I pre-ordered a Samsung Galaxy SII from the UK tonight. Due for release there in less than a week, and hopefully I'll have it shipped over pretty quickly.
The industry buzz around the phone is intense, general user comments are going wild. This phone is a game changer, and seriously gives Apple a run for their money.
(No wonder Apple is suing... They're running scared!)
The iPhone 5 has been delayed, and won't be out until late 2011 or early 2012. That will be comparable I think to the new generation of Androids, but will it be enough? Or too late? Not enough? Nice try Apple?
Nice bait, I’ll bite.
I’m not sure how a phone released 9 months after the phone it’s supposedly competing against is giving it a run for it’s money. The iPhone has followed an annual release schedule, that everyone is saying is being pushed back (thankfully so the developer conference can actually focus on software once again)… so where’s the issue?
I agree the best time to buy is at release or shortly thereafter, but if you’re buying a phone that’s supposedly a game-changer, 3 or so months before the phone it’s competing against is meant to be updated to the next version, it’s not going to be very game-changing for long, assuming no one sits on their hands in this industry!
On the basis of copying I think Apple has the right to sue, from what I’ve seen, all their promotional materials are virtually the same as Apple’s, and I’m sure not by accident, not to mention UI (though do they have patents or IP on that? I don’t know).
As for chips… well, who knows what Samsung has shared internally, and while not implying they did anything, if they did, they’re a bit buggered.
I just think you’re basing your purchase on a 'game-changer' phone, that’s 9 months later than the last iPhone, and based on historical shipping data, 3 months away from a new version. Seems a bit bold to make that claim. :?:
Of course, I’d never expect you to get an iPhone, even if they were the only phone on the market, but to me your reasoning is flawed, based on what is known, and not rumours.
