Hi All,

I need some advice from the brains trust on this forum.

I, like many on here, have hundreds of thousands of points sitting with velocity. With the current COVID-19 situation and virgins financial position I’m concerned that if the airline was declare bankruptcy points may disappear..

What’s the likelihood of this happening and should I withdraw my points by purchasing gift cards to get some cash value at what I have..?

am I making a mountain out of a mole hill.. or is there a real threat to my velocity points been wiped out..?

Actually just got hold of Laithwaites ex-Velocity Winestore on phone. Very helpful and reassuring.
I apologise to them.
Having to restock wines before sending, even for orders beginning of April! But they reckon no problems, just time and maybe change of vintage year.
Will advise when dispatched from the east and give tracking numbers. Estimated about a month+ from now to appear over in WA including transport.
Cant understand why I didn't get general notification re orders from Velocity will be dispatched. Have correct email.

Today, I received 2 registered post envelopes with a bunch of gift cards. Seemed to be from as early as 6 and 7 April. I can't reconcile, because a lot of my orders are the same and there is no fulfilment advice in the envelopes. I haven't received 4th and 5th April orders yet.

That gives us some hope they are still processing

7 and 10th wine orders. Emailed Laithwaites 2 days ago for Aust Post tracking number. Nothing. Doesn't instil confidence. Should have been dispatched by now. Playing games? Have they been paid.??? Will try to ring them Tuesday.
Sorry Laithwaites. (velocity wine store merchants). I just got onto them by phone on trade number. Very helpful and reassuring. The Velocity wine orders were huge!!!! They ran out of stock and had to re order. Even ran out with orders from early April. So getting more in.
It will be coming. But maybe changes in vintage. year. (thinking ....Great for the small producers in these tough times selling lots of their stock!).
Lathwaites can't understand why I didn't get notice of this via email like people buying goods did.
Estimate that it could start appearing in WA in a months time (including the post/shipping). They will be emailing Tracking numbers (Aust post) when it is on the way. But obviously don't hold your breath on timing. Will come eventually.

It wouldn't reassure me particularly. Can only imagine what the exchange rate of velocity points to cash would be!
For me it can't be any worse than an over priced Chinese made product from a foreign owned company.

The wine store is back up. My orders from 6th, 8th and 20th are all "order ready".
You can't redeem points though.

but i disagree that no one lost anything... for some, it may be nothing as they do travel a lot or not that fussy on the points lost, but for others, it can be something they have been saving for a long time, and could be lost for good

*could be* means they havent lost anything! The fact is points are still there, the now refused panic redemption of points for whatever it was that they dont need is also not losing anything.

To be brutally honest - I am not surprised by this "run" of wines - because they fear what happened to Ansett rewards program could occur again..

Self disclosure - I was too young for Ansett collapse to earn any miles - but I understood what happened, and I could not fathom this situation occuring again 20 years later

I understand that at the moment the points are there still - and if all situations goes well, then no further issue - but in human nature and psychology, what happened with Ansett still hurts deep to them (no matter if they are closely affected at the time) - but they still remember it and would prefer to "run" the points down instead of trusting Virgin or Velocity to pull through - it is just human nature and I can understand them

Two more JB gift cards arrived today. Yay! Ordered on 5/4 from two different accounts. Post marked 20/4.
