That's certainly impressive! At my current rate since my aniversary, I should hit just over 4000 by the end of my memebership year. With my travel all in Y (mainly discount Y) international, I am actually hoping things slow down so I dont hit that mark.

and here I was thinking I was crazy with just under 3,000 in one membership year all discount Y...

Hats of to you dot! :)

End of this month will be 6 months in to my QF year and over 6500 SCs...

What class were they in? For that amount in that short space of time, l'm guessing J or F? Any AA?

I really feel for you. I'd rather be unemployed than do that amount of flying in Int Y...

Dot - that is horrible. You should travel in J if you travel that much, it can't be good for you. I used to travel 100% in Y, and hit platinum for the first time doing only discount Y domestic flights, so I feel for people who do the hard yards like that (and I won't go back to it!)

Looking through my itineraries for the last 6 months on my last flight just ended (unpleasantly sitting next to someone with intense and unyielding flatulence...), here are some stats:

- ~70 flights in 6 months = ~477 hours, or 20 days on a plane
- ~10 different airlines used
- ~250k miles flown or around 400k km (I think)
- mix of J and Y, split roughly 90/10
- didn't travel at all the first month (was a good month!)

Special benefits yet? Nope, but I'm getting to know alot of nice airline staff which helps.

What kind of job/flights do people do to get 3000 points in discount Y?

If I look at my 2010 calendar year, I did a total flying time of 603 hrs, 234,000 miles (thats equal to 9.4 times around the equator) and 100 flights. From this I allocated 1,080 SC's to QF, 9.3k miles to AA & 56k miles to *A.

So at a guess, it's a job that involves a bit too much travel for my liking .....

On average I would end up with about 150-200 hours a year in Y on international long hauls. Unfortunately I am in a company that does not offer J to its employees. I work on a seismic vessel in the oil and gas industry. Most of these companies struggle to make huge profits unlike the major oil and gas companies - turn over is key in the seismic industry. The one perk is I can live anywhere in the world. On crew change which happens every 5 weeks the turn over is about 140 people (70 on-signers and 70 off-signers). We also travel on seamans tickets which are discounted and probably a lot cheaper.

Hopefully one day I will be able to fly in J for work. I guess I am still young at 24 so once I manage to either start my own company or hold a higher position in another company that opportunity might come !!

I am very sick of flying, I find it impossible to sleep so I spend the whole time shuffling around in my seat trying to get comfortable - which is impossible considering my knees are jammed into the seat in front of me. I am lucky in some respects that 75% of the time I get the exit row which I request at check in, mainly because I travel alone and I'm a bit taller than average. I am starting to consider sleeping pills although I have never been a fan of taking any pills for anything, let alone knocking me out for a few hours.

I get sick of flying and the entire airport and dropping off hire car cough and that stuff.

It mainly happens when i have had a big week at work and doing the airport thing just pushes me over the edge.

I have snapped/rolled eyes at fellow paxs when they either want me to get up so they can go to the toilet for a second time or even 3 time...

I am probably a bit more tolerant on a Monday morning flight than later in the week flight.

I do app 200 000 km in the air per year.

IM a spring chicken in present company with only about 25-30,000 k's under my belt most years, however, with the exception of my personal trips every few years - it's all in Y and all domestic (never been in F or J, spent a bit of time in Y+ recently though...). For me, I am not sick of flying at all and I don't think I ever will. I love transit and every part of it. We are about to leave on a 28 HR journey, for a holiday, and although it is all in Y, I am looking forward to it as much as any other part of the holiday. What I am sick of is time away from the family, even if it is for a few days, it seems like you miss out on soooooo much. If I could have them at the destination, I'd be a happy camper. I happen to love being in transit by myself for the whole "me" time!

I've noticed the opposite with the extended family, after living down here for 4 years now I feel that every time I go back it is still the same. They still talk about the same stuff (mainly us living soooo far away :), still go to the same places, get together every week... (this actually makes me happy to live on the other side of the world) (side note: don't leaving SWMBO with the dog for extended periods of time though)

Thought of this thread after a 13 hour long haul flight on a A340-600 in whY. I even had an emergency exit seat, it was a night time flight. I had a big guy next to me and for the whole flight I could not get comfortable enough to sleep for more than 1 hour. The seat was extremely uncomfortable, every position I tried would end up making me sore after a few minutes (mainly my cough). This sounds bad, but I even tried getting on the floor and resting my head on the seat (do not try this at home, the stench down there from feet was disgusting and made me get up very quickly). Really painful experience, made worse by a very bad cold I had which caused my ears to get blocked and make me feel like even more cough. Not looking forward to my next flight, and getting closer to the sleeping pill route.

There are echoes of the thread about business class being 'worth it' or not here I think. We got a pretty even spread in the end, in that thread, of PAX who think its always worth it and those who think its not. My own view is that we all have our individual limits of in-air time before Y, even a half decent Y, becomes unbearable and makes you want to scream - sounds like you hit yours :)

Any chance up upgrading your return flight with points or money? Even PE can help and can may stop the need for the white jacket with the extra long arms being brought out hehehe.

In just over 7 months since my FF renewal date I've done 1,680sc and I think when I get on another plane I will hurt myself...

I'm seriously sick and tired of it... I did QF25 in J and yeah by the 7 hr mark I just wanted to be off the plane... I have 11 flights this month... and though most if it's in J I just don't want to do it anymore... it use to be exciting but now... farout...

Does anyone else get sick of it all?

Me too. Found a way to make it exciting again. Start up a new relationship. Do something different. Gotta say the showers on the EK 388s are big enough for 2 and there is a nice seat in the shower. Likewise the F/J bar on the EK 388 is great. The Thai F lounge in Bkk is fantastic as is the treatment. Nice to know there are still airlines around that understand Service, Service and Service drives where I spend my money.

BTW I have been flying since 1954, +3 million butt in the seat miles and consider planes as just long taxi rides, which in effect they are.

I note your details shows you are a Platinum One? Is that correct?

Not yet mate, but I expect to be since my renewal date is next year and I have over 7k SCs so far. Would be nice to know the benefits of P1 so I can decide which airline program to focus on. Usually spread things around a bit more but wanted to test some theories this year about "unpublished benefits", which I am yet to prove, but knowing some of the staff (by virtue of mass amounts of travel) does help with service.
