J Seat choice on A380

Re: A380 J seats

I flew 16K on the A380 in June and quite enjoyed it. People moving about didn't worry me and as it's just in front of the wing there is a good view to be had. I'm sure there are much less pleasant seats on the lower deck.

Re: A380 J seats

My favourite seat is 11K. First for service, near lounge. To be honest though there aren't really any bad J seats in 388. Enjoy ;)

Agree! SQ used to block this for me in all reservations (747) but had 11k on the qf 380 and it's quite and near the bar and lounge and not noisy at all.

Food service is first for memory as well

Help me someone - what is FEBO again?

Cheers. Spruce

Re: A380 J seats

Any seat in rows 11, 12 or 13 are great but the middle seats are better as no-one needs to climb over or be climbed over.

+1 agreed, rows 11 - 13 are the best seats in the house.

Front Even Back Odd. AA use it to determine where food service begins in their First cabin .. on even numbered flights, service starts at the front; odd numbered flights it starts at the back.

A380 J seats

I agree. I keep getting allocated 24a because it is an exit row but oh so slow for food service. Better to be at the front.

All in all though , A380 business is fantastic!

Re: A380 J seats

My Parental Units recently did QF11 SYD-LAX in 13J/K and thought it was wonderful, except that the crew locker is directly behind and there was a bit of banging and scraping when items were accessed.

Other than that, they thought it was great. "Blissfully quiet", my father reported. Unlike the man himself...

Re: A380 J seats

I have only flown twice on the A380 - both in 12D - very nice but it was quite late with the whole service thing. I think I might try the other side next time.

Interesting comments re "Emerald City" here - I mentioned that to one of my colleagues and they claimed that Emeralds avoided that area of the aircraft as it often had screaming children...

A380 J seats

Well I have to say I was really impressed with the flight, except perhaps it wasn't long enough!!! Only cos I wanted to enjoy it more. So quiet and staff on the flight were exceptional. Friendly and helpful.

Can't wait til I can do it again!!!

On my last A380 the reverse was true 11-13 on QF 10 full from LHR to SIN no babies but plenty in section behind me. From SIN -MEL had seats 11J and K all to myself :) Emerald City relatively quiet but rows 16-24 full and same babies travelling to MEL. This was my 5th trip and families have nearly always been in 16-24 on these flights. BTW I don't mind babies!

Re: A380 J seats

We flew from London - Singapore in 16 A & B on QFF A380. Row 16 are the bassinet seats and we have a 6 month old baby so there wasn't much choice. There were quite a few children in this section.

Actually found these seats to be quite annoying due to the activity and talking in the galley, combined with the traffic to the toilet. A wasn't as bad, in the aisle seat it really did get frustrating - it was pretty well impossible to sleep. It also meant the baby in bassinet was getting bumped and this made it harder for her to sleep.

I did think that the other row 16 seats looked quieter as there wasn't as much galley action on that side. But I'd recommend either further forward or further back if you don't need a bulkhead.

Much as I loved the A380 in other ways, if we do this again in J with a baby I'll fly the QF 747. The bassinets are on the bulkhead behind the small galley that services F passengers and would be a lot quieter. I'd choose the A 380 for Y+ with a baby though.

QF I assum will not have babies / children in 11 - 13 rows due to F below.

There always seems to be plenty of WP tags in 11-13 whenever I am there. Unless of course they are borrowing someone's bags ;)

The first time I came across the term "Emerald City" it was said by a Qantas FA on a A388 to LAX earlier this year.

Re: A380 J seats

"Emerald City" is where it's at IMHO!

Any seat in rows 11, 12 or 13 are great but the middle seats are better as no-one needs to climb over or be climbed over.

In any case - enjoy!

Totally agree! had 12E from SYD-LAX last year - no-one to climb over, and no-one to climb over me. Plus only 18 seats in the front cabin, so very quiet. I probably wouldn't sit in 11E, F, J or K though - if there are people in the lounge talking it can get a bit annoying

Good Stuff; so much for 52J!

Have another look. E/F is telling me (as a WP) 13E/F are available currently - try out "Emerald City" if you can. :p

Note that row 16 now only has single seats available: A/F/J

The only other pairs available now are 18/22 E/F

Ah was just able to book 11F as Emerald City just got opened up to us poor Gold F/F's
Does anyone have a preference for row 13 over 11??

Just missed out on an award 2xF LAX-SYD flights for 7/3/2012 .... did someone from AFF beat me to it? ;)

So I had to settle for 2xJ seats, booked in 11A and B, but having second thoughts about that curtain and possible light coming from the galley .... any comments regarding this?

Ps. QF pre-allocated 12A/B just after booking (any idea why it was 12?)

I've only been in row 13 and 19or23, I can't remember now :(

There is a soft lighting ( blue/purple??) at the bar in front of 11A/B, it did not disturb me. Found that spot v.convenient for a Champers top-up. Even better if they have left some Taittinger there for the F passengers

I have been allocated 20K, my preference is a window seat. Seatguru indicates that the storage compartment next to the window can't be used. I wanted to check if this is correct, and if so, is it much of a draw back? Should I try to get another seat allocation?

Prefer 11K personally, but certainly 11/12/13 are all good and can exit downstairs.

Don't like facing crew.

Here I would take row 13

Was this a points UG/FASA or classic?

Row 11 fine. Prefer the K side, less traffic

I have a 'supplementary question' for the house (forum) - hope that's ok.

Mrs'tork and I are taking toddler'tork J on QF31 to SIN (stay a few days) then on to LHR. Haven't bought toddler'tork a seat (will be 12 months old, won't sleep alone anyway).

Now, toddler'tork is a good natured little girl, but she's still only 12 months old = occasional crying, messy eating etc. I phoned QF and asked what seats would be best to be able to get up to carry her around and for us to cause the least disturbance to other J passengers. Was told 25J/K.

Leaving aside the question of whether babies/toddlers should be in J anyway (if this trip goes pear-shaped, I'll fly Y for the next 4 years and buy extra seats with the difference), is this reasonable? Has anyone got any suggestions? Other than to warn AFF forum members not to be in 24J/K on those particular flights?

Cheers,
'tork
