Is anyone sick of flying? I am...

I don't fly nearly as much as you so 'no' from me - but sounds like a change from J to F might make things bearable?

Someone else in this thread mentioned pre GFC a lof more companies sending folks J, now many more are stuck in Y and I think it makes a difference. The various beancounters just see the added cost, but I think what they are not factoring in is that very frequent flyers will eventually 'hit the wall' as it seems you may have done.

When that happens is different for all of us, but companies need to be extremely wary of this as its hard to motivate a worn out road warrior once he hits that block - best to keep them as comfortable as possible to reduce the chance of ever getting there.

First class =) i can only dream, but yes you are right, the bean counters dont understand that all this travel is actually quite tiring...

I use to fly up to Chicago for the weekend but this time I just lay around in Cincinnati...

I'm travelling a lot less with work this year and must say after a few years of flying most weeks I've enjoyed being home!

Only down-side is that it raises the question of whether to do a couple of status runs to keep SG or just buy QC when my membership year ends in January.

This is the same predicament that I will be facing in Janurary too.

with qantas i am, will crack 5000sc in 10 months by the end of this week. I actually think qantas is getting worse but maybe thats because I spend half my life on their planes. I would definately enjoy flying more if it was with Sing air but unfortunately their timetable doesnt work too well for me. I have my first premium economy flight with virgin next week so that should be interesting - might have to be a regular occurance if it goes well

nah no CL or WP+, no incentive after you get LTG or partner gold. Probably another reason i am over Qantas, no incentive. 90% of the flights have been J which helps but still means more than 1 trip OS every month

Pre GFC, I had one year with about 6800 SC - pretty easy to achieve in J with 4 DONE4s for the year and an assortment of other J and Y flights. That was a LOT less flying than I am doing these days. That was 65 flights (many in J) for the calendar year back then compared to last year's 93 flights (all in Y)

Last year after 3 trips to Europe in 5 months I was getting sick of the jetlag... not the flying.

Have had a couple of calmer months but am looking forward to my 9 flights at the end of the month and some more in the next few months

No.But I am mainly a leisure traveller so always a new adventure.Come on May.
:confused::(:confused:
16 words,1 missed comma....

Nope. l've had about 6 months off and ready to get back on a plane ASAP. J (fingers crossed)

drron, can you please put "spacers' in your sentences. Yes, your 100 times smarter than me, but please, for the love of Christ, can you put some space marks into your sentences???
Now are you sure you weren't my English teacher in a previous life?Never was good at it.She always was at me re punctuation.
But i have learnt from my mistakes.I am confident I can repeat every one.
So sorry but if it bothers you I guess dont read my posts because it sure is going to happen again.:lol:

The trouble is Oneworldplus2 drron can only type with one finger and if he gets excited and uses two, he doesn't have a spare finger for the space bar !

Only gets me when l've had a few drinks and try to read fast. Feels like the sentences never end. ;)

Hi all
Interesting reading the thread for this one. I have travelled extensively for the last 18 years and pretty much exclusivey in Y. Only the (very) odd upgrade but that hasn't been for a LONG time! This year I have clocked up almost 94,000km's as I mainly travel between Australia/USA (about once a month) and also the UK. Obviously I enjoy travelling or I wouldn't do it but I don't enjoy the waiting around airports, or the constant search for a power outlet to plug my phone into between flights!

Never sick of flying - especially long haul !
Cocooned away from phone, email, you can just relax and read, sleep, drink, be waited on - what could be better than that.

Don't like short haul where everything is a rush and I hate most o'seas airports.

Just back from a R-T-W trip and cannot believe the standards of most Club Lounges. Qantas has set a great standard (at least in Melb and Sydney) but most lounges are pretty average and with a dismal standard of food.

Also, is anyone experiencing frustration with the new Qantas bag tax - the Marc Newson designed disc that seems to be three times bigger that it needs to be. It gets in the way and I've been asked at checkin on several occasions "what is this?" !!!

Hi all,
Let's see,
last three months I've been in Australia, Solomon Islands, East Africa
and Papua New Guinea.
Flying in third world countries can be complex, many unexpected situations can occur.
Commercial, well run international airlines are usually fine on their domestic legs.
Some of the less well regulated ones aren't.
Out of ten flights in P.N.G, six were cancelled.
I've been on F100's, Dash 8's,Kaman choppers 767's, a beat to hell Brazilian
(Embraeur?) passenger jet, stayed in absolute flop houses and a couple of really nice suites, spent ages in third world pest hole airports, gazing at the sweat while waiting to hear if the flights ever going to take off.

Parts of it are still fun and I look at it as commuting, some people drive 1 1 1/2-2 hours each way to work, some catch flights.

There's not much "Glamour" left in it, people ,as an example, don't get dressed up for flight any more and lot's of the Airlines staff look rather harried these days rather than the smooth, unruffled professional of yore.

I am sort of sick of flying, commuting, but then a leisure trip comes along where I have scheduled a number of flights in succession to challenge me and the desire and passion for flying returns.

P.S I would rather be flying than working....

Have been sick of travelling in the past, rather than flyong specifically. Any week involving more than two work journeys, I'm getting over it. Especially when its back and forwards between the same old places. I got very sick of a BNE-SYD commute at one stage. Any long flight, I'm over it after about 8 hours (esp as they are always leisure travel in Y or Y+ so no flat beds). Hotel rooms, get over them very quickly. Long queues at security, quarantine and customs, noisy and rude passengers, lounge loudmouths, I'm always instantly overr them.

But hey, three weeks without a flight and I start to go into withdrawal. Sick of flying is a very temporart state of mind to me.

Cheers skip

BTW thanks for the tips folks, finally cracked WP thanks to them, and enjoying a glass of Perrier champagne in the SIN F lounge right now. Cheers and have a great Easter!

Hmmm .. stil tired of it?
my goodness... it was awesome...
there is a tangible difference between J and F... who would have thought.

Usually in J I want to hurt myself by the 9th hour of the flight. This time I was happy all the way to the landing. The food was fresh, tasty and healthy, service was fantastic, they pre-empted what you wanted, ie PJ sizes, preparing the bed, taking away the mattress, breakfast timing etc...

I got about 8.5 hrs sleep, the bed was very comfortable when prepared for sleep. Only two hiccups on the flight, 1. one of the window paper curtains disconnected and fell down. 2. towards the end of the flight (last 1.5 hrs) my roof lights started to go on and off...

Not very likely for me to ever experience this again and though i'm glad to have experienced it once getting off the plane made me sad. To everyone out there who hasn't tried F before yes it is worth the 45k sc's for the upgrade if you can get it.

Now... back to Y domestic flights...

I rememeber a Diner's Club ad in the QC in Sydney once:

"People who don't travel for work envy those that do. We know better"

which I think is pretty true. Travelling for work sucks after a while - it doesn't matter if you are travelling Y/J/F - you get used to it after a while (well, that's my experience with Y and J, and I imagine F would be the same). Even the Sydney/Melb QF F lounges are just a lounge after a while. Same for the BA T5 F lounge (at least for me)

Travelling for leisure is a different story - you can choose where to go, and when you want to go, and there is no requirement to do anything at the other end.
