Some apps that I find useful when travelling:
* XpenseTrkr: helps keep track of travel expenses, including photos of receipts, and lets me email myself an expense report after each trip.
* AroundMe: what restaurants, shops, etc are near me?
* TouchTerm: lets me ssh into my work servers to check how things are going at home.
* Ambience: ambient sounds to help me sleep in hotel rooms.
* GPush: push alerts of my gmail email.
* PWAU Lite: local weather forecasts.

Found another awesome app... LiveATC. It lets you get all the airport tower chatter from around the world. Careful - its a bandwidth user! ;)

You can also listen for free on their website, certainly beats the $3.99 fee if you're in the lounge and are using wifi.

Listening to BNE now, funny stuff! Just heard a pilot saying he didn't know what was going on :p

I am not sure this is something I need to be listening to in the lounge...

Well, in the context he said it in, wasn't too bad. Basically the ATC said something about heading left, then quickly said to disregard that as it was his left, at which point the pilot said he didn't even know what was going on, so there was no issue.

:p

Luve this:

FWIW, I employ BT quite alot - I have a USB BT dongle I picked up in SIN for around $10. Far more compact than lugging cables etc. around. Works quite well with my 30 month old 'phone.

I finally got my Blue Tooth working yesterday on the iPhone - works OK in my BT XR8 but wouldn't work in a Thrifty BT XR6 last week - it must be me..

Mr!

Just checked the website. I like that they have Archerfield airport in Brisbane, but not SYD.

*stokes the embers under the thread to get it going again...*

I didn’t realise this was released until a couple weeks ago, but apparently it’s been out for a while. And there I was thinking Foxtel were never going to dump Flash. Very useful.

Anyway, in this months Qantas magazine there is a section on 50 apps for frequent travellers using smart phones, though most are for the iPhone. Quite a few good ones listed, and lots are free.

I haven't got an iPhone as yet - waiting for the 4G to arrive in a couple of weeks, but here is a list of apps I've tested:

Tripit: handy to check your trips if you use Tripit
Priority Pass: List of all the lounges worldwide
Room: Allows you to store your hotel room number!
XE: Live currency converter
Foxtel: remotely record apps on your IQ - how awesome is that??
Atomic Fart: For a bit of fun!

There are more that I'll post once I have done some more testing.

I'll have to re-read the Applications people here use, now that I am getting very comfortable with my 3G.

Tripit is great and after you have input the info you can easily access your flight details.
I use XE several times a day, with AFF, CBA, Whitepages and ebay the others I use frequently.

I love how i can email tripit from my qantas booking and it will automatically update everything. bloody awesome!

Battery life:
I don't know if this has been mentioned before but I find the life of the Iphone battery lasts less than two days (especially using the internet/apps etc). I am with Optus and found if I turn off 3G, by going to settings/general/network/enable 3G, the power seems to last longer. Naturally, 3G is a lot faster when accessing emails etc, so when I need to I simply turn the 3G back on again when needed.
