Is anyone sick of flying? I am...

In just over 7 months since my FF renewal date I've done 1,680sc and I think when I get on another plane I will hurt myself...

I'm seriously sick and tired of it... I did QF25 in J and yeah by the 7 hr mark I just wanted to be off the plane... I have 11 flights this month... and though most if it's in J I just don't want to do it anymore... it use to be exciting but now... farout...

Does anyone else get sick of it all?

given you just now posted about getting an upgrade to F on A380 to LAX - hey, someone has to do it/pay for it so given the rest of us plebs a bex :p

Hmmm .. stil tired of it?

It was the first flight in a while where I didn't want to hurt myself...

I don't want to fly ever again... cause I'm not sure it's ever going to get any better and if anything will make my next batch of fligths even more painful =)

Flying Nirvana! :p

What's better than flying QF from SYD to LAX in 388 F? Flying from LAX to SYD as it takes an hour longer :p

Actually i dont think its better for the extra hour, i think its MUCH BETTER as when i get off the plane i am back in the best country in the world and i get to go home :)

I've been tiring of these twin-engined domestic jobs for many years - fighting the BNE airport traffic, the ever increasing check-in queues, the cramped seat (when you can't get B738 row 4) and then baggage claim and taxi queue.

HOWEVER, my duties took me on a Cape York flight in a new 5 seat R66 from CNS, where I was able to drive to the GA, walk thru the office door onto the tarmac and into the F seat and 4 hours of sunny stable flight across the Daintree and around our project area further north.

Catering was poor as it was self supplied, but hey - IT HAS REVIVED ME:D:D:D

I enjoy flying, but am becoming more and more cynical about the experience.
  • Cuts here, cuts there. (To everything from food, drinks, FF schemes and in-flight/lounge experiences),
  • Longer security lines/ tighter security conditions - with ratcheting of security going up a notch seemingly every time I fly.
  • Qantas not caring about me as a passenger.
  • Really poor cabin crew at times.

But I like to travel. It's hard to travel (quickly/effectively) without flying commercial. So I think I just have to live with it and try and enjoy the whole experience.

Perhaps I need to start trying sleeping pills for those longer flights!

... Sounds like a change from J to F might make things bearable?

First class makes it more bearable, then you move from F to a G550, and you realise that you barely knew you were alive.

I will never tire of flying, but i tire from being apart from the family for up to 8-10 weeks at a time. Lucky for this trip my family was able to come visit me in Thailand for 4 of the 12 weeks ive been here so far..

Off to Sth Africa for 10 weeks from here.. :( then China, then birthplace (Sydney), then future home.. (US - Early Aug)..

But I always say home is where the family is, so right now, Pattaya Thailand is home..

Since 2008 when I started my Regional role, ive knocked up 750,000km, so im little tired, but always happy to fly home..:)

Which interior fitout do you use? I am interested to know whether the berthing is useable or just a gimmick. Thanks.

14-seater which apparently can berth 5, and I think it would do so comfortably. The berths are as comfy as any F cabin I've slept in. Thus-far we've only done 2 pax long-hauls, so it's been quite roomy. The config also has a crew-rest area, and aft galley.

If I were going to have one personally customised, I'd choose a custom 8-seat, forward-galley layout. Maybe in a few years...

I really enjoy flying, but unfortunately get to do very little compared to the majority of users on here (and all Y domestic)

Would love to get myself a job that required more frequent travel

we may have to do a job swap...

End of this month will be 6 months in to my QF year and over 6500 SCs...

That's certainly impressive! At my current rate since my aniversary, I should hit just over 4000 by the end of my memebership year. With my travel all in Y (mainly discount Y) international, I am actually hoping things slow down so I dont hit that mark.

I'd prefer to be dead than doing 4000sc's in international discount Y

The answer to the original question is...yep.

I am trying to drive to most places these days. It's amazing how much of the country you get to see when you aren't flying. Some parts of country NSW and Victoria I had forgotten about since flying everywhere.

However, I would advise flying overseas, from Australia, rather than driving. It gets a tad damp!

I still need to fly within Australia some of the time though, for time constraints, but with my job, it means that I usually do have time to drive.

Yes...With a minimum of 2 flights a fortnight and usually 4, it's getting boring and losing it's novelty. All in Y domestic though (commuting).

Granted the commuting is a chore. But what never pales is setting out on a flight to somewhere new or somewhere you haven't visited in a long time that you love.

For every bore, sweating fatty or dribbling snorer that fate puts you next to, you have the lottery of a fascinating, funny like minded seatmate that makes the journey disappear.

The clincher is that there are few spaces left in this world that you can have the space to relax, read, eat drink, play games, watch movies in almost perfect peace for a few hours of 'me' time. Of course it helps not to be in Y to enjoy this particular indulgence.
