iPhone, Android or Windows Mobile??

You don't have to disagree with something to realise that it is a monopoly.

As already mentioned, if apple weren't making heaps of money, I'd be more inclined to believe that they set up the itunes store out of the goodness of their heart.

I didn’t mean calling it a monopoly was troll-ish, though re-reading that it seems to connect rather well, I meant harking on about the same thing all the time when you have the opportunity to just not buy the product :p

I disagree on the exact intentions for their single store, but you’re not a troll for disagreeing :-|

Well I don’t see what the issue is, you know there’s only one place you can buy apps from when you buy the phone, you’re not being forced into it afterwards, so where’s the issue.
IMO, Apple is skating around the edge of third line forcing!

I guess the problem with a forum is there are a heap of parallel conversations going on and it might be relevant to mention the same thing in a few threads. I'm not sure that is necessarily the same as harping on about that point.

As for apple's intentions IMO the app store setup is about protecting brand and product reputation, by controlling virii, prawn, and illegal activities. That they can also make a heap of money is just happy coincidence. ;)

Who's the third party?
;) That is why I said skating around...

I think that there is a valid argument that subsidiary businesses may be considered third parties (e.g. iTunes), even if they are wholly owned by one of the parties involved in the original sale.

As an example, I would suggest that the end of forced motor vehicle servicing by the OEM service departments (to maintain warranty) may set partial precedent for such an interpretation?

But, I would also add that I am unfamiliar with Apple licensing terms.

I would guess the third party devs who only supply iphone apps through the the app store process could be the third party.

If the app store runs as an agent for the devs, then that will scoot around that (the user transacts with the store, not the dev). If anything, the App Store is more likely to be an example of Full Line Forcing (you must not go somewhere else), rather than Third Line Forcing (you must use this particular 3rd party supplier)

I would gave guessed the App store could be the 3rd party as both Devs and customers must use them to transact with each other. But I also know nothing about the set up of the apps store and I'm sure apple has good lawyers to take care of this stuff.

Late to chime in, some thoughts....

I have android, wife has iphone.

Wife regularly borrows android to browse web cause iphone doesn't (and won't) work on Adobe Flash enabled sites

Ditto for most web video content.

We use android for navigation (copilot) because iphone apps are more expensive and it doesn't multitask as well

etc etc

So basicly iphone is used for phone calls and basic web browsing, android for anything more complicated.

Anyone got a google phone. I find my Iphone4, somewhat limited as a phone, but the app stuff is great.

Looking forward to the next IPad release. What's the issue there with Adobe?

Flash is purported to be a security risk, buggy and a resource hog Also Apple don;t want to be reliant on a third party for updates to key software to enable the web experience - so they prefer to drive web devs to HTML5. I don't have a bias here in this regard - just trying to retell the facts as I know them.

Out of interest what phone functions is it failing on? My biggest issue is the signal (3GS here) but I think that is a 3 issue rather than a iPhone issue...

I agree with you about the 3 issue and signal. I've noticed in the last 2 months it's gone totally up the creek. To the point where I will consider swapping back to Tel$tra.

When iPhone 5 hits I will go to all the telcos and see who can do the best deal on 2 IP5s and 2 iPads...

Out of interest, how do you find it 'limited'?

I would have thought it performed all the same functions as any other phone (be it smart phone or otherwise).

It:
- Makes Calls
- Receives calls
- Integrates nicely with the built in Contacts (and syncs from Address Book on a Mac or Outlook on a PC)
- Has a great history of outward and missed/received calls
- can do call conferencing and hold/switch (dependant on carrier, you'd be amazed at the fact that some carriers still don't support multi-party calling on GSM; that's carrier issue not handset).

As far as i'm aware most handsets do that quite well. Just curious not trying to say it's better than Android (Having used an Android handset, I still prefer the iPhone way of doing it, but that's just MHO).

I eventually went for the android (Samsung Galaxy S); overall quite happy as I learn how to use the darn thing! I wish there was an android AFF app tho....might PM admin:)

If you scroll down to the very bottom of any page, you'll see "--PC Mode" in a drop down box. Click it and change it to 'Mobile' and it should work better from your Android handset:)

HTC Desire here.... lol......Android all the way... Love to see an AFF app for the Green Android Robot... :p

I went the HTC Legend.... Each time i upgrade i look at all the bells and whistles and uhm and ah and spend the next two years just making phone calls and sending texts... for me the odd photograph/listen to music/browse the web etc and stuff just isn't worth going from $29/month up to $50/month or more... if i don't spend it on the phone i can spend it on other stuff... got a $4/month-700meg of data to add to the 200meg which comes with the plan....

mainly just wanted a GPS feature to let me know where i am when travelling which the Legend has along with most of the phones..

Went with Vodafone, finding the coverage a bit coughpy, if it doesn't start to improve soon i might take it back and ask for a refund....
