Instant IHG Diamond Status by Registration

When logging in on desk top a few weeks ago, there was a message stating that status was being reviewed between Jan and 31 Mar; Im not sure if this was because I got my Diamond through a status challenge, I only stayed about 25 nights last calendar year (all from June to December) so I expect to keep my Diamond until end of this year; and hope some sort of challenge comes along that enables me to keep it.

At this stage I only have forward bookings of about 8 nights. I didnt sign up for ambassador yet because so far a IC stay doesn't fit with any travel plans, if that changes I may fork out for it.

My expiry showing 31 Dec 2023, I signed up in December 2022, and have a few future bookings.
Yep, same for me and others who signed up before Jan 1st 2023.

The status clawback only seems to affect those who renewed from Jan 1st onwards. For those exploiting this glitch, status was extended by two years. Many were delighted by the obvious error but I‘m not sure too many would have expected it to stick given IHG’s track record.

Same so far with mine.

I signed up to Ambassador to keep the Diamond status to end of 2024, but a family member just let it lapse. They tell me this morning that their status has been downgraded to Platinum with expiry end of this year

Same, didn’t try the Ambassador trick and have been dumped down to platinum (my previous status)

I had Ambassador pre code. Still showing as Diamond Elite until Dec 22 and status recognised at IC Madrid last week. My Ambassador year is expired sometime late April.

Looks like the party is over. Diamond really only granted you free breakfast and the occasional upgrade at the property’s discretion, so not a huge loss. I might just try and get my fill in the next few months while it’s still there.

If you get ambassador membership it extends diamond elite for 12 months

I think you misunderstand. The point being made is that renewing your existing Ambassador membership no longer extends Diamond status for another year. It used to, but no more.

Or are you suggesting that if we let the Ambassador membership lapse while we still have Diamond, wait a while, and then purchase IC Amabassador membership again, that will trigger the unpublished Diamond extension? Where to check the Ambassador expiry date? I can see my IHG status is aligned to end of calendar, but no Ambassador details.

Looks like I have done the right thing switching most of my stays to IHG this year. Will reach 40 nights which will get me club access for 12 months and by buying the points when booking will reach 120000 base points so requalify diamond that way.
and have just been able to redeem my suite upgrade at the IC Tokyo Bay.

Bummer. No way I'll hit 40 nights so looks like it'll be a downgrade. Might still purchase amb with points just to see, the bogof certificate is normally worth the cost in points for a free-ish IC night

I have a feeling if you can hold off making the selection until January, the lounge access will be valid for 2024 and 2025.

Sorry looks like I missed the backstory.

Try 70 nights for Diamond Elite! No way the benefits are worth that.
It's 40 nights for Platinum Elite, else Platinum comes standard with Ambassador membership for 0 nights.

If it's over - as it seems might be the case - I'll stop my renewing of AMB membership from next year... I just renewed in July to take my Diamond status out to 31-Dec-2024, the same trick I've been using since IHG Spire Elite first showed up. Probably a case of one too many Fb chat group idiots calling up IHG customer care to confirm that when they buy the membership for $200 that they will get extended like everyone else in the chat already alluded to. Seriously, some people need a license to use the internet.

Cheers,
Matt.
