Is Qantas Actually Listening?

remember in 2012 the Melbourne Psychologist and his wife who refused to board QF LAX-SYD because they didn't have XL F pajamas? :p

Some special sizes you must pre-order.
I flew TG F recently and when asked for size S for my missus I was told they only keep 1 onboard (someone took it already) and the rest are M or L. I'm pretty sure they also don't keep more then 1 XL.

Re: Is Qantas missing a marketing opportunity?

With all the discussion of QF pajamas, I have started to wonder why QF doesn't offer PJs as part of their on-board duty free (or online) sales catalog? Now this would likely be of interest only to the Y and Y+ cabin occupants, but even so, there are dollars to be gained. The only issue I see is that the for sale items would have to be distinguishable from the "earned" ones. Say use a different color for the printing of the kangaroo. But then perhaps the fabric quality on the J class ones might need to be improved (but then it's been awhile since I've seen QF J long haul)

Come on QF where are your marketing types when you need one? (or are they all dedicated to convincing QF elite QFFers that Jetstar flights are as good as QF )

Happy wandering

Fred

PS I had mixed feelings in my MBA marketing classes.

Re: Is Qantas missing a marketing opportunity?

I think perhaps that Qantas is listening to some things. I have noticed some welcome changes to their troublesome website of late:
1. If you forget to login first (which I do regularly), a pop-up appears that allows you to enter your membership details - and then takes you back to the page that you were on!! None of this having to go in big circles and start your search all over again.
2. The multi-trip planner actually keeps all your destinations now when you change an early one. No more wiping out everything below that level, which means quicker and easier searches.

and finally, my favourite change, which I've only just discovered:

3. If you do a search for Awards flights, where a business class seat is indicated as being available - it actually is!!! None of those tricky "fly the short bit in business and we'll stick you in cattle class for the long haul" options masquerading as a proper business seat. If you click on an award date where only Y is indicated, you still get the short business/long cattle class options, but at least you aren't being fooled into thinking a business seat is available when searching. (I tested a few different flights and dates on this, and it seems to be consistent.)

There's still a lot to be done to make the website more user-friendly, but it appears to me that they are listening.

Now if QF would just return to their Asian hubs and re-introduce QF flights out of Perth to SIN and HKG, I'd be a very happy camper!

When was this?

Just yesterday I was doing some seraches for March and came across plenty of "Your flight from Los Angeles to Sydney will be in economy" type pop-ups ...

Just checked now and they are still there:

Re: Is Qantas missing a marketing opportunity?

Hi Serfty,
While the little "i" options still show up under the business column, they aren't indicated as "business" awards seats on the calendar of available award flights - i.e. previously when you looked on the calendar of availability and saw a "business" award available (grey man), only to click through with some excitement and find the dreaded "i" and not a "real" business seat. Now it just indicates no grey men (business awards) available. If you click on a Y availability though (blue man), the "i" options still come up - presumably giving you a different option.
It used to drive me nuts before, especially when trying to do a multi-stop trip, to get all excited about finding a business award, only to find it really wasn't one and then having to go back through the whole process again to look at different dates.

Thanks for that - the calendar display ... fair enough.

A380 to the USA?

In my experience the A380 is a negative when booking flights (I much prefer the upper deck of B747 or a smaller J that is more personal and less of a barn) and flying to the USA is never an attraction (again my opinion and my travel needs and wishes)

I have never had any of the extras (other than the occasional greeting by name on boarding) in dom Y & have been WP for years. Lucky you!

Seems to me it would be easy and convenient to allow QFF members to include their PJ's size in their profile, like meal and seat preferences.

I think tend to offer drinks

PJs or Amenities are usually at a passenger's request

I was recently travelling in J, and offered "anything I would like" from F. I declined.

A greeting/chat is fine, but I don't agree with the concept of being offered wine/food/whatever from a higher class of service. If you want the 'better' stuff, buy the higher-grade ticket.

I think it looks bad for one passenger to be obviously getting better service than his/her seatmate.

Not true Nick; remember in 2012 the Melbourne Psychologist and his wife who refused to board QF LAX-SYD because they didn't have XL F pajamas? :p

I don't think that was a case of running out, rather not having the xx_xx_XL* size PJ's they wanted..

No Cookies | Herald Sun

* ok i have exaggerated the size somewhat.. but from the reports it was a larger size than the usual L-XL size they carry

Frankly both airlines suck for [operational] upgrades.

Playing devil's advocate, their view might be that unlike many other carriers, they don't suck at their operations and that's why they have to hand out so few op ups :p

I had a flight on BA last year in J. They miscounted the meals and didn't have enough J pasta meals (which I had ordered). They then gave me the F pasta meal.

There are a number of things that they should let QFF members add to their profile that could improve service on board (since they have those tablets with pax details, they would have all that info at hand).

Such as:

* Do you have a preferred drink type to accompany your meal? # #Your preferred drink may not be available on all sectors

* Do you prefer not to be offered alcoholic beverages?

* Do you prefer to be woken for breakfast after an overnight flight? (If you change your mind on a particular flight, please let a crew member know)

* Do you need assistance in reaching the overhead lockers?

So, Qantas, how about collecting information about us that we actually want you to know, and act on?

I don't disagree.

They are both good at getting me from A to B relatively on time.

OT: My last delay on QF was handled perfectly.

A pax felt unwell before departure on a domestic 737 service. Crew administered first aid, and the decision was made to return to the gate. Upon returning to the gate we had a lengthy wait for the ground ambulance during which the crew asked for any med assistance. I volunteered, however a bright-eyed young doctor was aboard who I was more than happy to defer to. Pax's bags were off loaded before ambulance showed up, at which point the pax was offloaded fairly quickly, paperwork completed, and oxygen bottle replaced and we were underway. Pax remained conscious throughout the affair, although was a little disoriented at times. Total delay: approx 1hr.

The CSM was brilliant - remained calm. He was genuinely concerned for the pax's welfare, but also made sure he kept the rest of the [almost full] 737 informed as to what was happening. Other passengers were all well behaved and sat in their seats and kept themselves amused. We were informed we could turn cell phones back on, and when to turn them off again.

Any delay is irritating, but I didn't mind so much as it was unavoidable, and the crew handled it perfectly.

Thumbs up QF :)

I'm sure a 'PJ Preference:None' would have the CSM in a fizz
