a bad infant/child etc, the same when there is a barking dog, it's not the dogs fault it's the owners!

good to know, you just fly Malaysian then and my 2 yo will not disturb you when we're on QF.

Difficult to make a blanket statement. But if the parents know their child they can deal with it.

We have travelled extensively in F and J with our family, starting when Dr FM was 10 months and still going.... (She is about to turn 27). We have 3 and yes travelling with young children had its challenges. However we have always put a huge amount of time (both of us), into our children and certainly never allowed bad behaviour. On the whole if you entertain kids and make sure they are not tired and hungry they usually behave. Premium cabins help as there is more space and they get fed quicker and can go to sleep properly. Babies are different of course, but breast feeding helps particularly on take off and landing. I often had passengers in F ( no doubt very relieved passengers) complimenting us on how well behaved the kids were and the FAs seemed to love them. Miss FM particularly seemed to walk off planes with bags of chocolate from her FA "friends".

I am not naturally a kiddie person and have a very low tolerance for badly behaved kids, no matter where they are. However 2 points first I blame the parents not the kids and second there is a difference between bad behaviour and natural high spirits.

I also think it is a bit silly to think that Business Class should be reserved for Business people! It is just a name for goodness sake, dreamt up by some marketing guru to create another section for people who couldn't/wouldn't pay F fares, but who were prepared to pay a fair bit more than economy for extra comfort.

I am not surprised there are lots of kids in J - travelling with kids is hard work, if you can afford it J makes the thing tolerable.

And I've got no time for annoying babies and kids when I'm trying to relax :) I'm not retired or a business person either, just a selfish snob.

+1

Part of the appeal of business/first is the ability to sleep which is almosst imposible in zoo class. That's what I am primarily paying for. If that ability to sleep is compromised by anyone (children, babies (or the parents of children/babies), w@nkers, loud drunks, etc) then I am not a happy chappy.

So wearing the ear plugs, eye mask and lying flat on your duvet covered flat bed and you can't sleep through the noise of kids?

I have been in J on CX at the back of J (my mistake) and could hear the screaming kid in whY so you aren't "safe" anywhere.

I remember on a flight to LHR in PE on the A380. There was a family of five young children all in Business class. It was just before the Olympics and peak fares. Hate to think how much was paid to do this.
