Is QF considering Lifetime Platinum?

If QF does add LTP imo it won’t be till at least Feb 19 when CL any airline lounge access has ended.

That amount of flying should earn you rest, not status :)

Seems ironic but I couldn't agree more. :)

That said, there are frequent flyer friends of mine who genuinely enjoy being up in the air, even in Y (well, at least short haul Y). It's a bit baffling to me because even when I fly pointy end, it's mostly a case of, "Ahhh, this is so much nicer than the alternative." ...but frankly, if I didn't need to get from A to B, I wouldn't choose to fly just for the sake of it. Lounge access is another matter, especially with some of the better international lounges!

I am no chance of qualifying LTP (at the assumed earning rate required ). So it’s pretty academic for me. I will be thrilled to achieve LTG.

if they had LTP, once you attained it, it may be 80% going to other airlines
The amount spent getting to LTP would be a good profit for Qantas (mostly)

Lesley Grant and Stephanie Tully explicitly stated that LTP was not on the cards
I feel like they always say those things when they’re not working on it ‘right now’. Like, ‘Changing Platinum members First Lounge access rules is not on the cards right now:eek:

Can't see it happening, but if it does, will be far higher than 28K (too many of us would qualify immediately) and probably restricted to QF earn only and exclude bonus SCs if their systems allow such calculations. I'd be fine with any or all of these restrictions.

While I am definitely in the camp of those that think the ease at which WP status can be achieved through DSCs etc leads to the overcrowded and diminishing amenity of the F international and J domestic lounges (not to mention the sub-par combined lounges like SIN), I doubt that a LTP level would contribute much to it. Like others have posted above, I reckon most who attain such status (assuming it is well in excess of 28K) will still fly in J+ / earn WP status. If not, they will fly infrequently enough so as to not contribute to overcrowding.

LTP would see me direct many flights back to QF while I am in my 'earning' phase. Right now my incentives (P1 and LTG) are very clearly to fly elsewhere once I re-qualify WP. In the distant future I can see LTP benefiting me on the occasional Dom Y flights, but more likely when flying internationally on other OW carriers in J (JL, AY, AA, CX, BA - given QF's minimal international footprint). Reckon I would be a very good deal for QF if they did introduce LTP.

If QF introduced LTP at 28000 SC, being only a couple of hundred SC short, I would most likely use a DSC promotion to get over the line.

However, after that, it would really not make any real difference to me in the medium term. As QF are flying the torture chamber (73H) and charge significantly more on my most travelled routes PER-BNE and PER-SIN, I would still look elsewhere for better and cheaper flights.

Where LTP would be of some assistance would be booking award travel and F lounge access when travelling on an award ticket. This would earn QF no/little additional revenue but would be at additional cost.

The best chance of QF introducing LTP is if VA does it first. However, I cannot see VA introducing lifetime status in the short term.

I hope so kiwi-flyer.

I have seen people here with far higher totals then 38K

Recently 68-70K person was seen on the pages of ÄFF

But what is there about LTP that means it will never happen?. As far as I can see it’s just the Lounge Access. LTG covers the rest.

Points earned, higher in the upgrade queue, more award seats etc.

LTP would be more than just lounge access better than LTG.

On a given flight I’m not sure that the status for upgrade means that much given they are already LTG. Points earned - well, they are pretty much throwing away points these days. I haven’t seen the difference between SG and WP with regards to award availability tbh. Release of seats - not had much luck there either as WP. I just don’t see the cost to Qantas to implement it and it could yield them more passengers on their flights.

Agree lounge access is the more valuable benefit (to me at least) but point is, in answer to your question / comment :),it would not be the only benefit.

Anyway, all hypothetical!

Unless someone thinks that they will actually attain LTP, I do not know why they would want QF to even offer it.

As stated up thread, if LTP was offered at 28k, I would quickly mop up the remaining SC required.

I would then be able to complete (hopefully for the next few decades) with hard earned WP year upon year for the best seats, J/F awards, lounge space etc without flying QF on an even semi regular basis.

Why would someone who is struggling to get their 1200SC every year to retain WP want someone like me swanning in and snapping up requested premium J award space without booking a single QF revenue flight in years...

As a reward for loyalty? If you’ve flown that much then really it’s deserved. I reckon this is the last thing that would deter Qantas from implementation.

Agree.

I'd much rather have some LTPs - that have actually flown a lot with QF - taking the occasional flights as opposed to hundreds of CLs that get better perks and contribute very little to the airline.

A thread I participated in a few years ago discussed an idea for QF to consider whereby LTG's would only require 600SC's per year to re-qualify for WP (or 800SC's to achieve WP status). For those LTG's who wish to remain/obtain WP status, then this scheme would ensure at least some maintenance of loyalty to QF - this would probably be more palatable to QF than implementing a LTP status. LTG status does not carry any benefits for those who maintain WP through 1200 (1100 these days) SC earn - good for retirement though.
