where do those seats live? I have literally never seen one...and have spent another hour or so this AM searching multiple dates / destinations. VA don't seem to have a date range function like the one on the QF site...
They will all be on the same page, but probably showing as sold out if you cant see any.

Does anyone know if this discount would be applied to an eligible fare that is currently waitlisted for a J upgrade - providing it is successful of course.

What will happen if we need to change the date of a reward ticket we've booked with this promo? I know there'll be a $35 (domestic) change fee, but would the 30% in points count as a fare difference as well?

In the email t&c's is says:
Velocity Frequent Flyer said:
Itinerary changes made after 28 February 2018 will cause your discount to be lost.

Whether they enforce it though, who knows...

Took advantage of the 30% discount. 34,600 pts MEL-NAN in J on the A330 is good value - had to go for a conference anyway and they had 3 seats over and 2 on the way back available, so a good opportunity to take the family.

Excellent award availability MEL-AKL and SYD-AKL and return next Jan.
Booked 4 x J awards AKL to MEL on the one flight and have now taken up a full have of the J cabin

Also, if booking one way back to AUS be sure to use the Velocity site and not the Virgin NZ site which your search will default to as the discount does not apply to awards booked thru the NZ site.

I need to be in China in late September. Anyone have any ideas how I could use this discount to get "close" as I could spend a few days checking out an interesting location and then get a cheap airfare to China. Obviously Hong Kong is out of the question.

Thanks Sludge321! Not the answer I was hoping for, but good to know... I'm one of the people who never got the email.

I imagine anybody who just happened to redeem tickets online at the moment, not knowing about the discount, would be in for a surprise if they later had to change their tickets.

Although there are no J Award seats available there are Economy Reward seats available MEL-HKG most days in September.

If you can handle the back of the plane for a 9hr 40min flight then 19400 VFF points plus $84.95 is a pretty good deal. Same points to fly back although the add on amount is then $73.70.

Interesting to note: the official travel dates were listed on VA's website as valid from mid March 2018 to 09 January 2019. Last night, I booked our reward J seats to Perth for January 16, 2019. A small notice just before the payment page advised me that the 30% discount had been applied and sure enough, I paid way less than the standard reward fare to Perth.
