J Seat choice on A380

re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

Was on an A380 in 25J last month.
I don't recall 24AB or JK having less room than a standard seat. Just not a whole lot more room, exit row or not. Overhead luggage storage was perhaps a little less - the guy in front of me and I shared a bin.
A word of warning about the 12 seat "mini cabin" of rows 24 and 25. It's a long way through to row 16 for the toilet. And you get served dinner last, meaning you get to skybed-sleep last. That was quite annoying about being in row 25. I preferred my sector in 16A, which was quieter too, for some reason.

re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

Middle seats are best, particularly if you're traveling alone, so you don't have to step over anyone.

I've seen this sort of comment here a few times - and each time I am wondering what people mean. I have travelled in the window seats of 380-J and even when the aisle person has his/her seat fully flat had NO probelms stepping AROUND their feet, not OVER them, there's plenty of room.

Now, I am only 181cm, but more Friay Tuck-ish that thin, and if I didn't have to 'step over' the person, sure as hell others would find it even easier (even when waking up from a sound sleep, or maybe a few too many glasses of bubbly later)!

Whilst I agree there is more room than on 747 to get around, I still personally don't like having someone I don't know walk in front of me every time they want to get up (as I prefer an aisle). So if I'm by myself, I'd rather the middle - I'm not looking out the window anyway, so I may as well have a seat that no-one walks in front of me.

OK - understand your viewpoint - my preference with Qantas is listed as a window seat, as I enjoy the chance of some light etc.

re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

This article on AusBT gives some idea on seats: The best seats in Business Class on Qantas' Airbus A380 - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

And this is Qantas' seat map, which I'd take to be fairly accurate with dimensions: http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/A380-14F72J32PY332Y.pdf

If people use the exit row to switch sides of the plane, I can understand from the PDF why there might feel like less room, as there doesn't look to be that much more already. The exit doors also look to have sizeable protrusions.

re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

Having flown in seat 24 A/B on several occasions I can confirm the following:

Both seats have more room in front of them than any other J Class seat due to the Exit doors

24 A & K have the door hinge, whatsamgooger thing sticking out, however it is far enough in front not to be an issue

You dont have immediate access to a side storage area, however the one level with the seat can still be used if required

Well there's the complete Answer! Well done! file51

As far as some of the other answers go.

Yes, there is some stepping over to be done of the B/J seats if they are fully reclined. Not difficult but the handle needs to be used, especially if you seat mate is not a close friend. :p

Some of the row 11/16 seats, while still 80" do have insets forward, so stepping over may be a little more difficult for some.

For a couple, generally the Window seats are better due to the side storage. If solo, then the middle.

Finally, you might like to avoid pre-allocating 11K as this has a power supply for medical equipment (such as a CPAP) and you may be "asked" to move, even on boarding.:-|

Re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

Row 24 is just so far back though. I have only flown the A380 a couple of times and have been in 12E both times...

Re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

Got 18A allocated but as soon as I am WP will be mooving myself to Emerald city :D

Re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

Our points upgrade came through a few days ago SYD-SIN and because upgrades come through like hours before the flight, most of the seats were already pre-allocated. As WPs we were assigned seats 12x and 13x (I assume those seats were vacated when those WPs got upgraded to F) ... but because we wanted adjacent seats, we had to settle for seats 24A and B.

Having flown in 13B, 19B and now 24B there are pro's and con's for all of those seats.

13B in Emerald City is nice, upfront where meals gets served first. Its more of a private mini cabin, but not as mini as Rows 24/25. Also closer to the J onboard lounge.

19B which is smack bang in the middle of everything, just a standard J seat IMO. Meals gets served halfway but in the middle of the larger of three cabins felt it wasn't as private.

24B right at the back, exit row is nice, and felt extremely open, spacious and airy. Downside is the meals were served last and we waited forever, well it felt that way. It was far away from the bathroom and when meal service is in progress the trolleys can block both aisle access. I was directed by a purser to just use the Y+ toilet and I felt the stares from the Y+ folks.

Personally 11-13 is probably has the most pro's ..... and then I would probably go for row 24 next as its more private and felt much more spacious, then anything else in the main J cabin.

I never knew that !
I have sat in 11K several times always pre-allocating it myself. Would love them to ask me to move downstairs next time ;)

Re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

It isn't me on the A380 pushing you guys out of CPAP seat 11K but thanks for the tip!QF mucked up the A380 CPAP power supply so I carry 2 lithium battery packs.

Be careful what you wish for...........It might not end up being Row 1-5!

Re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

Traveling solo MEL LAX I have chosen 19E so I'm not too close to the galley but not too far either, and while I love windows, the centre row is really handy. Hopefully will have enough points to try an upgrade to F although I doubt it makes that much difference..

Re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

If you are sitting in 11k and someone comes up to you and says "move over princess" then that would be me!

Re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

Sorry to bump an old thread.

Only ever travelled in 12E before when in emerald city.

For those that have travelled in 11x before - would you choose row 11 or 12?

thanks in advance guys

Love 11K.
Window storage, first for meal. Easy hop to lounge area.
Can be a little noisy, but I would take it over row 12 every time.

Having not flown in either, but am reliably informed by a CL who has also been in the "top 20" QFF (per letter form QF) that his preference is:

11 E/F
12 E/F
13 E/F
11 B or J
12 b or J
13 b or J
then a/k (windows) 11-13

That's if you value getting in/out freely, and the A side first purely due to th lounge on the J/K side (although rarely is this an issue). Clearly if you're desperate for a view out the window, then you're selection will differ.

And of course, he tends to score quite a few op-ups so it becomes academic....

YMMV.

Re: Business class seats on Qantas A380

cheers guys,

I was leaning towards 11 :)
