"Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

Yep the pizza last night was rather dry at 8pm in SYD.

I wish people would really be careful with their abbreviations. Let's just say that Hungry Jack's was not the first thought on my mind. ;)

Yep, I'd be all for HJs in some instances. It might certainly be a Mc Feast ;)

Had the chicken laksa in MEL on Friday night - absolutely delicious!

Not many noodles in the bowl, but it was probably the best meal I've ever had in a domestic lounge.
Was tempted to ask for another

I had the same last Monday in SYD. The Laksa was stone cold. My mate and I took one sip and decided to just drink the accompanying wine, instead.

Had the Laksa again on Friday in MEL - *slight* change to the previous menu but that was all...

I have not seen Island Dining in BNE or SYD business lounges in a long time.

I've seen the menus on the long table in SYD opposite the "buffet" quite a few times recently. Not at night though - just the morning. So it still exists there it seems.

Ah... that's what it's about... glad I found this thread.

I've seen the menus on the island bench across from the buffet in SYD pretty regularly on a Friday night the last few months. Just was never quite sure what the go was.

I'm usually there between 6pm and 7pm, so perfect timing it seems. I may have to give it a go this week.

Island dining was available tonight in SYD although not much to get excited about, chicken sandwich with not much of the key ingredient to be found in the actual sandwich!

First experience tonight finally - not sure a cold sandwich in the middle of winter is the best option but great flavours :)

I don't care what season it is, but if it was rare beef with horseradish and caramelised onions then I'll eat that any day, any time! :D

Rookie question:

In the island dining area of this QP, there is an A5 sheet of paper listing the 'meal of the day' on top of each seat.

When you sit and ask for that meal, staff then take that sheet of paper. Apparently, once all the sheets are gone, thats it for the 'meal of the day' and the only hot food remaining is from the bain maries. this was around 130pm Saturday.

1. So if there are no menu sheets on the tables - does this mean there are no meals even if you ask staff?
2. Do staff replenish 'meals of the day' during the evening period/ regularly throughout the arvo? or is this just a lunchtime thing and once its all gone- its all gone for the day.

I would'nt get to excited about it - my first island dining 'experience' had them present me with a 'gourmet' hot dog - i resisted the urge to laugh very loudly out loud.

Now I fill up at The Noodle Bar in The Wing at HK with proper food and try to forget those memories of 'island dining past'

Well I did get a 'lamb pie', and unfortunately I'm not WP so dont have access to Flounge. Still, for the SYD T1 QP, I rather have that meal than bain marie curry/salads

Bit different comparing and INT Lounge to a domestic one. I've had a few good Island dining meals in SYD including a chicken Laksa. I've also had the noodles in HKG and they were nice but i didn't get me all excited either!

Chicken laksa again in the MEL J lounge on Friday. Looked and tasted different to the previous ones, but certainly still nice!
I don't think I've had anything other than that since becoming WP...
