Hi All,

I need some advice from the brains trust on this forum.

I, like many on here, have hundreds of thousands of points sitting with velocity. With the current COVID-19 situation and virgins financial position I’m concerned that if the airline was declare bankruptcy points may disappear..

What’s the likelihood of this happening and should I withdraw my points by purchasing gift cards to get some cash value at what I have..?

am I making a mountain out of a mole hill.. or is there a real threat to my velocity points been wiped out..?

I'm in Melbourne. Ordered some gift cards, an iPhone and some airpods on 15 April.

I don't actually use Apple products but was frantically trying to get points out and rather than do 30+ gift card purchases I thought it easier to just buy 1 -2 big ticket items and resell on ebay!

The airpods and iphone arrived on Friday. (I'm in Melbourne). No tracking information or notifications.

No giftcards as yet.

My order coming from Druin Pty Ltd is 'Delayed' according to the Aus Post website. It was due for delivery on the 24th but was revised up to last week and never arrived. It's sitting in Melbourne since the 25th according to the tracking. I'm in Tas, perhaps the particular sorting centre is over loaded as I've had several parcels from different vendors delivered in recent days without too much of a delay.

Receive an email from Harvey Norman, if I return the iPhone 11 pro they can only refund my velocity points. No upgrade directly from them to get the pro max. What do you guys recommend? option 1 or 2?
option 1: try to sell on eBay at a discounted price which means I will loose around $400 after all the fees at the best.
option 2: return the phone and get the points redunded but who knows what will these points worth later on. I could pertencially loosing all of it.
option 3:anyone has a better suggestion?

Why can't you just keep the iphone 11. I wouldn't be asking for my points back, I'd say you are stuck with what you got.

For sure i wouldn't be asking for the points back. IF you got them back, you still can't spend them!

Gumtree so no fees?

I would hang on to the phone as there are no other choices of points redemption at the moment - if not want it - sell on ebay if necessary

Best option. Did you get the phone for the sake of burning the points or did you actually want it? If you're a little patient eBay typically offer promos for free listing and no final value fees. You'll lose a bit either way as you'll never get the RRP but its better than nothing and essentially free cash. Of course the amount of points used to get the phone would be worth far more in reward seats but thats assuming VA continue operating...

screen size too small. I got problems with my eyesight. I found it hard with iPhone X screen size so needed a bigger one. 11 pro is the same size as iPhone X.

thanks will check out the no final value fees past deal. I did want an iPhone 11 Pro max but stupidly ordered 11 pro. I somehow thought the pro is the bigger size and 11 is the normal size. I don't hold on hope that we can still get business reward seat once vigil is back (if it does). I am ok to change the points into some goods. I booked flight in may with these points but that has to be cancelled. So used the points for the phone just before they close off the store. Guess eBay or gumtree is my best chance. With gumtree I worry scams and not a good situation to deal face to face either.

I would keep the phone.

Getting points back is likely to be a worse outcome In the long run - redemption store currently close, likely devaluation of points moving forward with Virgin Australia mark 2.

By the time you get the ebay offer (no final value fees), the new product will be ageing. Gumtree would be unreliable for such a high value item.

Anyone in your family (Or reliable friend) that was looking to buy one? Maybe get them to buy off you or ask them to buy the more expensive one and trade and pay the difference.

Look online (ring Apple) to see what can be done to improve seeing things on the smaller screen, there might be a solution in terms of increasing character size or something. Obviously test on own device before trying on new phone (once it’s used it isn’t new anymore).

Nobody answering at Collinson’s today, still waiting on gift cards ordered 7/4

As an update - GC ordered on 05/04, email on 22/04 advising the redemption was being processed. I finally got my GC today 04/05. I live in Melbourne, so unsure if that really matters? Have not heard back from another 3 that were ordered the following 3 days after, but I guess I'm happy to see that at least we received one.
