Hubby tells me he got a phone call today from a marketing/survey company, specifically targeting WPs.

They said that as he's been WP for a number of years and they note he currently has 600+K in points, they "wanted to chat" about being a WP and how he uses his points and how he would like to use them.

Edit: Hubby won't be able to attend as he had other obligations.

Anyone else?

Nothing here.

I'm into my second year of Platinum status and have a very similar number of points however I haven't had a phone call. Can you elaborate on how many years your husband has held Platinum status for?

I did however receive a web survey this week, but that was more general in scope.

I think he's been WP since 2012.

They had access to his points balance and phone number ect.

Office was in York Street, Sydney.

I haven't received a call, but have so in the past ( maybe 2 years ago) I think they have your info, if you've ever completed a VA survey, and tick the box, which allows them to call you.
I went along to the evening and compensated $50

I've only been WP a year, but gold two years before that. I'd be interested in this discussion.. Just putting it out there.. VA rep.

According to the official line from the VA rep on another thread about rumours of a higher tier than Platinum

Surely the amount of time and resource put into asking, chatting and surveying flyers could be better spent actually doing something.

Why is it clear to the flying public the improvements that should /could happen, yet with all the talking, nothing really improves.. I just don't get it

EDIT : Removed inaccurate reference to WP changes

With the way all FF programs are going at the moment, the only changes are generally negative. So doing nothing may the best for us....

Maybe a special roped off area in the lounge for WP's would be nice, with better food and spirits!! (and no thongs...)

I can imagine the "chat"

So, how do you decide to use your points?
Hubby: My wife does.

How do you manage your account?
Hubby: My wife does

What would you like to see happen in the future?
Hubby: Whatever my wife says, just dont touch my lounge access, priority check in and bonus points.

What if we did ABC, how would that change your travel?
Hubby: Dont know, you'll have to ask my wife.

Well, that's not true. The rep said there is no new tier being introduced. They did not exclude changes to WP.

Did you want a red carpet too? ;)

Red carpet would be nice :) Doesn't everyone like being made to feel special. That's one thing that Virgin can do very well at times-make you feel valued and special whilst not having any of the arrogance or snootiness that can also occur.

That being said I don't know if its coincidence or not but I have noticed different treatment flying J when dressed in my suit rather than tracky dacks and baseball cap...

AFF may be a subset of the bunch and we're focusing on VA-centric or "airport/flight" offerings.

One ponders if there are groups of WPs out there who earn so many points, but would prefer to use them on non-flying rewards (other than toasters ) that are meaningful eg. dinner for them and partner at a fine dining restaurant, "experiences" etc. so that their SO can share in their "platinumness".... (yes i made up a word).

The other comment would be (as illustrated with the "what my wife says" discussion above ) is in many cases, the joy isn't in the travel for the WPs and they are time poor, but when their partner travels without them (in many cases, to meet them somewhere!), a focus would be that their partner gets treated as well they do. As in many families / relationships, the WP wouldn't be flying so much without the "at home" partner taking care of the household.

So sure it's not a "one size fits all" but some lateral thinking may be required.....

The difficulty accessing International lounges as a family when flying Y (especially when the flyer goes J for work) is a related issue. Realise that children in lounges is a potentially divisive topic.

My office blew about a million points on gift cards. I almost cried.

Im taking my first QF flight in years soon, Im totally going to start a thread about what Toaster to buy once I get my points.
