Instant IHG Diamond Status by Registration

I guess the balancing factor here is you have to make a booking (spend $$$$) to enjoy the benefit of the status which, unless you are in Asia or can find a Holiday Inn Express worth staying in, will require a fair outlay. Good if you need to book a few nights or have existing booking between now and Xmas to get a free breakfast I guess... just hope they dont start cancelling accounts 🙈

Same here and I registered with my IHG number so they know I am not a new member.
After submitting my request I went straight to my emails and email already there saying I was diamond. remember i didn't use my email address to register.
From there went to my IHG account and says I am Diamond.
Even better I have 12 nights at IHG properties booked before 12/12

I have successfully registered for this.

I'm planning to complete the 10 nights by the end of 2022 in order to retain Diamond status for next year. But I wonder what would happen if I didn't. Before registering for this offer, I was already Platinum and had that locked away until the end of 2023 - so I assume if I didn't complete this challenge I would drop back to Platinum next year?

No Club lounge or suite upgrades with IHG highest tier Elite Diamond status. The one and only guanteed perk is free breakfast which is hardly worthwhile compared to the other major chains. Nevertheless, I registered my IHG Platinum account within the first hour upon the OzB posting this morning, but I don’t expect to use it within the next 2.5 months.

I think there’s a good chance that IHG will revoke this status upgrade to non-Amazon employees in the coming days. IHG has a history of clawing back points they mistakenly awarded let alone status upgrades. If history is any indicator, there’s even a chance they go savage on anyone that took advantage of this promo undeservedly with draconian measures.

Since IHG devalued their top tier elite status earlier this year, it says a lot that they’re offering select organisations immediate zero to hero status. Clearly their new “Loyalty” program hasn’t paid off with existing members so they’re resorting to extreme measures to prop up their numbers by targeting high value prospective clients organisations.

Not working for me...it says code no longer valid. Was hoping to make use of it next week.

A 'mass downgrade' isn't very smart of them. Lots of people would have made IHG bookings on the back of the circa 10 week temporary upgrade to diamond. A downgrade is just going to annoy people who might otherwise have booked with IHG.

You have to remember IHG is a highly incompetent organisation. Their IT systems were down for a month because someone had set the master password to qwerty1234. They are stingy (no club access for people upgraded to club rooms) and have form in doing mass clawbacks. Hence why I said upthread I rate the chances of this sticking to be about 5%

Am I missing something or is there a catch? Aren’t they effectively giving away lot of free breakfasts ( one of the diamond perks) for the rest of the year to people who won’t or have no intention to stay the required number of stays to extend status into 2023? I wonder if they are flooded with applications they will shut done offer ?
Just tried and code now invalid.

Picked up by LL overnight (although hasn’t been updated to show it’s closed)

But some comments in the above article suggesting that IHG Ambassador renewal/application is extending the Diamond status to 2023 (one comment even said 2024).

Has anyone tried?

Hopefully, they booked flexible rates.

This has worked for years
Yes, but specifically if someone now has instant Diamond (to Dec 2022) and either renews/joins Ambassador, will it stick to ~2023 (not withstanding possible “mass downgrades”).

Even at current exchange rates, US$200 will be a hell of lot cheaper than 10 nights (unless they’re booked anyway).

Not to mention the 20k signup bonus points after only 2 nights (albeit at ICs).

This 'deal' made the front page of SlickDeals in the US with over 40,000 views. Across all the sites, there must be hundreds of thousands new Diamonds LOL. No way hotel owners will tolerate handing out breakfasts to all these new elites.
Completely agree. I can't see any good coming from having signed up. Best care here is everyone that took advantage is downgraded to their original level. Worst case is that accounts are banned.

I wonder if someone is mid-booking and took up this promo ? How would the hotel react to that? Go to bed as Platinum (or whatever) and wake up a Diamond, go downstairs and demand a free brekkie lol

Should be relatively simple to identify new sign ups with Diamond using that code in defined period and cancel those. If they go nuclear option and start cancelling existing status holders, going to get very messy...

I was already IHG Diamond expiring end of this year so didn't sign up for this deal. Might go down the Ambassador route too :)
